Chapter Benson 36
Chapter 36 Rose Promise
Sunday’s sunlight streamed through the restaurant’s floor–to–ceiling windows, casting at warm glow on Marcus and Yvonne, adding a cozy atmosphere to their date.
Marcus stood at the restaurant entrance, holding a large bouquet of bright roses, the Princess de Monaco variety, with petals as delicate as a young girl’s cheeks.
Yvonne was immediately touched by this unexpected romantic surprise as soon as she walked in
“Thank you,” Yvonne said, accepting the flowers and smiling at Marcus. Her smile was as warm and bright as the spring sun.
“Do you always have to give me flowers every time we meet?” she asked playfully. “Absolutely, the sense of ceremony must be in place. After all, I’m about to become your official boyfriend,” Marcus chuckled, his eyes filled with anticipation and happiness.
Though his words were playful, his actions showed his respect and appreciation for Yvonne
Marcus’s cautious behavior made Yvonne feel a pang of sadness. She knew he was waiting for the right moment, waiting for her to be fully ready.
“A few more days, and we’ll hold hands,” Yvonne said softly, her voice filled with determination and hope. Once the divorce was finalized, everything would be different. Hearing this, Marcus couldn’t help but gently rub Yvonne’s face. “How are you so wonderful?” His touch was tender and affectionate, as if he were handling a precious
treasure.
Entering the private room, the dishes were already served, filling the air with delicious aromas. Yvonne started eating, while Marcus rested his chin on his hand, watching her intently as if he couldn’t get enough of her.
“Aren’t you eating?” Yvonne asked curiously
“I’m afraid you’ll run away. I can’t believe this is real
Marcus said, his voice tinged with a bit of uncertainty and longing. He never thought Yvonne would actually want to start something with him.
“Yvonne, why do you trust me?” Marcus asked seriously, his eyes filled with curiosity.
“Do you believe I’m serious?” Yvonne asked back, her gaze firm and sincere.
Marcus nodded. “Yes, when I asked if you believed me, you said yes without hesitation. If it were my dad, he’d definitely say he didn’t trust me.”
Yvonne put down her chopsticks and looked at him seriously. Marcus was quite handsome, or he wouldn’t be the town’s famous playboy.
“Marcus, you used to have gray hair. I saw you several times, always loafing around. When we watched seagulls together, your hair was dyed brown.”
He looked much more dignified now, wearing a white T–shirt with a brown casual blazer.
*So, you trust me just because I dyed my hair?” Marcus as d, puzzled.
Yvonne nodded. “Yes, starting fresh.” Her tone was playful but mostly trusting.
“Aren’t you afraid this is just a trick to deceive women? I’ve had a lot of women before,” Marcus said, hoping she had thought it through. His past was messy and dark.
“You treat me so carefully, just like how I treat someone I like,” Yvonne said honestly.
Marcus didn’t dare hold her hand, his fingers lightly brushing against the back of her hand. ” You believe in me, so I won’t let you down. I’ll be worthy of you,” his voice was low and firm, full of promise and determination.
Benson wasn’t planning to return to the Taylor Group; the company was still under
renovation.
Benson stood at the company’s entrance, the sounds of hammers and drills filling the air. The busy schedule left him no time for anything else. He poured all his time into work, often staying in a hotel to handle sudden issues
Late at night, he would finally take a break from his busy schedule, pick up his phone, and hope for a message from Yvonne.
However, the screen remained empty–no calls, no WeChat messages from her.
Once, no matter where they were, Yvonne always managed to bridge the time zones to care for his life.
She would remind him of weather changes, to bring an umbrella when it rained, to add layers when it got cold.
These thoughtful gestures were once an indispensable part of his life.
But now, all of that seemed to have disappeared along with their relationship.
What pained him even more was that Yvonne didn’t even contact him about something as significant as their divorce.
He couldn’t help but wonder if their feelings for each other had truly ended.
George, carrying a stack of files, walked by Benson and saw Yvonne’s chat interface on his phone.
Not knowing Benson’s intentions, George said, “Madam has been getting close to Master Marcus recently. They met once when she collected the brooch and again yesterday. Twice in one week.”
Benson had planned to send a message to Yvonne to arran
divorce. But just as he was about to press send, George’s words interrupted him.
He put away his phone, setting aside the idea for now.
In the evening, Benson had to attend a business dinner.
At the dinner, he ran into Marcus’s father, Mr. Henry, who was in high spirits, practically floating with happiness
Benson asked and found out that Marcus had started working at the company, starting from the bottom and showing great ambition.
“He’s met the night girl and wants to marry her. He needs a career to match her,” Mr. Henry
said
Hearing this, Benson felt a pang of discomfort. But on second thought, he realized it wasn’t necessary
The mistake of drugging Yvonne to be with her could be forgiven once he found his girl. Not entangling with Yvonne anymore seemed good. Benson smiled, “You’ve always hoped he’d mature. Isn’t this what you wanted? Didn’t Marcus come with you?”
He’s outside, calling his girlfriend. Benson, you’re about his age, the most accomplished among your peers. He listens to with it.”
you. Keep an eye on him for me; I’m afraid he won’t stick
Benson nodded with a professional smile.
After mingling with the guests, Benson felt a bit tired. He walked to the floor–to–ceiling window to get some fresh air and unexpectedly saw Marcus sitting on the steps outside.
Marcus was deeply engrossed in a video call, his face beaming as if the whole world brightened because of the person on the other end.
Benson’s gaze was drawn in, seeing the blurry figure in the video exuding an indescribable charm. His heart began to race.
He intended to leave but found himself standing behind Marcus.
He listened quietly, hearing Yvonne’s still lovely voice, soft and patient, guiding Marcus on handling work issues.
“Don’t rush the business. You haven’t figured out the product and business line yet. Become extremely professional first…” Yvonne’s words were full of wisdom and care, stirring complex emotions in Benson’s heart.
Marcus seemed fully absorbed in Yvonne’s guidance. He responded earnestly. “Miss Billion Dollar is right. I need to excel at my job. What else…” He didn’t notice Benson standing
behind him.
In the video, Yvonne seemed bu inadvertently met a pair of cold, sharp eyes.
