Chapter 58 –
Robert's POV
I don't understand what just happened. One minute, I am trying to get Adra to stop flirting with me, and then the next, Saoirse disappears. Adra has never been this clingy before today. I know it was because I was with Saoirse. Adra was acting jealous, but there was nothing between Adra and I. I knew she had gone through so much, so only Warrick and I brought her food out to her. At least eighty percent of the time, it was me. She was used to me, and we wanted her to be comfortable here. The only times that Warrick did it was when I was sent out for a specific duty.
Adra was always nice and pleasant but had never placed her hands on me before. I didn't like it. It was like she was telling Saoirse something when she did it. I could feel Saoirse closing up more the longer we were here. I couldn't believe how rude Adra was being to her. I had never seen this side of her before, but I didn't like what I was seeing. I stayed for the next fifty minutes to help calm her down. I took the stakes that had been left outside with me when I left. I will see if Warrick can pick up this particular detail from now on. I don't feel the same way Adra does and will not encourage it.
I ran all the way back to Saoirse's home. I could feel how upset and hurt she was, and that helped me to calm down a little. I was really upset that she would leave me behind when I was supposed to be with her. It is my job to keep her safe, and I care for her. I didn't know how to calm Adra down, so I made her a pot of coffee. She cried for about five minutes before slowly calming down. I knew she was feeling better when she offered to cook for me. I refused, as I needed to get back to Saoirse.
I had been hurt and angry that she would disappear from me like that. I couldn't leave my friend while she was crying. She was very upset at seeing the stakes. I can see where it might bring back bad memories, but Saoirse had been thinking of Adra when she had them made. They were for her protection, but Adra kept mentioning how thoughtless and mean Saoirse was for reminding her of that time of her life. I had to agree with Saoirse. Adra was in the back corner of the pack and alone. It would not be a stretch for feral vampires to enter the pack near her. That is one of the reasons for the patrols. Adra would be much safer by keeping them and just storing them. Instead, she spent twenty minutes talking badly about Saoirse. I saw the real Adra today and didn't like what I saw.
I quickly scanned my hand on the plate when I returned to Saoirse's home. I expected her to be in the living room or kitchen, but she was not there. I heard a low moan, and before I could stop him, Echo took over. He was up the stairs and heading down the hallway to the bedroom at the far end of the hall. I was telling him that this was a bad idea. She is never going to forgive this intrusion. We should have just stayed downstairs and waited for her to return.
"No! You are taking too long. Saoirse is ours, yet you are not showing her that. You are giving her too much space. She will not accept us unless we show her what she means to us. She is thinking about us right now. I know you can tell it, too. If you won't go get our mate, I have too. I won't lose her because you are trying to be patient. I want my mate," Echo's voice growled in my head.
"I know that she is thinking about us, Echo, but she is also hurt. Adra upset her, and I don't know how to get her to trust us. I am working on it, but I don't want to rush her," I linked him back.
"No, she has built up a wall to protect herself. She will never let someone in, we have to knock down the wall, and show her what she means to us. She can read our minds. I will make her look into ours before I allow her to make us leave here today. I am not leaving until she knows that we would die for her. We are willing to kill for her, and I will never allow her to be hurt again," Echo linked me back as he opened the door to Saoirse's bedroom, shutting the door after we entered.
He walked right to the entrance to her bathroom. The bathroom was open to her bedroom, and we saw Saoirse in all her glory in the shower. She was using the handheld water head on herself, and the moans were much louder in the bathroom. The clear glass door allowed us to see every curve of her body when she suddenly came with a small cry of release. Seeing her, hearing her, had my cock harder than it had ever been.
I had to fight the urge that Echo was giving me, wanting to undress and join her in the shower. I knew that the minute she came down from her high, she would know we were there, but Echo didn't move. He just stood there and drank her in. Her head had fallen back as she came, and she had one hand braced on the wall to help support her. The waterhead was no longer hitting her sensitive spot and was now hanging in her hand.
