Benson

Chapter Benson 28

Chapter 28 Donald

Yvonne’s voice trembled in the air, her eyes filled with unease.

Benson, the man who always had a teasing smile, did not let go of her despite her calling out to him.

Instead, he tightened his grip on her, as if wanting to merge her existence entirely with his own.

A playful smile curved his lips, and his deep voice, tinged with a hint of provocation, whispered in her ear, “So afraid Marcus will find out you’re my

wife?”

Yvonne’s heartbeat quickened, understanding the deeper meaning in Benson’s words, but she had no time to delve into it.

Just then, Marcus pushed open the door, and the atmosphere in the room instantly froze.

Only then did Benson slowly release his grip, his actions unhurried, as if everything was under his control

Yvonne crouched beside the table, her heart still r

racing

Marcus’s voice was filled with urgency, “Benson where’s Yvonne?” Benson looked down, a faint smile in his eyes.

“She’s here…” he began, but Yvonne gently tugged at his pant leg

Benson then changed his words, “She accidentally spilled the fruit bowl, she’s cleaning it up.”

Yvonne sighed in relief, trying to calm herself and smooth her hair, masking her panic.

Marcus immediately rushed over, kneeling beside her, his voice soft and caring, “Let me clean it up, it’s inconvenient for you.” Benson stood aside.

His gaze wandered between them, a complex emotion rising within him.

As her nominal husband, he felt strangely redundant at that moment.

Benson sat back down, his eyes once again on Marcus.

This man, who used to change girlfriends weekly, now showed unprecedented care and attention to Yvonne.

Benson couldn’t help but snoer internally, he had seen such scenes many times before and had long lost interest.

“Take good care of your princess. I’m leaving.” Benson’s voice was cold, his paze lingering on Yvonne for a moment, filled with an inscrutable meaning.

His eyes seemned to convey some unspoken message, leaving an urge to uncover more

Without hesitation, he turned and left, his steps firm.

The air seemed to hold the subtle emotional ripple he left behind, adding to the complexity of the moment.

Yvonne felt a heavy weight in her heart, an indescribable oppression.

Benson’s behavior left her confused and powerless; he treated her both affectionately and indifferently, as if she were just a diversion in his life, to be toyed with when needed and discarded when not

As the door clicked shut, Yvonne felt as though a door had closed tightly within her heart.

She bowed her head, her gaze distant, mechanically spooning porridge into her mouth, tasting nothing.

Time seemed to stand still. She took a deep breath, finally mustering the courage to look at Marcus, her voice trembling slightly, “Marcus, can we not see each other for a while?”

Her voice was saft yet clear, permeating the heavy air.

Marcus stood there, stunned, his eyes filled with confusion and concern.

He asked softly, “Did I do something wrong?” Yvonne shook her head gently.

“It’s not that, Marcus, you’re too good.” Her voice was gentle and emotional, each word carrying a heavy weight.

Marcus’s kindness made her feel an unspeakable pressure.

His goodness and sincerity made her reluctant to hurt him.

She feared that if this continued, her presence might bring him more pain and trouble,

Yvonne’s heart was filled with conflict; she was grateful for Marcus’s efforts but feared that his kindness might become a burden.

Marcus’s eyes were full of confusion. He didn’t understand why his goodness was a burden,

He just wanted to be good to Yvonne, to make her feel happy and loved

However, Yvonne’s reaction left him feeling an unprecedented sense of helplessness. He began to doubt it he truly understood her needs and feelings.

“We’re friends. Seeing you like this worries me. Don’t make me leave.” Marcus’s voice was firm, his eyes sincere.

Yvonne felt a warm current in her heart, but it also made her feel even heavier.

“I’m not single right now.” Yvonne’s voice was low. She knew her words might disappoint Marcus.

“I know.” Marcus nodded, his eyes showing no sign of retreat. “You’re so beautiful, it’s unlikely you’d have no boyfriend. When you said you had things to handle, I guessed it might be about your relationship. If he doesn’t want you, it’s his loss. As long as I’m around, I have a chance.”

Marcus’s honesty touched Yvonne, and she didn’t know how to respond.

Marcus thought for a moment and said, “Next time I come, I won’t come alone. If Bella isn’t around, I’ll bring my cousin. Is that okay?”

Yvonne was speechless, feeling an unprecedented pressure and responsibility.

In the following days, Marcus brought his cousin, Sophia, to visit Yvonne, accompanying her to get her dressing changed and bringing breakfast and dinner.

His attentiveness and thoughtfulness warmed Yvonne but also made her more conflicted

During the day, Yvonne had to work, but her mind couldn’t fully focus on her tasks

She was still searching for someone who could repair the brooch, but each inquiry ended in disappointment,

Marcus busied himself in the kitchen, his culinary skills improving daily, his ears always attuned to Yvonne’s every move

While eating, Marcus finally couldn’t help but ask about the brooch, and Yvonne shared her dilemma

After hearing it, Marcus’s eyes showed determination, “This brooch’s craftsmanship, though seemingly simple, has many intricacies. Only Mr. Donald can repair it. No one else can.”

Yvonne’s voice trembled slightly, her eyes filled with deep helplessness and anxiety.

She sighed softly, her gaze distant, as if searching for a glimmer of hope.

“Mr. Donald is 88 years old now,” she repeated, her voice filled with deep respect and concern for the old craftsman, “His health and energy aren’t what they used to be. Asking him to come out of retirement is extremely difficult.”

Her fingers unconsciously caressed the damaged brooch, her heart yearning for a perfect restoration but fully aware of the harsh reality.

Marcus spoke with a hint of excitement, “Getting him to agree might be tough, but I’m willing to try. If I can persuade him, it would be perfect! If not, we’ll find another way together.”

His words sparked a glimmer of hope in Yvonne’s heart. She couldn’t refuse Marcus’s offer, so she nodded. “Alright, let’s each do our part.” Yvonne knew that regardless of the outcome, she couldn’t give up easily.
