Black Sun Academy: Ghost Hunter Book 2

Chapter CHAPTER 10

“Dominnniiiicccc,” I hear Ali say my name, but it sounds strange. I’m not sure if it’s because this time I’m not dreaming or what, but I’m instantly alert to my surroundings. I must have fallen asleep on the couch when Devon and I tried to binge-watch some series on Netflix, Monday night. Realizing I’m not in my bedroom, I look around in a semi panicked state as I scan the room for her.

A shimmering essence catches my eye, drawing my attention to the black leather recliner, cattycorner to the couch I’m lying on. Her appearance looks different to me. I’m not sure if it’s due to the dimness of the living room lighting or what, but staring at her, I swear her image seems a little more solid than from the night before.

Curiously I watch her as she smiles at me. She is trying to say something, but I can’t quite make out what it is. “Ack, u… missssssss,” I watch as she scrunches her face up as she becomes frustrated at not succeeding in whatever she was trying to say to me. Unconsciously I stretched my hand out to her and for a split second, I felt her hand!

We look at each other in astonishment, both of our eyes have gone wide in shock. I smile as she grins at me. Her eyes are as large as emeralds, and she attempts to touch my leg but to no avail. Alina’s face falls in sadness and she does whatever is the equivalent to a ghost sighing. I chuckle silently and Ali proceeds to give me one of her ‘menacing’ glares which only causes me to laugh out loud.

My yearning to hold her has me standing on my feet. “Damn it, not again.” Her face begins to flash in and out of focus and just before she disappears on me completely, I hear “oooov, uuuu.”

“I love you too,” I whispered into the darkness. I feel dampness upon my cheeks and brushing fisted hands against my face, I can feel that some tears have escaped. Every time I think I have a handle on my emotions, the tear drops betray me.

Once I realize I am staring into the dark, I make my way up the steps and crawl into my bed. At the moment I feel like I don’t know if I can handle many more visits with her. The shattering of my heart each time she is forced away from me is getting harder to deal with. If I do get her back, I not sure I’ll have anything left of myself to give her.

Raegan and I have just returned from the airport with her brother in tow. As he climbed into the back of my Jeep, I recognized him as being one of the Night-Sky circle members. Though when he introduced himself then, he had called himself Vince, I didn’t make the connection that he and Raegan were related.

I can honestly say I would never have thought that he and Raegan were siblings. His hair is maybe one shade darker than my mom’s white, blonde hair, he is very close in height to me as opposed to her 5’4 inches, more than likely one who likes to work out at a gym, I’m just assuming because of his stocky build and appearance, like Riley’s, and eyes such a dark brown they almost look black.

We pulled into my parents’ driveway and then let ourselves inside. Jessica informed me Monday afternoon that she would be a willing participant in our circle activities, and I smiled as I saw her and the rest of the guys all chilling out in the living room when we walked inside.

As I go to introduce Raegan and Vince to everyone, I hear Jessica gasp in shock. I turned my head so quickly to see why; that I made myself dizzy for a second.

“I know you! You were in my dreams a couple of nights ago!” she exclaimed as she blatantly stared at Vince. Her mouth fell wide as she continued to look at him in disbelief.

His eyes go wide as well as he seems to recognize her too, his facial expression one of shock as well. “You’re a real person, Jessica? I thought you were just a dream spirit. Are you a dream walker?”

Jess shook her head. “No, my affinity is for determining other people’s magic and helping them hone their abilities.”

“Interesting since mine is calling to the spirit realm and chatting with the dead. I wonder how we were able to meet with each other in a dream?”

They continued to stare at each other, and I couldn’t keep the grin from spreading across my face. “Hey Raegan, I know you’ve met my brother Devon, but I wanted to introduce you to the rest of our group. Over in the chair there, that’s Chris and on the loveseat over there, that’s Riley. And Jessica is the one talking to your brother right now.” Raegan’s eyes followed my hand as I pointed each one out, but then I see them land back on Riley. Riley is smiling from ear to ear like a dork and I think I even see a blush on his cheeks.

Apparently, I’m in the wrong line of work and should have been a match maker instead because I see sparks flying everywhere. I chuckled at the thought. “Since the introductions are done, let me show Vince to the guest room and help get him settled in.”

Everyone dispersed from the living room, heading to the kitchen while I led Vincent to the spare room. “So, that girl, Jessica… is she seeing anyone?” I hear Vince ask as he enters behind me. I can’t help but laugh at him because of mine and Jess’s newly mended friendship and I see a grin hesitantly cross his lips.

“No dude, she is as free as a bird. Just a little bit of advice though, that little birdie has sharp talons and a flock willing to do anything for her. So, if you’re planning on anything other than a legit relationship with her, don’t even bother her. You hurt her, we hurt you; got it?” I ended my sentence with a wink at him, knowing he knew full well what I meant by my words and then I exited the room, so he could get settled in.

After he got situated, we went into the kitchen as well to hear them discussing the possibility of going to a movie tonight. Winter break started Monday in our community and Devon is free of schooling until January second.

“Hey Raegan, right?” Riley stretched his hand out to place it on Raegan’s arm in an attempt to get her attention. She spun around letting her blue eyes lock with his golden ones and smiled up at him.

“Hi,” she said in turn. “Yep, Raegan, that’s me!” she added as a giggle slipped past her lips. “And you’re um, Riley, right?” She placed her hand on top of his hand that was resting on the white sleeve of the sweater she wore and then they just stood frozen, gazing at one another. A golden chord began to swirl around them, trying to pull them together. They both stared at the magic being produced between them in awe and wonder. A moment later they released their hold upon one another and smiled shyly at each other.

“Uh, wow. What was that?” Riley asked in surprised curiosity.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d say that was the first sign of a soul bond…” Raegan trailed off as she contemplated the thought. “Aren’t Dominic and Alina soul mates? Interesting… hmm, I need to look something up. It was nice to meet you, Riley.”

Riley watched as Raegan walked away from him, a dumbfounded expression on his face…

Raegan pondered over the fact that Dominic and Alina had the soul mate connection and that she was pretty sure the occurrence that Riley and she had just experienced was the soul mate bonding as well. ’Very curious,’ she thought as she made her way back to Grandma Jean’s house and the guest room, she was occupying so she could rifle through the books she had brought with her.
