Sarah Williams – POV

A genuine smile appeared on Mr.Alan’s face, and he nodded his head before he turned round to leave. “Mr.Alan,” he turned around to look at me again. I know that I will never be able to rest till I get the answer to this question, so without a second thought, I asked him what was on my mind. “What about the woman that you had seen for beta Alan?” I asked him, and this time, a familiar smirk appeared on his face.

“Miss. Williams, you should know that I am a man who has a very deep respect for the mate bond. Now that I know my son has already found his second chance mate, what is the use of me forcing him to mate with another woman, huh?” he asked me, and this made my heart at ease. At least, I don’t have to fight with another woman for my mate. “To tell you the truth, I did not find another woman for Zachary. The girl in the photo is the daughter of one of our friends, and she is already mated, and she has two children.” this information brought a smile to my face, and I nodded my head.

“Thank you, Mr.Alan.”

“I will see you again soon, dear,” he said and patted my shoulder before he soon got into his car and left the place. Once the car was out of sight, I made my way to my office again. Beta Alan’s room was wide open, and his back was facing me while he was talking to someone over the phone.

“…dead?”

“Which side of our border?” his conversation piqued my interest, and I halted in my steps and listened in to his conversation. His

back muscles looked tensed and from the constant tapping of his finger on the wooden desk, I know that something wrong must have happened.

“I will come there as soon as possible,” he said before he hung up. and abruptly turned around.

“Who is dead?” the question came out of my mouth before I could stop myself. Beta Alan’s eyes widened in shock upon seeing me, but he soon composed his reaction and walked towards me, when. he was about to walk past me, I stepped in front of him.

“Who is dead? Did that same rogue kill another pack member?” he stared at me in suspicion, and for a couple of moments, none of us spoke, and at last, he let out a tired sigh.

“This time, it is a man, probably in his late thirties, and I don’t think. it is the rogue this time.” beta Alan answered and gently pushed me aside and walked into the hallway.

“Wait! What do you mean it is not the rouge?” I asked him and jogged beside him, trying to match his fast pace. He turned around once and glared at me before he continued to ignore me. When we left the pack house, he increased his pace and went into the forest while I followed right behind him. “Beta Alan!” I yelled, which made him come to an abrupt stop, and I collided with his large frame and fell to the ground.

“Would you stop pestering me with all your questions and go back to the pack house?” he said irritated, and I send him one of my death glares.

“If you answer my questions, then I wouldn’t come pestering you?” I retorted, and for this, he gave me a sinister smile. He walked closer to me and bend down till our faces were just inches away from each other.

“You are not my mate, nor my beta female, so why would I answer your questions?”

“Because I am also a member of this pack,” I replied, and for this, he laughed and shook his head.

“You are living in this pack as a probationary member. Until you prove yourself, you can never be a part of this pack. So, stop trying to poke your nose where it is not needed.” he sneered before he straightened his back and soon left.

Well, did he think that I will be scared when he talks to me that way?

I got up from the floor and dusted my hands and my clothes, and followed beta Alan’s smell. The deeper I walked into the forest, the more confusing the routes became. If it wasn’t for his scent, I would have been long lost in these woods. At last, I finally made it to the border, but I soon came to a stop just a few meters away from all the warriors.

“Are you sure it is not a werewolf?” beta Alan interrogated a warrior, and I saw him shake his head.

“He was a werewolf, but he didn’t attack in his wolf form. But we were not able to see his face.” this angered beta Alan, and he sneered at the warrior.

“What do you mean by that? You were the person here when this happened, right?”

“Yes, beta, but the man was wearing a black face mask, and he was wearing a worn–out green shirt. Before I could catch him, he crossed the border and shifted into his wolf, and ran away.” I felt a chill run down my spine when the warrior told beta Alan about what the rogue looked like.

“Beta Alan, we also found something else next to the corpse.” the warrior said and handed over a brown envelope. The beta gave it a curious look before he tore open the envelope and took a white sheet, and read its content.

“What sort of rubbish is this? Does this person think that we would willingly give him one of our pack members?” beta Alan roared, his face red while his hands were trembling in anger.

“Take this werewolf to the hospital and inform his family about what happened.” after giving more instructions, beta Alan stormed away from that place. From the way, his facial expression instantly changed into a rage, I know that the paper must contain

something more than just a demand, and the only way to know that is to read that letter myself.
