Betrayal At the Altar by Dolores Delia

After leaving the hotel, Rachel Grey drove to the company.
As usual, she arrived at the company and stepped into the elevator without noticing the inconspicuous car following behind her
Hans Grey squinted his eyes inside the car, and a glint of darkness flickered in his gaze.
Previously, he had shown mercy to Rachel, wanting to mend their relationship as a family, so he had refrained from taking drastic
actions. However, he did not expect Rachel to disregard their past connections entirely. Not only did she target him, but she also
targeted the Grey family.
Indeed, she was like a wolf that could never be satisfied, just like her mother.
Since she showed no mercy, it’s no wonder he became heartless]
“Did you get a good look at the woman in front?”
The man sitting in the front passenger seat responded, “I saw her clearly.”
“In the next few days, I want you all to keep a close eye on her and seize any opportunity immediately,” said Hans.
Upon hearing this, a look of hesitation appeared on the man’s face. “Mr. Grey, this is the Johnson Corporation’s territory. It
wouldn’t be wise for us to make a move here.”
“You fool!” Hans coldly rebuked. “Did I tell you to act here? Didn’t I say for you to keep an eye on her for these few days?” He
paused for a moment, leaning back in his seat. “Even tigers take naps. She can’t stay here forever.”
Once they figured out Rachel’s movement patterns, why would they worry about not having an opportunity to strike?! The man in
the passenger seat remained silent, but the indescribable expression on his face revealed his dilemma. Setting aside Rachel’s
esteemed status, their plan couldn’t afford the slightest mistake. If things were to be exposed, their future would be jeopardized
for the rest of their lives.
The key issue lies in the identity of the person. Rachel, the heiress of the Johnson family, the wealthiest family in Seaxas, was
someone they might not have had any opportunity to get close to. It would be an impossible feat to accomplish
On the other side, after Rachel arrived at her office, she received a call from Lucas Jolmson.
His lazy and deep voice came through the phone receiver and entered her ears. “Are you at the office?”

Rachel casually responded, “What’s up?”
“Let’s discuss it when we meet later, Lucas said.
After hanging up the phone, Rachel started to focus on her work at hand.
When Lucas walked in from outside and saw Rachel bowing her head over her desk, he frowned slightly. “I don’t know what
you’re thinking. Instead of enjoying your life as a proper heiress, you insist on working tirelessly in the company.”
With the financial power of the Johnson family, Rachel could easily live a life of indulgence as a carefree heiress. She could rely
on her wealth but chose to rely on her abilities.
Rachel Grey closed the files in her hand and smiled faintly. “I wouldn’t feel at ease just sitting back and enjoying my wealth.”
“If I had the favoritism of my father. I wouldn’t be working so hard,” Lucas said, plopping down on the couch without sitting
properly, resting one hand on the back of the chair. “There have been developments on Mr. Bowes’ side. Do you want to go and
take a look?”
Upon hearing this, a hint of hesitation flashed in Rachel’s eyes.
In the past, when she was involved in the drug trial, she had no concerns. It was not that she did not find anyone worth clinging
onto in this world, but rather that she felt it was better to leave things to fate.
-According to the doctor, she could only live up to 18 years old. Every day she lived beyond that felt like a gift from God.
Therefore, she did not care about any potential side effects or consequences when she was undergoing the medication trial. In
her eyes, every day she had lived beyond her expected lifespan was a day gifted by God.
But now things were different.
She yearned to find a cure, yet she also feared that an accident during the trial process would leave her unable to wake up
again.
She worried about being separated from David, the person she cared about deeply, in life and death.
Lucas seemed to sense the hesitation in Rachel’s heart and did not rush to persuade her.
His own heart was also filled with hesitation and conflict.

He still carried the lingering fear from the incident when Rachel Grey took the medicine hastily, causing an unexpected accident.
While he longed to develop a drug that could suppress the toxins in Rachel’s body, he was also worried about any unforeseen
incidents during the testing process.
Both of them remained silent, and a heavy silence filled the office.
After an unknown amount of time passed, Rachel finally said. “Let’s go.”
Upon hearing her words, Lucas lifted his gaze and looked at her, “Have you really made up your mind?”
“What then?” Rachel’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Besides me taking matters into my own hands, do we have any other
options?”
Lucas lowered his brows, concealing his emotions, and murmured, “I wouldn’t mind taking your place.”
But they both knew it could not be replaced by anyone’s desire alone.
He knew it, and Rachel knew it too.
As they drove to the research institute, they found Ethan Bowes leisurely sipping his coffee with his legs crossed.
Upon seeing Lucas bringing Rachel along. Ethan’s eyes flickered with surprise. He quickly set down his cup and asked, “Why did
you bring Rae-Rae here?”
“I brought her to see your research achievements,” Lucas replied, scanning the surroundings and noticing an unusually empty
atmosphere in the research institute. “Where are the others? Did they leave early to celebrate?”
“They went on a team-building outing.” Ethan said, grabbing Rachel’s arm and walking towards the workstation. He looked at
Rachel eagerly as if presenting a treasure. “Take a look. This is the result of my recent research.”
Rachel Grey’s eyebrows raised slightly. “So, what is your research achievement?”
Tve deciphered the third substance!” With one hand on his waist and the other patting his chest, Ethan was enthusiastic. He
spoke in a high-spirited tone, “After my relentless effort for 3,826 days, I finally deciphered the third substance. I can confidently
claim to be the first person in history to achieve this!”

Lucas maintained a nonchalant expression. “So, you spent over 40 million dollars to accomplish this task?”
“What do you mean just to accomplish this one task?” Ethan, caught up in his passionate emotions, snapped back, and looked at
Lucas with indignation. “Do you think deciphering the third substance is easy? Do you know how many days and nights I’ve
spent on it? Can’t you see it has turned my hair and beard white!”
Lucas Johnson glanced at him faintly, his expression hinting at sarcasm. “Whose fault is it that you insisted on dyeing your hair
white?”
Ethan was shocked.
“You brat, who do you think you’re talking to?” He angrily approached, standing on a stool to loom over him. “Apologize to me
immediately, or believe me, you won’t like the consequences.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow slightly, clearly displaying a confident and fearless demeanor. “If you dare to poison me, I’ll cut off your
funding.”
Ethan Bowes was caught off-guarded.
When benefiting from others, one tended to be more accommodating and forgiving, even if the other person had flaws or made
mistakes.
He gritted his teeth secretly and suddenly leaned on Rachel’s shoulder with a tearful expressión. “Rae-Rac, you have to stand up
for me. I’m a Medical Immortal, but I’m trapped in this small place and can’t see the sun all day long. I’ve been accompanying
this equipment day and night for research, but you cut off my funding. These years have been a total waste.”
Rachel was left dumbfounded.
She looked at Lucas with a resentful gaze, silently expressing, “Why did you provoke this drama king for no reason?” Lucas
shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he accepted the blame.
