Chapter 36
Sarah Williams – POV
My mind was working in overdrive. I knew that the rogue was not going on a killing spree for no apparent reason. But what if whatever Valerie was about to tell me was something so important that would just cause more deaths? “I can not promise you that I would not tell this to anyone, Valerie. If this situation causes a threat to the pack, then I am bound to tell the higher–ranking officials about this.” I said, and her eyebrows frowned in concentration while I was praying that she would tell me the true reason behind all these murders.
“Fine, but unless there is any real threat because of this rogue, then you are not supposed to tell this to anyone,” she asked me, and I nodded my head. I think I can promise her this
much.
“Well, there is this very old legend that promises the most powerful gift to a werewolf. I don’t know exactly what it is. But, it states that whoever possesses it, will possess the entire werewolf race.” she explained, and she glanced at her daughter.
“But, what does it have to do with you and the two other people who were murdered?”
“Well, to find that gift, you first need to locate where it is hidden, and you need the key to open that box,” she said, and that is when something crossed my mind. I looked at Valerie with my eyes as wide as saucers.
“You have the map with you?” I asked shocked, but she shook her head.

“I have the key. But I have no idea who had the map. But from the murders, I think one of them must have had the map, and the other one must have had the gem.” she said and slowly got up from the floor and gave me Prim, whom I gently took in my hand, and Valerie soon left the room. A few minutes later, she came back into the living room with a battered old wooden box, which was the size of a small jewelry box. “My mother gave this to me just before she died and told me to keep this a secret and protect it with my life.” Jasmine handed me the box, and I turned the box around in my hand before I opened the box to see a small copper key.
“How did your mother get this?” I asked Valerie, and she shuddered her shoulder.
“She just told me that a woman gave this to her and asked her to protect it. That is all.” Valerie said, and I looked at the key again. The murders and this mystery have become all confusing. I closed the box and handed it over to her.
“What does the gem have to do with all this?”
“I don’t know. Maybe, it opens another door or something.” She said shuddering her shoulder.
“Thank you for sharing this information with me, Valerie,” I said, and she nodded her head, just then, my phone rang, it was Noah.
“I guess, I should make a move now,” I said and got up from the floor and slowly handed Primrose back to her mother.
“Do come again,” Valerie said, and I nodded my head, and I left her house. On my way back to the pack house, I called Noah again, and he picked up the phone on the second ring.

“I am on my way to the pack house to my office. So, how are you? Were you able to complete the work that you went for?” I asked him while I opened the door and entered the house. Which was eerily quiet.
“We are still asking around everyone who knew about that man. But no one is telling us anything that sounds unusual.” Noah explained while all my instincts were urging me to tell him what I exactly found out from Jasmine, but I kept my mouth shut. I quickly made my way upstairs and went into my office to see that there was already a pile of files placed on my table with a sticky note pasted on the top file asking me what to do with them. I placed my handbag on the floor and took a seat on my chair.
“I think you are just going on a wild goose chase instead of trying to track that rogue,” I told him, and he hummed, but I know that he is powerless in this situation.
“I have the same feeling too. But, I know that beta Alan wouldn’t have sent me to gather information about this man for no reason. He is not considered one of the most intelligent and witty betas among all the werewolves for no reason.” Noah said, and that is when I realized something.
“Maybe, he purposely send you out on a wild goose chase because he got to know about our cottage arrangement,” I said, and I heard some shuffling before everything stopped.
“Well, what is he going to gain by that because you are anyway going to stay at our cottage even if I am not there,” he said, and this time I remained quiet, I know that I will have to inform Noah about what happened.

“Um, about that. There has been another attack on the pack by the rogue…” I said.
“Yeah, Dimitri told me about it this morning. But, I heard that the woman was saved.” Noah explained while I was meddling with the pen that was on my desk.
“Oh, so you know who saved her too?”
“No, Dimitri told me that Beta Alan didn’t tell him about it since he was in a hurry to attend a meeting with Alpha Blaze,” Noah explained, and I let out a tired sigh. Zachary must have purposely left that out, expecting me to tell them everything that happened.
“Well, I don’t think you should wait till Beta Alan tells you who it is.”
“Why is that? Do you know who it was?”
“I was the person who saved Valerie from getting murdered.” I heard something break in the background, and I know that Noah was beyond livid at the moment, without wasting any more time, I told him everything that happened and where I am currently staying too.
“Are you nuts, Sarah? You should have fucking informed someone before going behind that rogue.” Noah yelled at me while I remained quiet, I know that whatever I tell him now. would not matter.
“I know that was a stupid decision. But, I am safe now, right?” I asked him, but I know that he wasn’t satisfied, but he let it go.
“I will try my best to come back as soon as I can,” he said, and before I could say my goodbyes, he cut the line.
