Chapter BIT 70

Chapter 70

Rebecca sat facing Sean in the backyard garden, both of them serious as they stared at the laptop placed on the table between them,

“I don’t want you to be afraid of the risks that might happen, so let’s make an agreement that won’t harm anyone,” Sean said earnestly,

Rebecca cleared her throat softly. “I don’t have many conditions but there are two fundamental things,” she said cautiously.

“And what are those?” Sean asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Firstly, I want you to treat Lily as if she were your own daughter” Rebecca replied, nervously squeezing her fingers, as a contract marriage was something new to her.

Sean nodded. “Even without you asking me to do that, I would still do it. I will treat Lily better than anyone else. Leave that one, so, what’s the second one?”

Rebecca swallowed, still looking down at the table, busy finding the right words. “Becky?”

“Yeah, um, no sex things, please,” “Rebecca blurted out, her face turning red as she said

Sean chuckled, making Rebecca finally look up from the table and frown at him. “Why are you laughing?”

Sean cleared his throat, quickly rubbing his nose. “Listen, that kind of thing hasn’t crossed my mind since Maggie and Bea left. So, don’t worry about that, I completely understand.”

Rebecca sighed in relief. After that, they began discussing the important points they needed to agree on for their contract marriage, finishing an hour later just as Lily cried out on the baby monitor.

With Lily’s condition stabilizing, Rebecca took her downstairs to the first floor, approaching Sean who was still sitting in the same place.

Sean smiled broadly upon seeing Lily. “Too bad I can’t carry her, my clothes have been exposed to cigarette smoke,” he said regretfully. Rebecca nodded, “It’s okay, how was your mom?” she asked, cradling Lily in her arms.

“She is in a good shape but she refused to talk to me,” Sean replied with a shrug.

“Should I see her?” Rebecca mumbled uncertainly.

“Up to you, but you’ll have to brace yourself because she might go on about my misfortunes again,” Sean half–joked.

“Um, I’m a bit confused about how to tell Angela that we’re getting married. I mean, we’ve only known each other for a few days, wouldn’t that sound suspicious?” Rebecca mumbled, looking puzzled.

“I don’t think my mom will care about that, she’ll be happy to hear this good news but let me be the one to tell her, or you know what? Let’s go see her and tell her together,” Scan said, closing his laptop and leading Rebecca towards Angela’s room in the front corner of the large mansion.

“How many maids work here?” Rebecca asked when she saw Erin giving instructions to three other maids.

“Four people, they’ve been here for a long time,” Sean replied.

“Sean, wait, Rebecca suddenly stopped, startling Sean. “What happened?”

Rebecca took a long breath. “Um, after we get married, is it okay if we stay in New York for good? I mean, Angela is alone and her condition-

“I’ll be fine! I really enjoy my alone time and I have a dozen close friends who live around here. So, did I hear correctly? Are you two really getting married?” Suddenly Angela appeared, her face full of curiosity.

Rebecca widened her eyes in surprise, glancing at Sean and seeing him equally surprised. There was an awkward silence for ten seconds before Sean finally cleared his throat loudly, drawing Angela and Rebecca’s attention towards him.

“Yes, Sean?Angela asked with a tense expression.

Sean took a deep breath. “Okay, let’s sit down, the three of us. Well, the four of us,” he said, looking at Lily in Rebecca’s arms.

“Okay,” Angela agreed, her curiosity piqued. Sean quickly took Angela’s hand and led her to the living room sofa.

“So, can we just get straight to the point? I am curious,” Angela said, rubbing her palms

Rebecca looked at Sean, eager to know what he would say to Angela because she couldn’t possibly say the truth.

“Mom, I know this sounds strange but when you asked me to live normally and leave my guilt behind, you said something right,” Sean began his words. Beside him, Angela couldn’t hide her smile, though she tried her best.

“Truthfully, from the moment I first saw Rebecca at the clinic, I had a different feeling about her, which is why I brought her here, and you know, I even slept somewhere other than the clinic, something I haven’t done in three years,” Sean continued, looking up and meeting Rebecca’s eyes.

Rebecca knew Sean was just boasting and acting to reassure Angela, but for some reason, his words sounded very real to her, as if he was telling the truth.

Angela covered her mouth with both hands, her eyes welled up. She nodded several times, waiting for Sean to continue his words.

Sean cleared his throat softly and then returned his gaze to Angela. “So confessed to Becky and despite all her problems, she wanted to start over with me. I

Mom, I don’t care if she just needs protection, but we agreed to get married and learn to love each other.”

“Oh my God! This is the best news I’ve heard in three years. Oh God, Maggie and Bea will definitely support this decision one hundred percent, believe me and don’t even think about changing your mind,” Angela exclaimed, unable to contain her tears of joy.

Rebecca smiled, though she was slightly unsure about what she was doing. She just hoped that her big decision wouldn’t turn out to be a mistake, like when she agreed to be Nicholas Bennett’s fake girlfriend.

“Becky, believe me, Sean will make you the happiest woman in the world and Lily will get the perfect father figure. Welcome to the Parker family…”
