Chapter 1375 It Was A Test
When Mark was mentioned, the expression on Abraham's face noticeably softened.
He gestured for her to sit down. "Young lady, I'm afraid I've made a fool of myself today."
Josie's expression remained composed. "I heard that you lost your wife early on and haven't remarried all these years, Mr. Witherspoon. Everyone says you're a man of deep affection, and I agree. But beyond this deep affection, there's always human nature, and there's no shame in that."
Abraham couldn't lift his head. "I hadn't considered these things before. As time went on, and with Juliette always away, I started to feel lonely..."
"I get it. Morgan was worried that this matter might leak out, and I assured him that while others might, you would never, Mr. Witherspoon." Josie twisted the facts and said, "Given my father's high regard for you, I also believe that you wouldn't."
Abraham scrutinized her, chuckling while shaking his head. "Young lady, you're here to test me."
Josie gestured toward the gift set aside. "Juliette has been a great help to me. I'm here on her behalf to visit you."
The mention of Juliette's name was, in reality, a form of intimidation.
Leaning back in his chair, Abraham stated, "You can go tell Morgan I won't breathe a word of this matter to anyone."
"Of course, I've never doubted it," Josie said, pausing for a moment.
"Just say what you have on your mind."
"Yesterday, Mr. Zabel mentioned that the investigation team was coming down, and Morgan was worried they might investigate him. He specifically asked me to inquire about the main issues they will be looking into." Josie leaned in and continued, "As a committee member of Newcove, Mr. Witherspoon, you should have heard something about this, right?"
She first mentioned Lionel, then brought up Morgan, and with her own status added to the mix, Abraham didn't harbor a shred of doubt.
"Why is he still so unsettled? We're all in the same boat. I've said it before. He won't be implicated!"
Josie clenched her fingers, asking the most crucial question, "What about Dexter? Did he really start investigating from Mandarin Oriental Hotel?" Abraham gave her a glance.
She was completely stiff, aware of the sound of her own heartbeat.
"Does Morgan really wish for Dexter to die so soon? He should remember that Dexter's ties with those in power are firmly
established. This time, he could only afford to teach him a minor lesson,
nothing too damaging. That should
suffice."
It was uncertain if it was a misunderstanding, but it seemed like all of Abraham's spoken and unspoken words were in defense of Dexter. Josie let out a small sigh of relief.
"However, I'm not sure if he can handle the financial issues."
Abraham's gaze drifted, settling on a wooden table not far away, where a group photo lay.
Dexter and Larry were indeed present, along with the individuals in the photographs, which included Juliette and Abraham.
Josie squinted her eyes. "You have a connection with Dexter, Mr. Witherspoon."
Upon hearing this, Abraham
immediately positioned himself to block the view. "It was just a brief encounter. I hope Morgan won't overthink it. Focusing on his own project is what truly matters."
Abraham assumed that she was on the same team as Morgan.
Josie had accomplished her goal. "I'll pass on the message. However, if you don't want Juliette to know either, please don't Juliette know that I've been here, Mr. Witherspoon. Otherwise, it would be hard to
explain, don't you think?" Content
Abraham realized he was being manipulated by her, yet he couldn't say no. "I know what to say."
Josie felt relieved.
When she left the Witherspoon residence, Jasper was still waiting outside. "How was it? I hope Mr. Witherspoon didn't give you a hard time with his words." Josie shook her head. "Take me to the airport, please."
The car sped away, but they didn't notice that Abraham was still standing on the balcony, watching them leave.
He glanced again at the group photo, always feeling as though something had been overlooked.
He stepped forward, picking up the gift that Josie had brought. Inside, there wasn't just sea cucumber, but also a phone.
