Beta Xavier Costa.

Chapter 30

Eleanor Amato - POV

I froze near the doorway when I noticed that Xavier was in the kitchen. Why couldn't he just go upstairs and sleep? I looked down at his plate to see that he had only taken a few bites from his lasagna, but it looked different. “Your lasagna looks different,” I said it out loud.

Shit! Why couldn't I just keep my mouth shut?

“It's because I have added extra cheese to it.” he nonchalantly replied before he continued eating his food.

Of course, he likes it with more cheese.

I did not question him further, instead, I walked to the stove and placed a pot of water to heat up while I took a cup and placed a teabag in it. “What is that?” Xavier asked me, which made me turn around to look at him.

“Peach tea, do you want some?” I asked him and mentally facepalmed myself. Why am I being nice to him?

“Okay,” he mumbled before he turned around to look at his food. I poured extra water into the pan, took out another teacup, and placed the teabag inside it. While the water was heating up, I saw Xavier get up from his place walk to the sink, and start washing his dish.

Well, the sooner I give him his tea, the faster I can leave this place.

The water was boiling right now, so I turned off the stove poured the hot water into the cups, and gave it a little stir. I didn't realize Xavier was behind me till I felt his warmth radiating in my back. “Where were you?” he whispered, and this sent a shiver down my spine.

“I was on patrol,” I told him. “Doing my duty,” I added to let him know that this was part of my beta female duty.

“It smells like you were not in patrol with Marquez.”

“No, Ivan and I were on patrol,” I answered because I knew there was no point in lying, this would only turn into a bigger problem later.

“But I thought you were only supposed to be on patrol with either me or Marquez?” Xavier asked me, sounding irritated right now. I placed the spoon on the countertop and turned around to face him.

“What is your problem now, Xavier.”

“My problem is you spending too much time with him,” he answered while his eyes grew a few shades darker. I tried to look deeper into green eyes to extract the emotion that was brewing inside him, but it was like a blanket was placed, making it impossible.

“Why do you sound jealous, Xavier? I mean, you do not regard me as your mate, so I don't think you should start to develop feelings towards me.”

“I am not developing any sort of feelings towards you, Eleanor. I don't want my reputation spoilt with you trying to flirt with other men in my pack.” he spat out, and I felt a hole burnt through my heart.

“Don't worry, I am not like Jade, who spreads her leg wide open to any male that comes near her.” I sneered, but it looked like he was not satisfied with my answer. He stepped closer towards me, making me take a step back only to be trapped between the countertop and him. When I was about to sidestep and move aside, he placed both his hands on either side of me, successfully, trapping me inside.

“If you want to prove your point, then stop talking and seeing Ivan.” he challenged, and this made me glare at him. Ivan is the only friend who talks to me without any sort of hatred towards me, and I don't think I can just throw that out of the window.

“I don't want to prove myself to you, Xavier. I know my limits, and I will not cross them.” I said, and this made him shake his head.

“Eleanor…”

“Xavy, I…” we heard Mom’s voice, and our eyes winded. I expected Xavier to step back and move away from me, but instead, he did the complete opposite. He closed the little distance between us, leaned forward, and captured my lips in the most sensual and hungry kiss that I had ever experienced.

My mind was telling me to push him away, but my heart loved the way his lips felt on mine, so I closed my eyes and just lost myself in the moment. My hands made their way to the nape of his neck while his hands wrapped themselves around my waist. Xavier lightly bit my lips, asking for entrance, and I gladly permitted that. Our tongues started fighting for dominance, but Xavier did have the upper hand in the end.

The sparks that ignited everywhere our bodies touched made me moan out in pleasure. I have never experienced this kind of pleasure before, and a tiny part of me doesn't want it to stop either. “Xavy, I want to… oh…um…I guess, have come at the wrong time.” I heard Mom talking to herself before her footsteps faded away.

As soon as we heard her room door close, Xavier pulled away from me and stared into my eyes. “It was…”

“A mistake. I know. You did that so that your mom would not be suspicious.” I finished his sentences, which made his eyes widen in surprise, but he quickly covered it.

“And…”

“We will not talk about it. I know the drill, Xavier. You don't have to remind me every single time.” I told him as I turned around and took the cups and handed him one before I left the kitchen with mine. I walked upstairs and into Xavier’s room while controlling the tears that were threatening to spill out.

No, I will not cry over someone who doesn't care about me at all.

Even though I consoled myself, one treacherous tear slipped from my eye and rolled down my cheeks. It would always be hard to be constantly rejected by your mate, and I don't know how long I will be able to take it.
