Chapter 27: You're Still Calling the Shots for Her?
Simon went downstairs, only making the call after entering his car. It took Olivier ten seconds to pick up.
The afternoon sun glared brightly, reflecting blinding light from the windshield. Simon put on his sunglasses and lit a cigarette. "What's up?"
"You're with Fleur?"
"Ha." Simon released a breath. "She only made some noise and you're already sure it's her. Have you become that close with her?"
Olivier rose from his office chair walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. A shining river ran outside the building. On the other side of it was The Stunning Club itself. "Why are you looking for her? I told you you can't have the wine."
"What's this? You're still calling the shots for her?"
"Yes." Olivier's dark eyes reflected off the glass.
Simon took a long drag. He was in no hurry to start the car, getting himself into a comfortable position. He opened the window to flick cigarette ash outside, and continued, "This woman is deeply connected to Samuel's death."
Olivier did not give a response. His eyes, black as obsidian, carried a sharp coldness. "Don't touch her."
"Looks like you already know that I'm going to investigate her background. I'll definitely investigate, Olivier. My brother would never have committed suicide."
"I know. I meant to leave it up to me to investigate."
Simon took another drag. A cold smile rose along with a sliver of smoke. "I've heard some things in the short time I've been back in the country. Your grandmother's situation for one, then your marriage proposal to Virginie failing. Aren't these two women enough trouble for you?"
Olivier looked at the rushing river, rays of sun catching on his eyes and hiding his expression.
"I already have two women to worry about, would I afraid of even one more?"
Simon was silent for a moment before continuing, "How long have you known Fleur?"
"Two days."
"It's only been two days and it seems like you're already ready to give up Virginie, the woman you've known for ten years, just to go to Fleur?"
Olivier hung up the phone, still looking outside. The sun's bright golden light had a shading effect as dark night did in making sure nothing could be seen.
His phone rang again, this time with a text message.
[Simon came just now. He even touched me.]
Olivier did not reply.
[Aren't you going to take me to dinner? Make sure I'm okay? How about I come to you instead?]
Olivier's face tightened, his lips stretching into a sharp line. He tossed his phone away and went back to work.
Fleur's message was left on read seconds after it was sent. Laying on the sofa, her willowy brows raised. Olivier read her text pretty fast this time.
That would mean he had his phone in hand, hence...he had likely just finished a call with Simon.
Olivier still didn't reply though. Fleur pouted. What was the use for him to carry a phone around if he did not use it. Such impoliteness!
At five o'clock in the afternoon, Fleur left The Stunning Club.
The Martinez's Company building was truly a magnificent sight. The Martinez's Moss Hotel was even more so. Fleur entered after parking her car. Upon entering the lobby, Thierry called.
"Boss, someone's causing trouble, insisting to see you. What should we do?"
"Have you forgotten the rules? Why'd you call me for such a silly thing?" There had been too many people who wanted to see The Stunning Club's owner in the past half a year, causing ruckuses every time. They had a procedure for this kind of situation, just three steps: first is to explain things so they leave. Then if they persist, persuade them. Only if they don't leave at this point are they beaten up. Beaten up until they listen, anyway.
"But he seems to be an influential figure. I'm afraid..."
Fleur saw Olivier in the lobby corner with Virginie right opposite of him. Oh, so he did not answer the message because he was having dinner with Virginie.
Fleur strode over, speaking to Thierry, "If it's a nobody, teach him a lesson until he leaves. If it is somebody powerful, then beat him until something breaks so he listens."
