Blindsided: Book 2 of the Bound Trilogy

Chapter 13

~Unknown POV~

Hunters were everywhere.

I could see them with their guns, filled with silver, on their shoulders. I could see them digging through packs and pulling out grenades--more than likely tear gas.

They had come prepared.

There were also trucks with cages waiting several hundred yards behind them. My blood boiled at the thought of any werewolf being thrown in those horrifying contraptions. Once we take care of these bastards I will personally make sure each and every one of those things is destroyed.

‘Everyone remember what they are supposed to do?’ I sent to my pack waiting silently in the tree line.

A chorus of ‘yes, sir’ answered me through the link.

‘All right, lets get these bastards.’

Howling, we came running out of the forest like an avalanche. White and silver fur running head on into the surprised forces of the Hunters.

They weren’t stunned for long and rallied enough to start shooting towards us. It wasn’t enough though. By the time they fired the first shot we were on them.

‘Don’t let any of them get away!’ I instructed my pack mates. I was not going to let one of these sick fucks slip from my grasp. All of them were going to pay for what they do to our kind.

In the back of my mind, I did know that one of these men was the informant for the Council. I don’t know who it is, but if he dies along with these other scum bags, I won’t complain.

Screams of the dying and the scent of blood filled the air as my pack, and the pack we were sent to protect, ripped through the Hunters.

I barely noticed as I used my teeth and claws to disable and kill those trying to attack me. It was automatic. Unthinking. Unfeeling. Disable, kill, move on to the next, repeat. I will perform the pattern over and over until there is no one left to fight.

After tearing the Hunter beneath me apart, I noticed a man trying to sneak through the chaos towards the pack house. He was tall, well muscled, with blonde hair in a crew cut. He was dressed all in black and was intent on getting inside. He paid little to no heed to the fight taking place around him.

Maneuvering through the fray, I kept my eyes on him, waiting to see what he was up to.

The man in black was so intent on his mission, that he failed to notice me sneaking up behind him. He made it to the back terrace doors and was reaching for the handle when I let out a warning growl.

He froze with his hand midway to the door knob. I growled again and he slowly turned to face me. I noticed he had something in his hand, but was distracted by the fact that I knew who he was.

It was the bastard my mate cheated on me with. A rage filled my being to the point I was surprised I didn’t glow with hate radiating from my body. My hackles rose and I was about to pounce and rip his throat out when someone made the mistake of shooting at me.

I turned in the direction of the shooter only to see one of the other pack’s members tear into him. I turned back to the man who ruined my life, only to see he was gone.

Jerking my head in every direction, I tried to spy where he had run off to, but it was useless. He was gone.

Another growl ripped through me. I needed to get rid of this anger. I needed to kill something. Looking back towards the fight, I noticed it was already over.

With no other outlet for my explosive emotions, I howled to the waning moon and took off into the trees. If I couldn’t kill and destroy, then I would run. I would run until I couldn’t take another step.

‘Alexander, where are you going?! The Alpha is going to want to meet you!’ My best friend, and second in command, yelled at me.

‘I’ll be back. Take care of it.’

There was no way I could deal with anything other than trying to get rid of the pent up aggression inside of me, so I ran.

~Evan’s POV~

The fight with the Hunters was brutal. We had been outnumbered until the pack we were sent to warn came to our aid.

As second in command of the White Wolf pack, I tried to keep an eye on our Alpha and fight the Hunters at the same time.

Alexander tore through the sick bastards like they were nothing more than an annoying fly buzzing around his head. It was scary to see him this way. No emotion, no fear, nothing.

I watched as he stopped and stared towards the pack house. There were too many wolves and men fighting in front of me to see what had his attention, but he ripped and clawed his way towards the back of the house, intent upon a mission.

Suddenly the fight was over and our appointed Alpha was running towards the woods.

When I mind linked him to see what was going on and to let him know the Alpha of this pack wanted to see him, he told me to take care of it. No explanations, just ‘take care of it.’

Sighing, I made my way towards a pile of clothes, a fore-thinking soul, left by the back door. Shifting I slipped on a pair of shorts that were too big for me. Luckily there were draw strings in the front so I was able to keep them from falling around my ankles.

Making my way into the house with the rest of my pack mates and the other pack, I noticed a couple reuniting in the kitchen. I was glad they were able to be together. It always warmed my heart to see mates together.

Seeing couples, always reminded me of how my parents are together. I hoped to find my mate someday, but until then I’ll just enjoy my bachelorhood and show the ladies a good time.

Leaving the couple to their happy reunion, I made my way further into the house in search of the Alpha. We needed to go over what happened during the fight, and I needed to let him know what the Council plans on doing about it.

Not having any luck on my own, I stopped a young man--about 15--and asked him where I could find his Alpha. Pointing me in the direction of a hallway and telling me to take the first door on the left, I thanked him and headed to get this over with.

I just wanted a hot shower, cool bed, and maybe a pretty little thing to help warm it back up.

With that in mind, I opened the first door on the left and immediately wished I hadn’t. Why couldn’t Alexander have taken care of this? I thought with a groan.

There in the office, a man was pacing back and forth while a woman tried to calm him down. There was another couple sitting off to the side, shooting pensive glances between the pacing man and someone sitting in front of his desk. The tension in the air was palpable and I didn’t want to be here.

No one noticed that I was standing there awkwardly in the doorway so I cleared my throat to get their attention. The room stilled and several pairs of eyes shot in my direction. A growl reverberated through the room as the man that had been pacing glared in my direction.

“Who are you and why are you in my home?” he directed towards me.

