Chapter 37
Eleanor Amato - POV
“A rogue crossed our border, and when I started chasing it, we stepped out of the no-man’s territory, but then I lost track of it,” Ivan answered, but something felt odd about it.
Ivan was one of the fastest runners in this pack, so how is it possible for him to lose the rogue?
“Oh,” that was all I was able to say.
"So, are you done with your run? He asked me, but I shook my head.
“I still have one more perimeter cover.”
“Shall I accompany you?” he mind linked me, but I shook my wolf head. I think I need more time alone with myself before I can head home and face Xavier. “Okay, I will see you around then,” he said, and then, he started running back into the pack.
My eyes were glued to the beautiful sunset in front of me, which left me mesmerized, so I decided to wait there a little longer. Once the sun had vanished from my view, I continued my patrol. The forest was gradually losing its light, but I didn't mind the darkness because, for some reason, it comforted me.
I had been on patrol for nearly two hours now, and I knew that it was time for me to leave. I started walking in the dark forest when I heard a branch break, which made me halt in my way while my ears peeked up. “What is going on?” I asked Erica.
“Let me check,” she said as she sniffed the air. There was nothing out of the ordinary, and when we were about to leave, the scent of rotten eggs and grease made the fur in my body stand up.
Rogues?
And they were extremely close to our border. I know this is one of the most stupid decisions of my life, but I decided to move closer to see what was happening. I hid behind a bush and peeped out to see two men standing there with all their naked glory. “She would kill us if we go with this news right now.” one of them spoke.
“What are we supposed to do? He specifically told us not to attack the pack yet.”
“But don't you think we are wasting our time?”
“We are, but you know madam is madly in love with him, and she will not do anything that he doesn't want.” one of them growled, sounding angry.
“Yeah, right, and she is blinded in love. Because she cannot see how he is surrounded by the luxury and safety of the Full Moon pack while we have to fight to survive in this god-forsaken forest.”
“Patience is key. That is what he used to blabber. Let's wait and see what to do.” their voices started fading away from me when I finally saw them cross the border and shift into wolves before they ran away.
The entire conversation sounded bizarre to me, but I did get something out of it. The rogues are planning to attack the pack, and someone inside the pack is helping.
“Can it be Ivan?” Erica asked me, and this made my eyes widen in shock.
If it was some other circumstance, I wouldn't have paid heed to Erica’s comment, but after seeing him walk back into the pack from the no-man's territory, and then, refuse to give me a proper answer.
I don't think I can trust him completely now.
“Are we going to report him to Xavier?”
“We cannot report him without any solid evidence, Erica.”
“What are we going to do then?”
“For now, we will inform Samuel about this, and we will have a closer watch on Ivan,” I told her, and she nodded her head. After glancing at my surroundings one last time, I ran back home. When I reached the tree where I kept my clothes, I noticed that they were missing.
Shit! Who took my clothes?
I looked around, but I couldn't see anyone, and it was already pitch dark right now. “Let's just go home and then shift,” Erica suggested so that is what I did.
With a lot of difficulties, I managed to open the door using my paw, and I slowly walked inside. The house was eerily quiet, which meant no one was in there.
Thank god.
I walked upstairs, and when I reached Xavier’s room, I opened the door with my paw again and entered. I scanned my surroundings to see that he was not there, so I closed my eyes and shifted back to my human form, landing on all fours.
I got up from the floor, stretched my back, and started walking towards the bathroom. “…I will come to see…” my heart nearly stopped beating when I abruptly turned around to see Xavier standing near the doorway. His eyes were glued to my naked form. They slowly moved up my body when they finally connected with my eyes, making me gasp.
Shit!
I frantically looked around before I sprinted to the washroom and banged the door close behind me. “I will call you back later.” I heard him say.
“Eleanor,”
“I am sorry, I didn't know you were here,” I said out loud.
“What happened to your clothes?”
“I don't know. When I came back from my run, I noticed that it was missing. I am sorry for coming in like this. It won't happen again.” I said and hoped that he wasn't mad at me or even thinking the worst about me.
He already thinks I am slut, but I guess I might have just confirmed his accusations. I didn't hear a word from him, but I knew that he was still in the room. “Get ready and come downstairs. We are having a family dinner.” Xavier said before I heard his footsteps fade away.
Letting out the breath I was holding, I slid down the door. Today definitely took me in a whirlwind of emotions while I found a lot of things.
Pull yourself together, Eleanor. I know Xavier is bound to throw insults at you, but it is nothing new.
