Black Sun Academy: Ghost Hunter Book 2

Chapter CHAPTER 16

Raegan busied herself in Jean’s kitchen making them a pot of tea as she waited for Jean to return home. She had gone to check on her grandson, wanting to make sure Dominic was still doing alright and that he hadn’t experienced any further attacks from the menacing spirit.

As she waited for the water to boil in Jean’s light blue old-fashioned teapot, Raegan replayed the incident that had occurred between her and Riley the day before in her head. One soul bonded couple within a coven is rare, more than one couple having the experience is practically unheard of and she wanted to question Jean on the topic of it having ever occurred before.

Having just placed two white teacups with intricately hand painted flower designs on the kitchen table, Raegan returned the teapot to the stove and made her way back over to the table. Taking a seat, she heard Jean’s side door open and close, a moment later, Jean popped her head into the kitchen. “Is that tea I smell?”

“It is,” Raegan said as she pointed to the second cup, indicating for Jean to join her at the table. With a small smile, she continued talking. “I was hoping to speak with you for a moment; if you have time that is.”

Jean took the seat across from her and nodded that she had time to spare. “I was wondering, do you by chance recall a time in history where your coven had experienced an anomaly of bonded souls at one time before?”

“Hmm,” Jean rested her chin on her hand as she thought about Raegan’s question. “There is something written in our history books about an odd occurrence a few centuries ago where all the young ones at that time in history were finding their soul mates. I would have to reread the history book to give you a further explanation in regard to that strange event. Why do you ask?”

“Well, I’m pretty sure Riley is my soul mate, and then of course there’s the soul bond between Dominic and Alina. I’m not sure about Devon but I have a suspicion that Jessica and Vincent are soul mates as well.” Raegan gazed upon Jean’s face as she said this and saw shock in her eyes.

“Really now. This is a very intriguing turn of events if what you are saying is true. I think I’m going to go have a chat with High Priestess and see what she has to say about your suspicion. She also has a copy of our local history, in the inter-sanctuary that I will ask to borrow as well. I will find you later dear and let you know what if any, answers I may have found for you.” Raegan nodded as Jean exited the house once more, with a farewell following after her.

Jessica couldn’t seem to keep the dumb grin from her lips. How could she have ever thought she was in love with Dominic? The first thing I should do tomorrow morning is call him and apologize for being such a bitch! She giggled as she thought this. I never thought I’d be one to believe in love at first sight, but here I am… Never in a million years would I have thought my ‘dream guy’ was actually a real person. And Vince was just as amazed by this outcome as she had been. Jess managed to catch up with Vince out on Nic and Devon’s front porch. He had just said goodbye to his sister when she stepped outside.

Vince ran a hand through his light blonde hair as he looks into Jessica’s golden eyes, his dark brown eyes seeming to lighten in color as happiness flashed across them while he gazed at her. “Hi, um, so, you’re Jessica…” Unsure of what he should say, he offered her a lopsided grin.

Jessica watched him as he spoke. When he grinned, she felt butterflies stir within her stomach. He seemed very nervous and hesitantly raised his hand like he was going to take hers but then he dropped it back down to his side. In a moment of spontaneity, Jess reached out and took his hand, clasping it in hers. Instant sparks occurred, and she and Vince stared in shocked awe as they watched the strange interaction. A light purple colored chord began to wrap itself around their entwined hands and then began to travel up their arms as they just stood frozen in amazement.

“Uh, wow. That was unexpected,” Vince said as he continued to stare at the threads being produced between the two of them. As the magical essence travelled to their chests and hearts, both he and Jess watched as the chord began trying to connect them, tugging each of them until they could do nothing more than step closer to one another. The world around them disappeared, leaving just them looking longingly into each other’s eyes.

Leaning towards one another, Jessica rose to tip toes to be able to kiss him better. Lips having just barely touched, they jumped apart as the front door swung open and Chris appeared, trying to leave Nic’s house. Seeing them standing in front of him, and noticing the blush creeping up Jess’s face, settling upon her cheeks, Chris had a wicked grin spread across his lips as he propped himself up against the door frame. “Hey Jess, what ya doing?”

Giving him one of her famous glares, Jessica sighed; “what do you want?” The annoyance in her voice caused Chris to burst out with laughter. He knew exactly what he had interrupted, and it amused him to no end.

“Well,” Chris began with a smirk. “I was going to walk home but since you are still here, Jess, I was hoping you could give me a lift, so I don’t freeze my butt off?”

“Yeah, fine. Whatever.” Jessica grumbled before looking back to Vince. “So, um,” she began shyly. “It was nice to officially meet you,” she said with a wave of her hand, barely managing to keep the dumb grin from her lips. Vince said the same in return, not bothering to try and hide his grin.

After they climbed into Jessica’s Mazda 3, Jess turned to Chris, “you owe me butthead. Couldn’t you tell I was having a ‘moment’ with Vince?”

“Oh yes,” Chris managed to say in between bouts of laughter. “I could tell. I just chose to ignore it.” She fisted her hand and punched him in the shoulder, which only caused him to laugh even harder. With a growl, Jess threw her car into reverse, backing out of Nic’s driveway, she continued on to the roundabout until she came upon her own home. Since Chris was her next-door neighbor, she hadn’t bothered pulling into his drive first. His ass can totally walk across the yard for interrupting my moment with Vince! She thought with a smirk.

They both exited her car and then Chris said, “see you later” and then dashed across the lawn to his house. Jessica let herself inside and went up to her bedroom, where she could currently be found, lying on her bed, fighting the stupid grin as she stared unseeingly up at her cream-colored ceiling.
