Chapter 9
Miss Liberty streaked across the Atlantic, leaving a long wake of pale green bio-mutant energy behind her. Allison was a power-plant of the stuff. It infused every cell in her body fueling her incredible powers. She was one of the only new humans where you could see the bio-energy in its raw form. Whenever she flew, or discharged it as an energy beam to hit a target at range, you could see it, white at the core, diffusing out to darker and darker green at the edge, and bands of the same colors wrapped in around the core like ivy.
When flying at top speed like this, or using her energy beams, Allison had to tap into the reserves of energy stored within her. If this went on for an extended period of time she would start to feel somewhat weaker until her body replenished the energy.
Miss Liberty had been in Germany helping to clean up after a train wreck, there was a bridge out, and a deep gorge. She had lifted up the train cars, which had survivors in them and flew them to local trauma centers. When she lifted something very heavy like a train if you looked close there was a faint field of bio-mutant energy that helped maintain the structural integrity of what she was lifting, and balanced the load in her hand.
After rescuing as many people and fallen train cars that she could, she then began assisting in clearing the fallen bridge debris which were clogging and polluting the river below. She smiled as she worked, someone had started playing her newest album Texas Nights over a PA system. She even sang along some, and people cheered as she worked. Germans loved country music, who knew?
Miss Liberty's uniform today was close fitting blue beta-cloth, with a solid white chevron bordered in red wide at the shoulders angling down to a point at her waist. There was a single gold star that was emblazoned on the white chevron. As always she had the M-Tech golden bracers on her wrists, and a golden belt at her waist. On her feet were her favorite leather cowboy boots, a gift from the State of Texas when she was made their “Official State Hero.” The M-Tech boys had developed some kind of coating for them that helped them survive whatever extreme environment that Miss Liberty ended up in. They were custom fit for her, amazingly comfortable, indestructible, waterproof, never got dirty and went great with almost everything in her wardrobe, a girl could not ask for more.
Goldstar had contacted her only a few minutes ago that Jenny was hurt and Allison shot herself like a cannon to the west, shaking several houses as her sonic boom pressure wave reached the valley floor. Miss Liberty, even pushing herself had never been able to hit the 1000 mph mark, her top speed at an altitude of 10,000 feet was about 880 mph. Which at the moment was not nearly fast enough for her. Goldstar in his energy form could fly anywhere in the world in minutes, if only he could come give her a ride...
As she flew west the sky brightened back into daytime and she started to hear the sounds from the deep sea fishing boats a few hundred miles off the east coast of America. Goldstar kept her informed of Jenny's condition and her heart sank. Like her husband, a situation like this, her daughter injured and out of reach, was her nightmare.
Just after Allison got to the skies above her homeland, she heard a man speaking through her private earpiece communicator. “Miss Liberty, this is D-Day. I have one of my remote armor units with your daughter and I have been apprised of the situation. I believe I have a way to help if you...” Allison spoke urgently, the sound of her voice modulated through her jawbone to the communicator. “Get your stuff and get on the roof of your office Paul, I will fly-by and get you. “...you got it Allison”.
That was out of the way, but she trusted Paul, and if he said he could help, he meant it. Allison poured on a much speed as she could, the bio-mutant energy jet propelling her flared hot as it exploded out of her body. If not for M-Tech's beta cloth, her clothing would have long since burned away. Allison felt noticeably weaker, and the feedback system in her gold M-Tech bracers kicked in, which helped slow the loss of her energy reserves. The bracers were a kind of capacitor, making her bio-energy consumption more efficient, and took some of the strain from her system so it could begin slowly replenishing itself. At the rate she was burning through it, she would overcome the bracers limit, but they would still keep her going longer.
Ashton thundered into the Appalachians until she got over Shay's Mountain, moving at top speed she dove down and grabbed Paul's master D-Day suit off the roof. Even with the armor's acceleration compensator, going 0-800 miles an hour in the fraction of a second would have normally destroyed the unit and killed Paul inside it from the massive g-forces, however the same faint field of bio-mutant energy that maintained the structural integrity and balanced out the loads Miss Liberty lifted, also largely eliminated damage sustained by a sudden change in velocity, acceleration or deceleration. All the people who fell from a great height that Allison caught over the years have been most appreciative of this feature. Of course, when Miss Liberty needed to hit something real hard, which she often did, the field did not activate, indicating at least some kind sub-conscious control of it.

Back at the MSCC, Jenny had figured out a way to press her force-field against her injured side which had all but stopped the bleeding out, buying her some time. It was getting hard to breathe, with her punctured lung and the blood pooling in her abdominal and chest cavities. Jenny was very pale, and was starting to feel quite sleepy. If she passed out, her control of her force-field would stop, and she would likely start bleeding out again... blood she could not afford to lose.
Marty Goldstar was at his daughters side, offering encouragement, holding her as best he could. Jenny's field prevented most energy from passing through it as well, so even in his energy form, which consisted of more then just visible light, he could not reach through to touch her.
Jenny as laughing and wincing at the same time at her dad. “Dr. Goldberg, really?” she coughed. Marty said “That's not the half of it Sparkle, there is a doctor downstairs named Alice Cooper...” Marty laughed “A woman named Alice Cooper, can you imagine?” he smiled down at his little girl. “Who's Alice Cooper dad?” Jenny asked, giving her father 'the look'. Goldstar looked back at his daughter like she was from the moon “how can you not know...” he sighed “Ah.. never mind” he said.
Miss Liberty and D-Day arrived at the heliport on top of the hospital. Paul jumped out of his cockpit and started growing, reaching full size before he hit the ground. He popped open the storage space in the D-Day unit and pulled out a metallic briefcase. Allison waited impatiently. “OK I'm ready Ally”. The two rushed down into the MSCC to Jenny's room. Allison went over to her daughter, gently placing her arms around her energy field “Oh, baby... don't worry. I am here, I am not going to let anything else happen to you”. Jenny smiled at her mother best she could “I am going to be fine, no need to worry, mom” she winked. Jenny had no doubt.
D-Day unpacked his case and spoke to Dr. Goldberg “These are some medical nano-bots I have been working on. Your surgeon can control them here” Paul pointed to a computer in the case's lid, with an attached special keypad. “He will get visual and other information displayed here, with this knob you can control the transmission frequency until you find one that will let you talk to the bots on the other side of her field”. Goldberg nodded “I will be doing the surgery myself, I will get my team ready”. “Right then, now for the tricky bit”. Paul took the controls and had all the nano-bots crawl onto him, then he shrunk down to 6” tall, the bots covering more and more of him as he shrunk, until he was literally covered with them. With a small bio-energy field similar in many ways to Miss Liberty's Paul could shrink a limited amount of mass along with his body, but in this case it did not matter, the bots were already tiny. “I don't have my jet-pack on Allison, pick me up and hold me over towards your daughter”. Allison nodded and did so. Jenny smiled at the little man “Hiya Paul”. “Hey kid” he replied. “Jenny, I need you to get up enough juice for one more port, you have to get hold of me and pull me in there with you”. Jenny replied “what, no dinner, no movie, you just want me to let you in here?” Paul smirked. Jenny coughed.
Jenny closed her eyes and concentrated, what was once effortless, now felt almost impossible. She cried out in pain; coughing up a jet of blood, there was a flash, and suddenly Paul was inside her force-field. The first man to ever touch her in any way. Jenny smiled, then her eyes rolled back as she slipped into unconsciousness.
