Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“It’s fine. Thank you for taking me back, and goodbye. Vanessa sincerely expressed her gratitude.
William nodded and said, “Okay. Give me your phone.”
Vanessa was about to open the door and get off the car then. She handed her phone to William.
William keyed his phone number on her phone and said, “This is my number. Call me when you’re done.”
With that, he transferred 40 thousand dollars to Vanessa and clicked on the notification to receive the
Vanessa panicked upon seeing this. “Why did you transfer money to me?”
It was a large sum too.
money,
William returned Vanessa’s phone to her and said, “If you think we are suitable for each other, take this as my engagement gift. If you think we are not suitable for each other, consider it as a loan then. There is no rush for you to repay me. Take care of your family first.”
“There’s no need for this. I’ll transfer it back to you right now,” Vanessa quickly transferred the money.
William’s big hand covered Vanessa’s phone screen.
Vanessa looked up and met his gaze.
William looked at Vanessa and said, “Take care of things at home and take your father to the hospital.
William’s gaze was too sincere, with a natural domineering aura.
Vanessa was anxious to see her father. She said, “Then consider it a loan. I will return it to you.”
“Dad insisted on leaving the hospital as he was afraid he would become a burden to me if we ran out of money. If I showed him my bank balance and told him that I had accumulated this sum from my job, it might be easier to persuade him to go back to the hospital,” she thought.
“Alright, go ahead,” said William.
“Thank you!” Vanessa quickly got off the car, turned back, and took a glance before running into the residential area.
William sat in the car, looking at her back.
His eyes were deep and distant.
In this world, some women were full of calculations and gave up their love for the sake of benefits.
While others shouldered everything for their loved ones.
After a while, a sports car slowly drove over.
A man in a sharp suit got out of the car and ran over with a stack of documents. He opened the car door and said respectfully. “Mr. Hawk, the driver has driven your car here. These are the information on Ms. Sanchez.”
He was at the café when William was on the blind date. After William left with Vanessa, he immediately had someone investigate her.
“Don’t get involved unnecessarily in the future.” William got off the car and walked straight toward the Maybach without taking the documents from his assistant.
He might misjudge things at 22.
At 28 years old, he had the eyes of a hawk.
For him, there is no need to investigate certain people.
Walking up to the Maybach car door, William suddenly turned his head to the assistant and said, “Give me the information!”
His intention was not to investigate Vanessa but to know more about her situation.
“Sure.” The assistant immediately ran over and handed the information to William.
William got into the Maybach and said to the driver in the front seat, “To the company.”
The car started and headed toward the Hawk Group.
William’s well–defined fingers flipped through Vanessa’s information.
Twenty–four years old, graduated from school three years ago, working as a jewelry designer, and draws a monthly salary of 1.600 dollars with a small commission.
Her younger brother was born deaf and mute, and her father had late–stage liver cancer.
Seeing the words “late–stage liver cancer,” William furrowed his brows slightly.
Chapter 3
He took out his phone and dialed a number.
After a while, the other party finally answered the phone. “Bro, it’s 3 a.m. here. I need to sleep!”
“How is Abbot?” William asked.
“Ah, he’s still the same.” A sign came from the other end of the line. “But as long as we have hope in our hearts, maybe he will wake up tomorrow,” he tried to offer some comfort.
“Yes, he will wake up!” William said before asking again, “Can you treat late–stage liver cancer?”
“No, I’m a doctor, not God. How could I create a new liver for him?” the other person replied irritably.
“How about helping him to stay alive for a while longer?” William asked again.
Probably not having slept well, the person on the phone complained. “William, why are you asking me this in the middle of the night? Who’s sick? When I went back last month, I checked on your grandfather’s and mother’s health. They’re doing very well.”
“My father–in–law,” William replied.
The other party’s voice suddenly became angry. “Are you crazy? Tracy Yost has already gone abroad, and you still care about her father? Do you think she went abroad for her dreams? She thinks you can’t inherit the Hawk Group. William, wake up. You are insane for love. Wake up!”
“Not her!”
“So, who’s your father–in–law?”
“My blind date’s dad.”
“Blind date? Perfect! Bro, you finally came to your senses. Get married right away and let Tracy Yost go to hell. Haha, I’m coming back as soon as the day breaks. I’m packing my bags right now.”
Vanessa sprinted back home.
This was a pretty old residential area without any lifts servicing the residents. She lived on the sixth floor.
The reason is that the rent on the sixth floor was cheaper compared to the other floors.
Just as she was climbing the stairs, her phone started ringing. She answered the phone as she walked up. “Hello. Who’s this?”
“Humph. Guess who’s this?” A female voice from the other side of the line sounded weird and shady.
“Who is this?” Vanessa frowned slightly.
“Can’t you tell? Well, you are forgetful, aren’t you?” The woman’s voice was still dripping with sarcasm.
“Who’s this? I’m busy, so I got to go now.” Vanessa was a bit annoyed.
She had a lot of things to do and didn’t have time to play the guessing game, especially since the other party seemed to have ill intentions.
“Don’t you want to know why your dad was discharged?” the woman said.
Upon hearing that, Vanessa felt a surge of anger in her heart. “It’s you!”
Her mind became clear suddenly, and she recognized the other person’s voice. She angrily asked, “Elena Jones?”
“Oh, you figured it out?” Elena laughed on the phone. “I was wondering why you didn’t come to my wedding with Jackson. So, your father is very sick and dying.
“You are the one who is about to die, Elena Jones. Even if you die, my father will still live well!” Vanessa’s heart was pounding with anger.
“Go ahead and curse. The more you curse, the happier I’ll be. After all, people who get angry and embarrassed are those who are not doing well. Guess what? How do you think I got your dad out of the hospital? Hahaha, I told him he had liver cancer, and there was no cure. If he continued treatment, it would only be a burden to you, and you will never get ahead in life.”
“Elena Jones!” Vanessa barked out in a threatening manner, and her voice turned cold and calm. “If anything happens to my dad, I’ll make you regret it!”
“I already regret it now. I can’t believe I ever became friends with someone like you.
“But how am I supposed to snag Jackson from you if I don’t become friends with you? Vanessa, you must have seen the news. Jackson and I are officially married.
“He’s moving his career to Lantrie City. If you’re smart, get out of Lantrie City with your sickly dad and mute brother as soon as possible. Otherwise, bear the consequences yourself!”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Chapter 3
“Vanessa, let’s meet up. I’ve something to give to you. Maybe you’ll change your mind after you see it.”
“Tomorrow afternoon at five. Ocean Cafe on South Loop Road. I have something to give you too!” Vanessa said coldly before hanging up the phone.
She had moved from Estain City to Lantric City. If Elena continued to be aggressive, she wouldn’t be polite anymore.
