Bitten

Chapter 16

Have you ever been so thirsty that even as you drink water it does not travel fast enough down your throat?

That is how I feel at the moment.

Blood gushes out of the sides of my lips as I gulp down.

Removing my lips from the man’s neck my eyes roll back and I inhale deeply.

It feels as if this is the first meal I have ever really had.

My body comes alive as the liquid takes its course and my mind goes into a trance not aware of anything except for the true elixir of life, blood. Letting go of my meal I step back.

“You keep on surprising me at every turn,” Wes is next to me holding on to the man’s limp body but his heart is still beating in my ears.

He’s alive and breathing something so small registers in my mind and my greatest fear subsides.

“Am I supposed to feel like this?”

My body feels light and my eyes heavy, pressing my back against the wall to keep me up as my feet feel numb.

“What?”

Wes bites the man in the same spot as I did and I observe as he licks that puncture wounds and then hisses.

“Damn it!”

Wes drops the man next to the woman he fed on. His meal is alive as well but that is just because he has had more practice. He told me about the first time he fed and the mental pictures that danced in my mind were not pretty, that was one of the reasons why I didn’t want to feed on humans.

They’re both are alive and look like they had too much to drink, just like the way I am feeling at the moment.

“I need to get you home now!”

Wes wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me close to him.

“Why?” My voice comes out high pitched and whiney.

“Abigail, didn’t you smell him? That man is drugged out of his mind.” He hisses in my ear and that’s when the room starts spinning.

“No way,” a gasp escapes me and I can’t stop the giggle that follows.

“Abigail this is serious, now move your legs!”

My legs start to feel like gelatin and the wind brushing past my face as the room moves in a blur.

“Fuck,” then just as sudden as the room starts moving it all stops.

I am press against Wes’ chest and he is looking down at me with his dark eyes. Not sure if it’s my weirdness at the moment getting the best of me but a scream erupts and Wes’ lips are at my ear.

“You’re attracting a lot of attention.”

The irritation in his voice is loud and clear and at the moment I could care less.

“So?”

“Abigail, get yourself together,” he hisses and pulls me up straight.

Wes practically carries me out of the club. The fresh air makes me take in a sudden deep breath. Everything comes into my sight clearer than before and I turn to Wes.

“What was that?”

“What?”

“I feel the same as when I first arrived!” His eyes furrow together.

“I don’t know Abigail you’re not like anyone else I know.” His arms release me as I am now balanced and standing on my own feet.

“Wes,” the voice comes from behind me and I don’t have to turn around to know who it is.

My blood boils and fangs protrude with ease as I let my anger fill me.

“Damn it,” Wes stiffens next to me knowing exactly who it is as well.

“Can I talk to your newborn?”

He’s asking him permission to talk to me, what am I a child?

“Abigail, don’t,” Wes turns to look at me but it’s too late. I turn to face Vincent and we are face to face.

“You have two seconds before I rip your throat out!” It comes out a harsh hiss but that is my body’s natural reaction to him.

“You’re in danger!” He blurts out.

“What’s happening?” Wes’s eyes are lost in thought as they dart around.

“You’re girlfriend here is sending every vampire within a two-mile radius in a frenzy. They want her blood.”

“What?” I look at Wes and realization hits him and he gasps.

“She fed! Her body went into shock when her fangs finally punctured through human flesh.”

What is he talking about?

“Long story short newbie Wes here fucked up. Your body is releasing hormones into the air that is making every vampire in the city come out and feed, and shits going to get worse once they get to smell your blood.”

Vincent’s fangs are showing from the bottom of his top lip. He wants to come after me as well but for some reason, he fighting his urges.

“No,” I turn to look at Wes as the pain in his eyes flashes before me.

“I’m sorry I didn’t know.” His voice is a mere whisper and I can feel my heart drop or at least it would have if I could feel my heart.

The crashing noise from behind me makes me jump back into Wes as two figures make their way towards us in the shadows.

They are like crazed animals swaying in the side to side coming towards us. Their eyes darken by the hunger they are feeling, there could be a person gushing blood in front of them and they would not care they want me.

Wes and Vincent hiss as they step in front of me and crouch ready to attack them.

I am tired of being a damn damsel in distress!

When the first vampire lunges at Wes I am faster than them both and I lunge forward colliding with the vampire head-on.

He is young with a baby face but with crazed eyes as his teeth snap together trying to bite into me. My hands grasp his shoulders and slam him into the brick wall next to us, pieces of concrete scatter at my feet and dust disperses around his head.

“You want me? I’m not going down without a fight.” My fangs keep coming out as if I need more length to do what I am planning on doing.

My mouth closes in on the nape of his neck. He is pulling at my hair trying anything to pull me away from him. Then he releases my hair and I feel someone behind me with his mouth close to my ear.

“Let your vampire side surface and it will know what to do.”

Vincent has the vampire in front of me hands pin to the wall. I nod and my mouth travels to the side of the vampire’s neck and plunges my entire fangs into it.

The blood gushes into my mouth and naturally, my vampire side starts drinking it.

“Damn it Abigail stop,” Vincent grabs my shoulder and pulls me back but my mouth did not want to release its prey.

An unnatural growl rumbles deep in my throat and Vincent steps back.

My vampire keeps feeding and when there is nothing left my jaw tightens and pulls back ripping its throat out and the vampire before me is a pool at my feet. I turn to look at Wes and Vincent as they stare at me unsure.

“I’m going to start taking her threats more seriously now.” Vince winces his eyes are glued to the vampire at my feet.

“Abigail?” Wes puts his hands up palms facing me and walks slowly toward me. “Are you okay?”

Flinging my head to the side I throw the piece of meat to the side, “why wouldn’t I be?”

Wes swallows and glances at Vincent, “That was not normal.” Vincent states rather unsure.

“You both knew from the start that I was not normal.” I shrug and they both stiffen as if not sure if I was going to attack them.

“Do you see what I see?” Wes nudges Vincent and he nods back at him.

“What?”

“Your eyes are glowing,” Vincent’s head tilts a bit as if trying to see if it is a trick of the light. “Wes, take her home. I’ll take care of the rest.”

I look around me and there are two dead vampires, does that count as murder? Wes grabs my forearms and pulls me out of the street and runs towards my apartment as if in fear that someone might be chasing us.

My hair whips around me and Wes’s pace seems to be a bit slower than before but I keep at his pace.
