Chapter 104 –
Paxton's
POV
"Who the hell are you speaking to, Emily?" I roared at Lisa's mother. "You and your mate forced me to accept Lisa. I only accepted Lisa to protect Cara. I tried to impregnate Lisa. We have not taken any preventative measures for the last four years. But your daughter cannot provide me with a pup. My wolf, Mace, told me why. I knew there was a problem, but I also knew that it didn't lie with me. Do you want to do the honors, Lisa? Or do you want me to tell them?"
Lisa's face turned red, and she looked at me as if I had offended her. "Don't give me that look. I have nothing else to lose here. Things can't get any worse off than they are right now. My parents and my pack all know what we did. But if you think I am going down alone here today, Lisa, you are sadly mistaken," I told her. I guessed the look on my face had let her know I would indeed out her if she didn't admit it herself."Look, I made a mistake, Paxton. You hadn't committed to me yet and were always watching Cara. I didn't use protection with another guy I was seeing, and I accidentally got pregnant," Lisa started to tell the story when her mother gasped in shock and tried to get her to stop speaking.
"Lisa, whatever it was, is all in the past, honey. You don't need to mention it again. It has no bearing on what is happening here today," Emily said with a stilted laugh. She was embarrassed as she knew exactly how Lisa got in my good graces. She even encouraged it because she was trying to force me to accept Lisa. “If you're reading this on any site other than ob, this content has been stolen! Real fans know the latest updates and exclusive insights are always on ob.. Support original creators and visit the source.” Emily's greatest wish was for Lisa to be the Luna for Kamaria. It only worked out for her because Lisa wouldn't let up on Cara. I am kicking myself for not realizing sooner that Brenna had dealt with Lisa already.
"Oh, it matters, Emily, it matters. I made a deal with Lisa. She could be the Luna, but she had to leave Cara alone. She didn't. She became even worse, letting the power go to her head. My Mom did try to train her, several times, but Lisa didn't want to work. She wouldn't take instruction or listen. So I had to do both jobs. She made it abundantly clear that she didn't want to do the work. She hurt Cara, sending her to the doctor with broken bones every month. I wanted to reject her, but I feared things would worsen for Cara. I will warn you now, Trevor. Lisa is a consummate liar. She is an expert at twisting the truth. She will be coming to you because I know Luna won't allow her to come to Black Moon. You look at Lisa and see an innocent person, but she is far from it. I told her to leave Cara alone, yet the first thing she did was go to her," I growled out.
"I'm not leaving Paxton. My parents can't take losing both their children in one day," Lisa fired back.
"Well, how lovely of you to be willing to stay here for them, Lisa. Or maybe I should say Saint Lisa for being so amenable to doing that. Since when have you ever cared about your older brother? He was ignored while they made sure to care for your every need. It bias they showed was evident. Everyone here knows it, too, Lisa. You have the innocent act down. You hide who you are, but you don't fool me. You haven't fooled Cara, either. She had first-hand knowledge of just how horrible you are. You have to stay here because no one else wants you in their pack. I'm sure that they would have listened to Cara and her sister's opinions on this. Nobody in their right mind would think that you changed. Hell, you drugged me a little over a week ago. You are ruthless, Lisa, absolutely ruthless," I announced loudly, ensuring everyone heard me. "Son, did you honestly plot to kill Beta James?" my father's voice drifted to me. My mother had her arms wrapped around his waist, and they were both waiting for and dreading my answer. They already knew the answer. I had already admitted it before I realized that Saoirse would be so ruthless to the three of us.
"You heard it straight from my mouth; we did plot against him, Dad. I didn't realize that you were here. I would have rather died without you knowing that I had a hand in it. But I will be dying today. So, there is no point in lying about it anymore. We planned it out, and I had Rex carry it out. It had to be done. He refused to allow any of us near his daughters. No matter what our rank was. That was on him for making such a bad decision. His daughter could have been the Luna here if he weren't so fucking stubborn," I ground out in frustration. "If you wanted her so badly, why didn't you come to your mother or me? We could have helped you, son. It is too late now to do so. You knowingly killed innocent members of our pack. You aren't allowed to do what you want, son," my father explained. "Dad, I am not an idiot. But I took a shot because I wanted her. No one knew what we had done. I didn't realize that we were overheard speaking in my office. I was wrong, but don't act like you could have snapped your fingers and fixed it for me. Beta James withdrew his support for her when Cara didn't phase at eighteen. He then just focused on his other two daughters. That was wrong on his part. He left her out there unprotected, just like a sitting duck. Allowing the pack to bully her. Don't lie; you saw it, too, and did nothing. We were all guilty of hurting Cara, but some much more than others," I said, turning around to glare at Lisa.
