But he also knew very well that since he decided to cooperate with Guan Yi and the rest to fight against Greedy Wolf, there were only two possible endings to this fight.
Either Greedy Wolf died, or the rest of them did.

But after the Heavenly Palace was destroyed, the Demon King realized that the thing he was looking for wasn't in the Heavenly Palace at all," said Tang Fang. "After the Heavenly Palace was destroyed, the Underworld itself suffered crippling damage. If the Demon King had not left some people behind, all of you wouldn't be alive now."
Guan Yi scoffed. He wasn't here to listen to all this.
All of this happened in the past, so there was no point in bringing it up again. The most important thing now was how to plan for the future so that he could achieve his aim.
"The people who knew anything about what happened back then have all died, except for two ex-Court Chiefs. But they have shut themselves in all this time and refuse to care about what is happening outside at all. Even if you look for them, they won't tell you anything either," said Tang Fang directly.
"Are you sure they know?"
"They might not," Tang Fang shook his head. "Even the Demon King found out about this just before he died, so how could the others have known?"
"So what on earth is it?" Guan Yi lost his patience and couldn't stand hearing Tang Fang go round in circles. "Just tell us what it is and where it is now!"
"I have no idea," Tang Fang shook his head again. "I really have no idea. In fact, the current Demon King probably doesn't know what it is either."
They had all guessed that the
current Demon King, who went by the name Greedy Wolf, had a portion of the Demon King's soul, but he was essentially a different person. They weren't sure if Greedy Wolf knew what clues the Demon King picked up just before he perished.
"You don't know?" Guan Yi narrowed his eyes. "Then I suppose, the Demon King doesn't either."
"Are you sure?" asked the 9th Court Chief, Luo Yang. "Are you sure the Demon King doesn't know either?"
"From the looks of it, he doesn't
know. If he knew, he would have taken action by now." Guan Yi scoffed. He's such a greedy fellow and full of ambition. If he knew what he was looking for, he would have gone ahead by now. You think he would be able to hold himself back?"
He guessed that Greedy Wolf didn't know and didn't have this part of the Demon King's memory. Or perhaps, even the Demon King only found out just before dying that the Heavenly Palace didn't have what he wanted, but didn't know where it was either.
"This is no laughing matter." Luo Yang shook his head. "If we're not careful, we're all going to die."
He didn't want to take such risks.
If Greedy Wolf actually knew what he was looking for and they pulled stunts on him, they were definitely going to perish instead.
Even Tang Fang shook his head as well.
"Do you still have a choice?" Guan Yi snorted. "It doesn't matter. If you're afraid, I'll do the dirty work. You just need to assist me in some matters. I'll bear all the risk."
"But of course, let me state this clearly now. I'm going to take half the spoils when the time comes!"
Everyone's expression changed, but there was nothing they could say either.
