Beta Xavier Costa.

Chapter 39

Eleanor Amato - POV

After dinner, everyone stayed back for drinks till it was past two when everyone slowly walked out of the house. “You go and sleep, Eleanor. I will take care of this.” Mom said, trying to push me away, but I shook my head.

“There are still so many plates to wash. I will do this and then go.” I told her, but she shook her head.

“I can take care of this, Eleanor. You go and have some rest. You have work tomorrow.” Mom insisted, so I nodded my head and went up to Xavier’s room. By the time I came to the room, Xavier was already fast asleep, so after doing my nightly routine, I made my way to the bed and fell asleep.

The next day morning, I woke up extra early and headed to the bakery. “Good morning, Mrs. Tanner.” I greeted her as I walked into the bakery. She turned around and greeted me back with a bright smile on her face.

“Good morning, sweetheart. So are you here to bake the cake for the new couple?” she asked me, and I nodded my head.

“Where is Ivan, Mrs. Tanner?” I asked her because he would normally be here at the bakery at this time.

“He said he has some pack work outside of the pack, so he left early this morning,” she answered, and this seemed strange.

What is going on with him?

I thanked her before I made my way into the kitchen and started my work.

Beta Xavier Costa - POV

I pushed the papers from my desk in frustration before I got up and looked out of the window to calm myself down.

How can the rogues have disappeared without a trace?

Knock knock.

“What is it!” I yelled out when I heard the door open. I turned around to see one of my trackers walk into my office.

“Beta Costa, the last team of trackers just came back to the pack,” he informed me as I walked towards the mini bar, that I had in my office, and poured myself a drink.

“Did they find anything?”

“Yes, Beta Costa.” this news made me turn around to look at him. We have been searching for a clue for days, and now, the thought of even finding something that could help us find the girl made my hopes lift a little higher.

“What is it?” I asked him, and he walked toward me with a plastic bag in his hand and placed it on my desk. I placed my drink on the table and opened the bag. A small piece of fabric was inside, it looked like it was torn from a dress.

“This has the scent of the girl that went missing, Beta Costa.”

“This is a good lead. So now we know we are on the right path, right?”

“That is the problem. It was by the river. When we crossed the river, it was like they vanished into thin air. Their scent was nowhere to be found.” he said.

Shit!

“Do…

Ping.

I took my phone to see that I had got a message from Elizabeth. “You can leave. I will see what can be done.” I told the tracker. He bowed at me before he walked out of my office.

I found out the location of the girl you are looking for. I will mail it to you soon.

Elizabeth.

Well, at least I have got a lead now.

Eleanor Amato - POV

I was walking towards the pack house when I saw Ivan’s car pull up in the parking lot. “Ivan!” I yelled, which made him turn around to look at me. I waved at him before I walked towards him. “Where were you?” I asked him.

“I went to meet a friend in the human town.,” he answered, and this made a frown appear on my face. Just as a breeze blew past us, I got a whiff of a foreign scent from him. And it belonged to a rogue.

“But your mother said you went out on pack business.”

“Yeah, I had some pack work, and later, I met a friend of mine,” he said, but there was a tremble in his voice, which made my suspicion only increase.

“Are you hiding something from me, Ivan?” I asked him, but he shook his head, and a nervous smile appeared on his face.

“Forget about that, what are you doing now?” he asked me.

“Nothing, I was just heading to my office to finish some paperwork.”

“Great, would you be able to spare some time to have coffee with me now?” he asked me, and this made me arch an eyebrow at him. “At the pack house.”

“Sure,” I responded, and both of us walked into the pack house.

As we entered the kitchen, Ivan got us both a steaming cup of cappuccino each, and we took a seat outside in the garden. “How are things between you and Beta Costa?”

“Nothing new to say, but he did stop sleeping with Jade,” I said before an awkward silence engulfed the both of us again. Something seriously felt off with Ivan. He avoided eye contact with me, and his conversations felt forced.

I hope he is not behind all the rogue attacks.

“Excuse me.” both Ivan and I looked up to see the man I saw a few days ago. He was the omega. “Shall I take the cups?” he asked, and I nodded my head. Just as he walked away, I turned around to face Ivan to see him having an angry look on his face.

“Why are you glaring at that poor man?”

“Nothing, I was just wondering how he got into cleaning duties inside the pack,” he answered, and this made me confused.

“He is an omega, so he is bound to do all the chores, right?” I asked him, but he only nodded his head at me. We continued talking about other things when it was finally time for us to leave.

“I will see you around, Ellie,” Ivan said as he pulled me into a hug. I nodded my head and stepped away.
