Chapter BIT 60

Chapter 60

Jacob hesitated, his gaze lingering on Rebecca’s face, searching for any sign of doubt. But her eyes were steady, determined. He reached for the envelope on the table and handed it to her. Rebecca took it with trembling hands, her resolve momentarily faltering as she felt the weight of what she was about to do.

“Are you sure, Becky?” Jacob asked softly, his voice filled with concern.

Rebecca nodded, swallowing hard. “Yes. It’s clear he doesn’t want to be with me anymore. I need to do this for my own sanity and for Lily.”

She opened the envelope, pulling out the divorce papers. The legal jargon blurred in her teary eyes, but she could make out the familiar handwriting of Harvey’s signature at the bottom of each page. Her heart ached, but she steeled herself, knowing this was the only way forward. With a deep breath, she signed the documents, each stroke of the pen feeling like a final goodbye to the life she had envisioned with Harvey.

When she finished, Rebecca handed the papers back to Jacob. “Can you take care of these for me? I don’t think I can handle it anymore.”

Jacob nodded, taking the envelope. “Of course, Don’t worry!”

Rebecca looked at Lily, who had fallen asleep in Jacob’s arms, her tiny face peaceful and unaware of the turmoil around her. “I have to be strong for her. She deserves better than a mother who’s falling apart. If her father doesn’t want to fight for her, then I will.”

Jacob placed Lily gently in her stroller, then turned back to Rebecca. “You are strong, Becky. You’ve been through so much, and you’re still standing. That’s more than a lot of people can say.”

Rebecca managed a weak smile. “Thank you, Jacob.”

“Anytime!” He squeezed her hand reassuringly.

Suddenly, Rebecca’s phone vibrated, an incoming call from Cathy. She hurriedly pressed the green button.

“Cathy? How’s your mom?she asked quickly.

Only the sound of sobbing could be heard, making Rebecca’s eyes widen.

“Cathy?”

“Becky. I don’t think I can work as your manager anymore, Cathy said through her

tears.

Rebecca frowned.

“Don’t worry about that, okay? Just focus on your mom’s health,” she said, not understanding why Cathy suddenly said that.

“You don’t understand, Becky. We can’t see each other anymore. I’m sorry…

Suddenly, the call was disconnected.

“Cathy? Are you still there?” Rebecca called out. She looked at her phone screen and was shocked to realize the call had ended.

She tried calling Cathy back, but her calls always went to voicemail.

“What’s wrong?Jacob asked, frowning in confusion. Is something wrong with Cathy?”

Rebecca shook her head. “I don’t understand. She suddenly said she can’t work as my manager anymore. Well, I mean, that’s not a problem, but she also said she can’t see me anymore. Isn’t that strange?

Jacob frowned. “Strange…”

“I have to see her,” murmured Rebecca, biting her lip anxiously. She had never had a friend as close to her as Cathy.

“Becky…”

Rebecca looked up, her face pale, and stared at Jacob.

Jacob cleared his throat gently. “What if this has something to do with your husband’s family?”

Rebecca felt like she had been struck by lightning. She was so shocked by the idea that she dropped the phone in her hand.

“Oh, God! Did I just put Cathy and her family in danger?” she said, trembling.

“It’s not your fault, okay? This is beyond your control,” Jacob said, touching Rebecca’s shoulder gently.

Rebecca covered her face, her sobs breaking out, and her shoulders shaking violently.

“What did I do wrong? Why are they so cruel to take everything from me?”

Jacob hugged Rebecca, trying to comfort her. “Hey, not everything, okay? You still have Lily and me…”

Jacob’s words seemed unable to stop Rebecca’s crying. She continued to weep, which eventually woke Lily, causing her to cry as well. But when Rebecca saw Jacob busy calming both her and Lily, she felt touched, and her sobbing subsided.

“Let me hold her,” Rebecca said, wiping her nose with a tissue.

“Are you sure?”

Rebecca nodded. “Yes, I’m sure. I need to hold her.”

Jacob carefully handed Lily to Rebecca, who cradled her daughter gently. The warmth of Lily’s small body against her chest provided a surprising sense of comfort. Rebecca’s tears slowed, and she focused on the simple act of holding her child.

“I have to contact Victoria,” Rebecca murmured, gently stroking Lily’s soft forehead. “Becky, it’s better not to-”

“They’ve crossed the line! This is no longer about pushing me out of Harvey’s life; they want to crush me and drag me down to the bottom!” Rebecca ranted, her chest heaving.

In the midst of their emotional conversation, the door suddenly opened from the outside, and Victoria stepped in with her chin held high.

Rebecca stared in shock at Victoria’s unexpected appearance.

“What are you doing here?” Rebecca asked sharply.

Victoria glanced briefly at Jacob and then flipped her long hair. “Go far away from here, to a place where you can’t be found. That is if you still care about your life and your daughter’s life,” she whispered, her eyes glinting with hatred.

Jacob stiffened, his protective instincts flaring up as he stepped closer to Rebecca and Lily. “What are you talking about, Victoria?” he demanded, his voice low and controlled, but with an edge of anger.

Victoria smirked, her eyes never leaving Rebecca’s. “You think this is a game, don’t you, Becky? But for your information, we don’t play games. We destroy obstacles. And right

now, you are the biggest obstacle in our way.”

Rebecca shook her head in disbelief. “Why? never did anything wrong! Why?”

Victoria’s expression softened for a brief moment, a flicker of something almost like sympathy crossing her face before it hardened again. “It’s not about what you did, Becky. It’s about power, control, and keeping things in the family. You were never meant to be part of our world. Accept that and leave while you still can.”
