Beta Xavier Costa.

Chapter 45

Beta Xavier Costa - POV

I was holding the phone so tight, which made the crack on the screen widen, and that was when I let it go. All this time, I thought that one of my enemies was responsible for this accident, but looks like it was someone that Eleanor knew.

I quickly took out my phone and dialed Marquez's number. The phone rang for a long time when he finally picked it up. “Is she awake?” that was the first question he asked me.

“No, she is still the same. But I called you to ask a favor.” I said.

“What is it?”

“I want you to track a number and tell me from where the call came from.”

“Okay, you text me the phone number, and I will get back to you in a while,” Marquez answered.

“Sure,” I said and then disconnected the call. After sending the number to him, I patiently waited till he called me back. It was not easy to wait. An hour passed by, and I was starting to lose hope, when I was about to go and find Marquez, my phone began to ring.

“Hello?”

“Hey, I tried to trace the number multiple times. But it was like that number was nowhere in the world.”

“What do you mean?”

“It's a dead end, Xavier,” he said, and the line was quiet again. “Was that a threatening call, Xavier?”

“A message, it was a message, and it was sent to Eleanor.”

Eleanor Amato - POV

“Ellie?” I heard Erica’s voice, but I felt like we were miles apart. “Ellie, wake up.”

“Erica?” I felt like I was trapped somewhere, and everywhere I looked, it was pitch black. “Erica, where are we?”

“We are in your subconscious mind, Ellie.”

“Are we trapped?”

“I don't know, I just gained consciousness,” she answered. I tried to reach out to something or move my hand, but it was like I was not in control of my body.

“How can I gain my senses back?” I asked her while looking around. The fear within me started to slowly build while the darkness was consuming my mind.

“Stay calm, Ellie. We can figure a way out.” Erica consoled me, but I knew that I could not do that. I have always been afraid of the dark, and this feeling of dread and emptiness was only adding fuel to the fire.

Suddenly, I felt like I was falling, I didn't have anything to hold onto, and this made me scream. I screamed my lungs out and abruptly opened my eyes. “Argh!” I heard the hysterical scream of a woman ringing in my ear.

“Eleanor, calm down.” I heard someone say, and that was when I realized that the scream was coming from me. I frantically looked around the surroundings and saw that I was in a hospital room. Xavier was standing near the doorway held by two warriors, but he looked distressed. “Eleanor?” I peeled my eyes away from him and looked at the doctor.

“What happened to me?” I asked the doctor, sounding confused.

Why am I even in the hospital?

“Don't you remember what happened to you?” she asked me with a frown, and this made me concentrate on the last thing that I remembered. Well, the last thing I remember was being in Eliza’s room after I broke my arm.

I looked down at my arm to see that it had completely healed. “You were in a car accident.” the doctor slowly explained while I tried my best to remember that, and that was when I remembered everything that happened.

“My god! A trailer crashed head-on.” I exclaimed, and I saw a relieved look on the doctor’s face.

“Yes, and you sustained quite a lot of injuries,” she said, and that was when I looked down at my body. There were no bandages or plasters, instead, I was only left with the faint scars from where they had stitched me up.

“You are hiding something from me,” I mumbled as I looked up at the doctor while I saw Xavier walking to my side.

“Eleanor, you had lost a significant amount of blood, and you slipped into a coma.” the doctor explained. My eyes widened in shock and surprise.

I was in a coma.

I turned my attention toward Xavier, and that was when I properly looked at him. A small beard had grown on his face, and there were eyebags under his eyes. His clothes looked wrinkled like he had been wearing them for a very long time.

“How long was in a coma?” I asked out loud while I silently prayed that it shouldn't be for years. Because I don't think I can live with the fact that I have lost a whole year or two in my life.

“About a week.” the doctor said.

“A week! That is all?” I asked her, and she nodded her head.

“It is very rare for werewolves to be in a coma for more than a month, Eleanor,” she explained, and I nodded my head. “Okay, so can I check you over to make sure that everything is properly healed?” she asked me, and I nodded my head. After she was done with an examination, the doctor and all the nurses left the room, leaving me alone with Xavier.

“I am sorry,” Xavier spoke after a while.

“What are you apologizing for?” I asked him, confused.

“It was because of my carelessness you had to go through this pain. I shouldn't have yelled at you.”

“And I shouldn't have doubted you,” I said.

“I guess we are even now,” Xavier asked me, and I shrugged my shoulder.

“Maybe, anyway, do you know who tried to kill us?” I asked him, and I saw a dark look cross his face.

“No, but I have a feeling that I will be able to catch that person soon,” he answered, and I nodded my head. “Xavier?”

“Yes?”

“Can we go home? I don't feel comfortable staying in this place anymore.” I asked him, and I saw something in his eyes, but that feeling was soon gone, and he nodded his head.
