Chapter 27
Eleanor Amato - POV
My heart and mind were in constant conflict right now. I didn't know if I should tell her what was going on between Xavier and me. Would that cause a ripple in their relationship? My lips trembled while I felt my throat tightening. “Why aren't you speaking, Eleanor?” Mrs.Costa asked me as she came and took a seat next to me and placed her hand on top of mine. “Xavier is my son, but you are his mate. The woman destined by the moon goddess.”
“I don't want to be the reason that you get angry at Xavier, Mrs.Costa,” I mumbled, but she shook her head and gently wiped away the stray tears from my cheeks.
“I would never ask him about this, Eleanor. But you should tell me what is going on between the two of you so that I can at least try to help before it goes too far,” she said.
I know I shouldn't tell her. I should keep my mouth shut.
“We have a contract mating bond.” before my mind could process the words, it spilled from my mouth. My eyes widened in shock, and I quickly took my hand away from hers. She had a neutral look on her face, and this only made my heartbeat increase every second. A tense silence enveloped us while I started bouncing my leg.
“I should have thought he would have done something like that.” Mrs.Costa finally spoke, breaking the silence. “I will not let you leave, Eleanor.”
“But… but I don't think you can do anything about that, Mrs.Costa. Xavier has already made up his mind and…”
“I know, but the mate bond will only get stronger with each passing day, and he will have no choice but to accept you,” she said, and I nodded my head. I am also hoping for that same miracle.
“Why do you like me?” I asked her out of the blue, and this made a soft smile appear on her face.
“You are different. I can see the innocence in your eyes, and you are not trying to fake anything. I know you would be the perfect fit for my son, Eleanor.”
“Thank you, Mrs.Costa. But please don't tell Xavier I told you about this.” I pledged with my eyes, and even though she looked hesitant, she nodded her head.
“I will not confront him about this, but I will make him realize what he is missing,” she said with determination, right then, my phone buzzed, and I looked down to see that I was ten minutes late for my appointment.
“I have a meeting to attend. I will see you later?” I asked her, and she nodded her head. I got up from my place and walked towards the door.
“Eleanor,” I turned around to see her. “Call me mom. You are part of the Costa family now,” she said, and I nodded my head as I walked back to Xavier’s room. After grabbing my handbag and shoes, I left the house on my way to the pack house.
My day passed by in a breeze with three meetings and after I was done, I made my way to the pack hospital. As soon as I stepped into the maternity department, I saw Holly walking towards me. “Welcome to the pack, Miss.Amato.” Holly said as she handed me a small bouquet of fresh flowers.
“I was in the pack for a few days now, Holly,” I told her as I accepted her gift.
“True, but we all felt the connection. Alpha Derek has accepted you into this pack,” she answered, and I nodded my head. “Shall we go and see the new mom?”
“Of course, that is why I am here,” I told her, and she led me towards the room. When we entered, I saw the woman I saw the other day, but now she had her bundle of joy in her hands.
“Miss. Amato, I am sorry we couldn't properly meet that day.” the mother apologized, but I shook my head.
“Don't apologize for that. I know you must have been in a lot of pain that day.”
“Thank you for understanding.”
“What is your name?”
“I am Jasmin,” she answered.
“It's nice meeting you, Jasmin. Are you excited about the naming ceremony?” I asked her with a smile on my face, and she nodded her head. “Okay, do you have anything particular that you want?” I asked her as I took a seat on the chair that was next to her bed.
“I don't have much expectations, Miss. Amato. But it would be nice if I could have a small cake for my daughter.” she answered, and I nodded my head.
“I think that can be arranged,” I told her, and finally got up, walked closer to her, and looked down at the baby.
“She looks just like you,” I commented, and this made Avery’s eyes twinkle with joy.
“Yes, but she definitely has her father’s eye color.”
“Take some rest, Jasmin. I will see you at the ceremony.” I told her and she nodded her head while I walked out of there. This is the first time I have heard of a naming ceremony slash initiation ceremony in my life, and I have no clue what I should be doing.
“Did all the medicine stocks arrive, Holly?” I asked as I started walking towards the exit.
“Yes, Miss.Amato.”
“Great, I will see you later then,” I told her, and she nodded her head before I walked out of the pack hospital on my way to meet Samuel. As I passed by the training ground, I came to a halt, when I saw that Xavier was in a heated fight with another warrior while they were surrounded by the rest of the men.
Each punch and kick that Xavier delivered looked so powerful and deadly, which made me wince every time the warrior fell to the ground.
“He was not this ruthless yesterday.” I looked to my side to see Marquez standing beside me.
“Don't you think you should stop that?” I asked him, and I heard him let out an exhausted sigh.
“He doesn't listen to anyone, Eleanor.”