Not wanting to upset him even more, I bowed my head to show I was no threat and said, “My name is Evan, Alpha. I am the acting Beta of the White Wolves. I was sent here by the Council, along with some of my pack, to warn you of an attack. We arrived just as the attack started and we helped get rid of the Hunters.”

I kept my head lowered, waiting for the Alpha to acknowledge my statement. The silence stretched on and was becoming uncomfortable. I risked a glance around the room and noticed everyone was stock still and staring between the man in the chair before the Alpha and the woman sitting with her mate on the couch.

The woman herself was staring in my direction and I had to do a double take. She looked just like the pictures of Alexander’s mother--at least the ones that survived. But she couldn’t be his mother. She looked no older than nineteen and Lex’s mother died during the attack where he lost his sisters and father.

“Luna?” I was so shocked by her appearance, that I didn’t even realize I had whispered the word until she graced me with a small smile.

She never spoke or corrected my assumption, and I was becoming thoroughly confused. What was going on?

The Alpha broke the silence with a gusty sigh. I looked towards him as he ran a hand over his face in a tired gesture. It was then that I noticed how old he looked with the strain etching lines in his wide face. He slumped into the chair behind his desk and his mate placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“Well, it seems things just got interesting,” he mumbled.

“I’m sorry sir?” I questioned. What in the world was going on here?

Instead of answering, he asked, “Where is your Alpha young man?”

I had to force myself not to fidget under his unyielding stare, “I’m sorry sir, but my Alpha went for a run after the fight. I do not know when or if he will be back.”

The Alpha sighed again, as he heard the apology in my voice.

“Well,” he sighed, “we’ll have to deal with him later.” He glanced around the room before looking back towards me. “Why don’t you take a seat. I’m Alpha Matt, this is my wife Stacy, and over on the couch is Alpha Devin and his mate Leah.” I sent a respectful nod in their direction and sent a curious glance towards the man sitting across from Alpha Matt. He must have seen my glance as he said, “Oh, and this is supposedly the one that contacted the Council about a supposed attack.”

Immediately my guard came up. The only way to know for sure if he is the spy for the Council is to have a Council member here themselves. I studied the man carefully. He had blonde hair cut in a crewcut, and piercing blue eyes. His all black clothing looked to be designed to hide any number of weapons and would help with concealing him in the dark.

I was about to suggest they call one of the Council members when the door behind me opened up.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but there is a man here who says he is the Alpha of the White Wolves and wants to talk to you father.”

I turned to see the young man I had asked directions from earlier. Behind him, I could see the silhouette of my acting Alpha. One-second he was there and the next he had the supposed spy against the wall by his neck.

“You...” growled Alexander.

~Alexander’s POV~

My run did nothing to lessen the anger flowing though my veins. The betrayal and hatred I felt for my mate was the same now as it was when it first happened. How could it be that the man who ruined my life was here? Why was he working with the Hunters? And where was my mate if he was here?

Too many question ran through my head to make the run effective. Deeming the endeavor useless, I headed back towards the pack house. I would talk to the Alpha and see if there was anything I could do to help further. After that, I would go back to the Council and formally request they take away my Alpha-ship.

There was no way I could lead a pack--or keep them happy and safe--when I couldn’t even keep my mate happy with me.

The shadow of the hotel-sized pack house loomed before me. I shifted at the back door and threw on some clothes that were lying on the ground. The shirt was a little snug for my taste but the shorts fit all right.

As I entered into an oversized kitchen, I noticed how quiet and empty the building felt. Everyone must be resting after the earlier ordeal. Thinking I would hunt for the Alpha myself, I made my way through the darkened house.

A shadow moved in front of me.

“Excuse me!” I called out, “Could you tell me where I could find the Alpha? I need to speak with him.”

Upon reaching the silhouette, I realized it was a young man with shaggy blonde hair, and tired blue eyes.

“Who are you and why do you want to speak with the Alpha?” he questioned in a belligerent tone.

No one was supposed to speak to me that way, but then again, this young man did not know who--or what--I was.

“I am the Alpha of the White Wolves, and I need to speak to the Alpha about the attack that just took place.”

The young man’s eyes widened and he gestured for me to follow him. I looked around and noticed we were moving through a large sitting room and towards a hallway.

He opened a door on the left.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but there is a man here who says he is the Alpha of the White Wolves and wants to talk to you father.”

Wait, did he say father?

Before anyone could answer, I cast a quick glance around the room and saw my Beta sitting before the Alpha, along with another man. My eyes moved over him and then snapped back.

Him...

I rushed into the room and had the culprit by the throat. “You...” I growled.

What was this sick bastard doing in this house? I was going to rip his heart out and feed it to him. I was going to make him pay for all the suffering he has caused me by losing my mate. This thing was going to die.

“Alpha!”

The word penetrated the red hazing my mind. “You need to put him down until we get a Council member to verify who he his.”

Still holding the man by the throat, I looked over my shoulder at Evan. “I already know who he is.” I bit out. “He is the man that ruined my life and who I caught trying to sneak into this house tonight.” I sent my hate filled glare towards the man slowly turning blue in my fist. “He is the bastard I am going to kill.”

Suddenly, he was ripped from my hands and was across the room in a gasping heap. In his place was a small woman, no more than five-one. She had short blonde hair and luminous golden eyes with a scar marring her perfection running down her left eye.

I was stunned. No one had ever dared to interfere with my judgement before. But what really knocked my world off kilter, was how much she looked like my mother. I wanted to reach out to her to see if she was real.

I couldn’t move though. I was shocked and frozen in place. The edge of my vision faded from red to grey. My world was spinning, and there was nothing I could do about it.

“Mom...” I whispered before my world disappeared.