We looked at her from head to toe. Echo was not going to miss this opportunity with his mate. His eyes ran down her slender neck, still exposed as her head was thrown back. Her breasts were a handful, even to my large hands. She usually wore flowy shirts and jeans. I knew she had a good figure, but I had never seen just how good it was until today. We broke our eyes off her breasts with difficulty and let them trail down the rest of her body. My mate was a Goddess, and I wanted, no, I needed, to get my hands on her. Echo ran our eyes down her long, shapely legs, and when he got to her feet, he let out a low growl.
As anticipated, her head snapped up immediately. He wanted her to know we were here, and that we wanted her, maybe he was right. She was not going to bring down her walls unless she knew our true feelings for her. She turned her back towards us as she rinsed off, but that view was equally desirable. Her firm ass begged for me to grip it as I lowered her down onto my cock. I cannot believe Echo was putting these images in our head. I needed to apologize for his coming in here, not push harder for her to accept us.
"I will not lose my mate, Robert. She is ours as much as we are hers. She needs us, mate wants us," Echo linked me as the glass door opened. She grabbed a towel and wound her wet hair up into it before grabbing a second towel as she exited the shower..
"I didn't expect you to come here, Robert. I assumed that you would still be with Adra," Saoirse spoke first. She blocked our view with the towel as she dried herself off, but it was too late. We already knew that she was perfect, even before we got to see her in the shower. I almost wish that Echo had any kind of patience, instead he just rushed up here and got us into trouble.
"Not Robert, Echo," Echo's voice lower and more guttural than mine answered her.
I watched as her head snapped up to look us in the eyes. She finally nodded and said, "That explains why you are here in my bedroom, uninvited,"
"You are my mate. I sense it; I can scent you, and I want you. We already love you. I know you can tell how we feel about you. You could see it for yourself if you'd only look. Why do you keep hurting us, Saoirse? Why can't you accept us? I want my mate. I always have. We waited for you. Don't you care that you are hurting us by ignoring our feelings for you?" Echo ground out. The pain that we were feeling was clear in his voice.
"I didn't ask for this to happen. I only came to find my daughter," Saoirse responded, but that was not an answer.
"We didn't ask for this either. We have loved and accepted you since the moment we scented you. We want to be with you every hour of every day. You can verify that for yourself. You can see that we would rather die than hurt you. We are not James. I need you to open your eyes and see that. Why refuse to accept our love? Why can't you give us a chance? You haven't even let me touch you to prove that you are my mate. I am not interested in you because you are beautiful. I want you because you are kind, witty, funny, and loving. Because you were created for me by the Goddess herself, and no one will ever love you more than I would. I want you to bear my pups and raise them with me. Witch or wolf, I do not care what they are at all. We will love them wholeheartedly," Echo told her.
I watched as Saoirse struggled to ignore our heartfelt plea. We needed and wanted her. I knew if she refused us, my life would be very different from now on. Without her here with us, there would be no joy in our lives. She was brought to me for a reason. I suddenly realized that we were crying. Everything Echo had said to her had been the truth. Our souls were bared for her to see. If she rejected us, the pain would be even worse than what I was experiencing now. She held our future in the palm of her hand. I was praying that she would not crush it in her palm.
Her silence spoke volumes, and my heart clenched as I realized that this was it. She was trying to think of a way to gently let us down. Her eyes just stared at us, unblinking, and I turned to leave. Echo was so hurt by her not accepting us that he had relinquished control back to me. He wanted to lick his wounds.
I had taken two steps away from her when I heard her say, "I will give you a chance. I do care for you, and I can see that you're not lying to me. Please, don't hurt me. I don't think I can survive my heart being broken a second time."
I turned and rushed back to her. Quickly pulling her into my arms. "Can I mark you? That way, you will always know my feelings for you. I will never make you doubt me, my love," I told her.
She answered, "You can mark me." I wasted no time in elongating my teeth to mark her before she could change her mind. I won't let her go; she is mine, and I can't wait for the whole world to know it.
