Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape

Chapter 144 –

Cara's

POV

I knew what she was doing, as she had told me she planned on getting them to run out of bullets before we dealt with them. Unfortunately, I can see that my mother couldn't take much more of this. The barrage of bullets that is flying at her is concerning. I know how much power she uses to keep the bullets from penetrating the barrier around her. Despite only having a smaller area to protect, she is not equipped to keep this up much longer.

Usually, we would have just teleported out of here and taken ourselves to safety. But we were both tired from how long this had gone and from our pregnancies. The babies we were carrying were already draining our power. We couldn't have taken everyone safely with us like we usually could have. We had no choice but to stand and fight. We needed to protect our family and friends until we were able to defeat Clay and his men. We had no other choice.

The twins already take a toll on her. I can already tell she won't be able to hold out much longer. These jerks may not be the brightest I have encountered, but they were certainly prepared. The plan of waiting them out until they had no further bullets would not work. The guy who hadn't brought a gun was refilling the magazines for them and handing them back the filled cartridges.

I was getting more upset by the moment. I was so focused on what was happening to my mother that I could not focus on what Luna and Brenna were saying to me. A few minutes later, I heard my mother's faint voice inside my head. She was using the bulk of her energy to keep herself protected. I wasn't prepared to hear what she was about to say.

'Cara, I am so proud of you. I wish I could stay with you to continue to train you, but don't worry. I will be sending one of my friends here to complete your training. I am so thankful I got to see the woman you have become, but I can't hold out much longer. I only wanted to be able to protect you and your sisters from harm. I didn't realize that Clay had come here quite so prepared. I should have realized it sooner. He has no other way to beat us other than with the method he is using. Let Alexei take care of you and the baby. He loves you and will always take care of you,' my mother whispered to me.

'No, I just got you back. I refuse to lose you. I won't do it. You are going to make it, no matter what I need to do. I need you now more than ever. Clay made a mistake coming here. I won't allow that pompous jerk to take both of my parents away from me,' I linked her back. I didn't care what he came here for. He was done, and they were all done. I am about to deal with all the intruders. Mom was so focused on protecting herself that she couldn't see how they were continuing to pin her down. I flicked my hand, and the bag disappeared. That was the first step in ending this.

I turned to look at the four people behind me and said we must head over to my Mom now. I am about to include her in my protection. She won't last much longer. So walk with me towards her," I told them. I wasn't going to allow my mother to die today. She still had her eyes closed, looking down on the floor. I felt a burst of energy as I grabbed my sister's hands and walked over to my mother. They didn't even notice me until I was right behind the one shooting behind my mother.

I flicked my hand, and he flew ten feet away, landing face down on the floor. He looked back over his shoulder to see what happened. I saw the look of fear in his eyes before he stood back up and started to shoot at me and my group. Good, that was some of the pressure off my mother. I began to form an ice arrow in my hand. I ensured it had a sharp point and prayed that I would hit him properly. If I can take him out, I am sure the other two will run. Clay won't be running away. He will double down. He isn't going to leave here today without killing either me or my mother.

The moment the man firing at me dropped his magazine from his gun to change it out. I dropped a section of my barrier and threw the ice arrow at his chest as hard as I could. I then linked my mother to teleport into my barrier. She was almost face down on her knees now. My focus stayed on Clay and the other may, who had both stopped shooting and were now watching their friend drop to his knees onto the floor. He fell forward, driving the arrow even further into his body. Complete silence surrounded us when my mother told me, 'I can't teleport. "Clay, we need to get out of here. Henry's dead, she killed him. The bag with our ammo is gone. We're done here. We don't have any more bullets. What we have left is what we will need to get out of here and back to the wall. We have to go now!" George told Clay as he kept looking around for the bag. Yeah, good luck with that.

"Where did it go?" Clay asked frantically, and all three of them looked around for it. They were all over the living room and kitchen, trying to find it. It isn't in the house anymore. They are done for; they just don't know it yet.

'While they are still distracted, lower your barrier. I will protect you in mine, I told her, taking another step to cover her. A shot suddenly rang out, and I saw my mother's arm start to bleed. I instantly covered her in my barrier, but I hadn't expected him to notice what we were doing. I blamed myself for not moving faster, but they had been distracted. There had been no other time for us to have done it. I wanted to, but I couldn't. I have to keep the barrier up to protect us all now. I didn't have to say a word to anyone. Cheryl had hit the floor when I brought my mother into the protective dome with us. Cheryl was holding my mother like a child, as my mother immediately collapsed onto the floor. My sisters, Brenna and Luna, were kneeling to check on her.

I was so angry right now. It was no longer challenging to keep the barrier in place. I was already creating another ice arrow as Clay continued to fire his gun at us. I guess he figured that if he got lucky once with hitting my mother, he might get lucky again. He was wrong. His luck had run out. The other man who had been shooting with him started shaking his head. He couldn't believe they lost a team member like that. He began to motion towards the door to Charlie, they were attempting to leave while Clay was distracted.

I couldn't blame them for wanting to leave, but I was not about to allow them to leave after what they had done. That was not going to happen. Clay saw what I was doing, and his eyes grew larger as he stopped shooting to change his magazine. He thought I would hit him with it, but that was not my plan. I locked the door that they were trying to open. When the deadbolt snapped back into place, they both stiffened up. Clay also noticed where they were when he heard the deadbolt lock.

"What the hell are you doing over there? The witch is weak. Her daughter won't be able to hold out much longer. Get back over here and help me finish this," Clay snapped at them.

"No, you can stay behind and finish it. We are leaving. I can't believe we let you talk us into this. You said she had no powers, Clay. She obviously has powers," George motioned toward me as he made his point. When he noticed the ice arrow in my hand, he jerked in surprise. I smiled at him before throwing it at the man beside him. I had to assume that George was not good with a gun, which is why he was the only one unarmed. So, I took out the one who was an actual threat.

They had no time to react, as the second they turned to see why George was so scared, it was already too late. The arrow pierced the man easily, and he dropped his gun in surprise. I had already sealed my barrier back up before anyone could react. Clay was irritated, but I kept my eyes on George. He started to sweat, and then he started begging, "Please let me go. I will never come back again. Just let me leave here. You and Clay can fight it out. I didn't want to come here in the first place, but I got voted down."

"You still came. You still kept them reloaded with bullets in an effort to try to kill us. You are not innocent, and you don't deserve to get away with what you did," I replied.

I didn't want him to try to dodge an arrow, so there was no point in making another one. Clay was furious. He emptied his gun at my barrier in frustration before throwing the gun at it. He bent and picked up his friend's gun. George was pale and slipped the last two magazines out of the pocket of his jeans and said, "This is it, these are the last two magazines, along with whatever's left in Paul's gun."

Clay is no longer firing at will. He seems to have realized what he has done and that his options are slim. "George, go look and see if anyone is outside. If the coast is clear, we will make a run for it," Clay told him while staring at me. "How do you figure we will allow you to leave after you come here and do this?" I asked in amusement.

"I am sure you want us gone too," Clay said as he approached. "Plus, I believe your mother may need some medical attention."

"Don't worry about her. Worry about yourself. Like how you plan on getting out of here with the door locked," I replied. If he only knew how angry I was at him, he would understand that he would never leave the Black Adder pack again.

"We can go out a window, Cara. I will come back another day. I promise you that I will rip this place apart to find you and your mother the next time around. Maybe drop in and check on my sweet Luna at the Blood Moon pack. You never know where I might pop up," Clay said confidently.

"I will know where you are, Clay. If you think you will be able to leave here today, you have lost your mind. I will never allow you to leave," I told him.
