Blinding Light (BLS Book 1)

Chapter BLS 1: {47} ~ PART 2

Mila

“I choose life,” I say, but refuse to take his hand. He hides his emotions again because again, I can see nothing through his ocean blue eyes.

“Come on,” he urges, gesturing towards the exit. I follow him, and put one hand up at his back, ready to blast in case he decides to do something. He sees my gesture and raises both hands as he walks toward another corridor.

I can only see white—each room with a different person that participated in my Project. Each heavy step just inclines my anxiety. A woman opens a door not too far towards my right. She gasps as she sees me. Her brown eyes darted toward Asher then at me. Her eyes are full of fear and hatred.

Hatred?

You know nothing. They will never know how I’ve felt. She can’t judge me by not even knowing me. They will never understand what it means to be powerful—to be in control.

I glower at her and she backs away, but I still blast her back with my power. She flies back into the room, and I pull at the door, it shuts with a slam and a crack forms in the middle of it.

Asher widens his eyes.

“Walk,” I command and he obeys, and he says nothing. He continues to walk with his hands above his head. Then, I hear a voice over the halls.

“Everyone, stay inside your rooms. The host is now active as a difficult subject. Please stay away from any contact at all. We are doing our best right now to locate her. Do not worry. We will bring her down.”

Bring me down? I just want to leave, I don’t want anything to do with these people.

I grit my teeth, my anger finding itself through again. They made me kill my sister. They took my family—took my mother and a brother I never knew I had. They took everything from me. I’m suddenly aware that I’m shaking violently. My hands are balled into fists. So much rage that makes my blood boil makes my toes curl.

“Destroy them.”

The voice suddenly says. His voice is also full of anger.

“They can only offer meaningless promises. Destroy them all. Let them burn in hell. Avenge me.”

“Gladly,” I say, and I see red once more. My fury controls all my movements. I feel my powers awakening. Life manipulation, Raven called it.

Raven…

You will pay for what you’ve done.

For you, my dear sister. I will get your revenge.

With one swift motion, all the doors blast into splintering pieces. Shrieks and screams fill the hallways and echo down. The floor beneath me rumbles, and I feel my power rising. It’s not what I expected in that dark room. Instead of light and gentle like before, it’s now dangerous and destructive. I see redness clouding my vision, threatening to take over—and I welcome it.

Every scream fuels my bloodthirst. I tear through every living thing, leaving only traces of life left before moving on to the next. Then I see Nolan, rushing out of the hall, trying to get people to safety. The hallways are filled with blood and bodies.

I grit my teeth and let my speed get myself to him in a second.

“Mila, please. Punish anybody but them. They are innocent!”

His plead doesn’t go through to me, and I grab him by the collar and hoist him onto the wall, slamming his head against it. He winces but makes no sound. A red splotch remains on the white wall when I drop him on the floor.

“Yes, I will punish you instead.” I feel the power surge through my veins, fueling me with the energy I need.

With the ability to give life, I can also take it away.

“Ever heard of the phrase, oeil pour oeil?” I ask, sneering, “an eye for an eye.”

His eyes widen and gasps for air, clutching his throat. I extend my hand and squeeze, letting my poison course through his veins. I let it burn through some of the minor veins.

He screams and spasms on the ground below me. Far beneath me.

As he should’ve been there from the start.

“How does the poison feel, Nolan?” I say, my hand squeezes tighter, and his screams grow louder. Then I stop. I bend down next to him and whisper, “Was it the same as the poison you used to poison my mother?”

He puts his hand up weakly and points it at me, and a wave of flames hits me square in the chest. Although my balance is strong, it still causes me to fly backwards, but I still land on my feet. He clutches his stomach and manages to stand again. I can see a trail of blood on his lips. He winces, his eyes contorted in pain.

“Did that hurt?” I ask mockingly. I realize that he burnt a hole through my flimsy dress. This is not battle wear. I didn’t care though. All that was swirling through my mind was to destroy this whole facility.

“Torture, it’s such a great way for people to obey you, isn’t it? To break them.” I ask, twirling my hair. “Pain, is fuel for anger, but also, for answers.”

He says nothing. But I can sense the pain he’s feeling. I extend my hand and squeeze again. He gasps but doesn’t lose his footing. Just then, a ring of fire to my height surrounds me, closing in so fast that I barely had time to react before it burns my legs and torso.

I let out a cry of agony, but it was more in frustration.

I put my hand over my wounds and feel them heal immediately. Another wall of fire closes in, and this time, I’m prepared. I spin, using my lightning speed as an advantage, creating a tornado, and sends the fire whirling in his direction, using a force so strong that sends it sailing in Nolan’s direction.

He screams in anguish as his fire burns his skin.

I bet he’s never been burnt by his own fire before.

He tries to distinguish it but fails—clearly hasn’t had enough experience with his abilities. One hand tries to make more flames, but I grab his wrist and pull him close. I can smell the smoke of his burnt skin and his panting breath as he clutches his stomach.

“Let me make this very clear. This isn’t over. I’ll see you around, Votre Altesse.”

I glare straight into his amber eyes. I’m going to make sure the next time I see him, those eyes will be pleading for death.

I drop his wrist, disgusted. I can see the light coming from the hallways’ end, and I dash out, breaking through the walls. The adrenaline is already fading away. I rush out onto a grass field.

I breathe the air in, it’s not as fresh as what I’m used to, but it’s better than being stuck in a fictional world, stuck inside my own mind. I look up at the sky and tears sting my eyes.

I have begun a war, Raven. I will avenge you—I promise. I look forward, looking into the future of possibilities.

And I will never be under someone else’s control. Never again. I will build an army, and I’m coming for you.

Even as my heart is finally calming down from all the bloodshed, I can feel those feelings dying down slightly.

I’m free…

So why do I still feel trapped?