"You are such an asshole, Paxton. Did you never realize I hurt her because I was jealous? But you couldn't stop yourself, could you? Why couldn't you care about me like you did her? I am just as attractive as she is; why couldn't you give me the same chance? I loved you, Paxton. You were all I ever wanted, yet you never cared for me. Am I so unacceptable that you couldn't give me an honest chance to win your heart?" Lisa cried out and broke into tears.
"Lisa, if you loved me, how come you always cheated on me? You got pregnant by another wolf. How can you stand there and say you loved me if you did that? You cheated more than I did. So stop playing innocent in front of your parents. You are a terrible Luna and an even worse mate," I replied coolly.
Lisa's mouth opened and closer several times before she responded. "He was my mate, Paxton, but I rejected him for you. I wanted to be with you, but the draw to be with him was strong, and you were out of town for training. I have needs, too. I didn't realize how much I would crave him after that. I didn't realize my chances of getting pregnant were much higher with a mate. I knew you wouldn't accept me if I didn't terminate the pregnancy, so I did it to save us. Can't you see that? I gave up my pup, my mate, for you, Paxton. Doesn't that mean anything to you?" "It would have, except we both know the score here, Lisa. You are forgetting that I am done for. I am about to die, and I won't be letting you talk your way out of this one. You don't love me. You never have. You might have found me attractive. You like to have sex with me, but that is it. There were no feelings involved. You wanted to be Luna. You wanted that position. You realize you just admitted to all of us that you met your mate. You carried his baby, yet you cast them both away, all because you wanted to be Luna. Did it ever occur to you that you could have been happy with your mate? Much happier than you were with me, I can assure you. The only thing you would have missed out on was the clothes and the stuff. You have so much stuff, Lisa, but you are not happy," I told her, direct and to the point.
"I did love you, Paxton," Lisa stubbornly replied. I glanced around but saw that even her family didn't believe her.
"You could have been happy, and so could I. Yet you took away our opportunities all because you wanted money and power. Well, you got it, but look at what it cost you," I couldn't control a scoff. "You worked hard to get what you felt you were owed, Lisa. Now look at us, neither of us are happy. We haven't been for a long time. I felt the pain of losing Cara once when they ran away. I loved her, and I wanted her. But I couldn't have her. I went about dealing with it completely wrong. I slept with others to make up for not being able to claim the woman I always wanted. Doing that made Cara like me even less. I even considered stepping down, but I couldn't do that either. I'm an only child, so my hands were tied," I admitted. I was tired of this whole thing. I am done.
"So you are just going to give up because you can't have Cara? You are fucking consistent to the bitter end, aren't you, Paxton? I refuse to feel bad for you. You never cared what you did to me, so why should any of us care about you getting the punishment you deserve? Don't worry, and I will take great care of our pack in your absence," Lisa said as if she were delighted by the turn of events.
"Not going to agree with that, Lisa. I won't allow you to drag the pack down with you. It won't last three more years with you in control. My father can decide who the next Alpha will be, or he can take back over and try for another child. Whatever they decide to do is good with me, but you won't be in charge of it. I, Paxton James, Alpha of the Kamaria pack, reject you, Lisa Phillips, as my chosen mate and Luna of the Kamaria pack. You no longer have a rank or title in my pack," I declared."You fucking jerk. Well, too bad, Paxton. I refuse to accept your rejection. There is nothing that you can do about it now. I can wait you out. I won't be stepping down. I have put up with too much from you not to get all the benefits I deserve. There's nothing anyone can do if you think about it. You can go ahead and deal with him now, Saoirse. He's all yours. He is an admitted killer, and he deserves to die for what he has done. I can't wait to move into my new home. Thanks for building it for me, Paxton," Lisa said with contempt before she started to cackle at how the tables had turned.
