Blind Date Turned Proposal

Chapter 938

Betrayal.
Josie tensed up. She had already realized that the man inside was Calvin.
Moses quietly explained to her, “After Mr. Barrett received your call, he acted immediately. He rescued Mallory before she could
be captured by Arnold’s men.”
Oh, I understand now.
Mallory took a deep breath, adopting a playful tone, “Who knows? Maybe I grew tired of playing around and longed for a more
exciting life.”
This statement was clearly provocative. Calvin glanced at her. “Say it again.”
“I said maybe over time, I got tired of playing...” Mallory’s words were interrupted as Calvin pointed the knife he had used to peel
the apple directly at her neck. “Think carefully before answering me.”
Mallory looked at him. This man was usually carefree and unconventional, but when he became serious, his presence was
overwhelming.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she faced the knife. “Thank you for saving me. It wasn’t in vain that I didn’t reveal the secrets of
Heaven on Earth during Arnold’s interrogation. Calvin, we broke up two months ago. Why are you asking me these questions?”
she asked with a laugh.
“Yes, it has been two months.” Calvin put the knife away, playing with it in his hand. “I’ve long forgotten.”
“I heard you have a new woman by your side who is quite beautiful.”
“I’ve never had a shortage of women around me.”
“Yes, even when I was with you, women always flocked to you. But you never crossed the line. I appreciate that.”
Her words sounded more like a farewell.
Calvin stopped listening, took a bite of the apple, and stood up. “We’re even now.”
After saying that, he opened the door and left, accidentally bumping into Josie.

Josie looked embarrassed as she stepped aside. “I-I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”
Calvin’s expression darkened. He didn’t pursue it further and walked away. He still appeared unrestrained, but upon closer
inspection, a hint of loneliness lingered.
After seeing him leave, Josie quickly entered the hospital room. She looked quite shocked. “What’s going on? You’ve broken up!”
Mallory had a wound on her forehead, covered with gauze. She played with her fingers. “I cheated on him.”
Josie was stunned before bursting into laughter. “That’s quite amusing, but I don’t believe it.”
Mallory laughed along. “It’s true. Sorry I didn’t tell you immediately.”
Josie didn’t understand why, but she also knew that there were some things she shouldn’t pry into.
“When I called him that day, I thought he wouldn’t take action, but he still came to save you. It means he still has feelings for you.
Why not give it another try?”
“I’ve been with him since I was eighteen. It’s been five years.” Mallory looked up. “From the beginning, I knew we had no future.
He would eventually find out that I approached him with a purpose.”
Josie was speechless. After a while, she told Mallory what had happened in the last two days and expressed her gratitude.
“Josie.” Mallory suddenly suggested, “Your path isn’t blocked. You should try your luck. At least let Dexter know the truth. If he
knows, maybe—”
“Maybe what? He won’t get married?” Josie sighed. “He has signed a cooperation agreement with the Olsen family. Mark won’t
let him off easily. I know he has no choice.”
“Are you just going to stand by and watch?”
Josie’s gaze became evasive, and she didn’t answer.
After spending some time with Mallory, Josie went to the restroom. Moses still followed her. She couldn’t bear it anymore, “Do
you have to follow me into the women’s restroom?”
“Ms. Jo, you have too many ways to escape. I have to be cautious.”
