Chapter BLS 1: {10}
Nolan
I can’t believe he did that. That idiot!
I storm out of the room, footsteps echoing down the halls. The alarm blares in my ear, and I yell at the camera.
“Shut it off!”
The alarm goes off immediately. I sigh, frustrated, my anger seeping through. I find Asher in his room humming to himself, that shit-head.
“Hey!”
He looks up, then smirks at me.
“Dude, ever heard of knocking?” He asks, rolling his eyes sarcastically. If I didn’t know him personally, I would totally punch that smug look off his face. And it was not out of brotherly annoyance, since we are not in the slightest bit related.
“What the hell was all that about? Why would you show her that?” I try to push down all my anger and remain calm. But it’s impossible to do that at such a time like this. He will be the reason the APT doesn’t work because of his shitload of crap, ruining everything, like always.
“What are you talking about?” I stare at him; he literally just dumped oil onto this fire right here—directly.
“Are you kidding me?! You hacked into his telepathic barrier and revealed the brother! I know you were in on this, Moore.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Nolan,” he says, his eyes seem innocent, for the most part.
“Then who the hell did it? Use your ability!” I shout in his face, my rage inclining.
“My ability don’t work like that, you moron,” he rolls his eyes.
“You better find out who the fuck did this then! You don’t know what goes on inside of her mind. I know you’re all Telepathic and all that. In the end, it’s a load of crap, and you know it.”
And I know it too.
He only shrugs. I take a deep breath in and lean against the wall, crossing my arms.
“We are doing this for our—”
“Yeah, yeah, I know; we’re doing this to protect our people, at the cost of truly everything,” he waves a dismissive hand in my direction and digs through his clothes. I scoff,
“You better be careful, Moore. She must remain in the state that she’s in. What if our parents find out?! Or worse, what if the Project—” I drop my eyes, thinking of the consequences. Of my parent. Of how disappointed he’d be.
“Then all hell breaks loose—and besides, I’ll take the blame, as usual.” He opens his drawer, paying no attention to me. “Don’t worry, Nolan—you will remain the pride of the family, as you always have been.”
I sometimes feel so bad for him. His mom can be a beast when it comes to surviving. His whole life was all about surviving—and the ability to survive and bring a future in this godforsaken world. And I think he might’ve caught a connection with the host, which makes my life so much more complicated.
And even as he says these words, I still worry. He better be right, for all our sakes.
