Chapter Benson 264

Chapter 264 The Tug of Emotions

For Victoria, the news brought a mix of joy and anger.

Her emotions were complex and chaotic. Benson had been wandering for years, searching for someone who could stay by his side.

And now, the person she always wanted to keep close was right beside him.

This realization gave her a small sense of joy, but it was quickly overshadowed by anger and helplessness.

Over the years, Benson had done many hurtful things to avoid Yvonne, and now, all of it seemed so ridiculous.

When they returned from St. George, Yvonne’s attitude was clear, she had almost completely given up on Benson.

Yvonne’s coldness and determination left Victoria deeply anxious.

“What on earth is going on?” Victoria murmured to herself, her gaze wandering around the room, her mind filled with unease.

She sat on the sofa, unconsciously tightening her grip on the teacup in her hand, the tea inside long since gone cold.

Her face was pale, and her eyes betrayed a weariness and disappointment that she couldn’t hide.

Little Emma’s voice echoed in her ears.

“My uncle is so dumb. What’s the point of talking it out? When my aunt is upset, he should just hug her. But he doesn’t, and they argue instead. My aunt is really sad.”

Emma’s innocent words only deepened Victoria’s sorrow.

She placed a hand on Emma’s shoulder, her eyes filled with helplessness. ” Emma, what exactly did your aunt say?”

Emma tilted her head, thinking carefully, “She said to tell you the story from that night.”

Victoria’s heart sank. She understood the true meaning behind Yvonne’s words.

Over the years, she had repeatedly told Yvonne, “If you want. I’ll tie him up and make him come back to build a relationship.”

She had always hoped that through her efforts, the marriage could improve.

However, it was now clear that Yvonne had different intentions.

She wanted to end the marriage and leave Benson behind.

Victoria’s mood darkened. She quickly picked up her phone and dialed Megan’s number.

On the other end, Megan’s voice sounded tired. “Victoria, what’s the matter?”

“How is Yvonne doing lately?” Victoria’s voice was filled with anxiety.

“Yvonne hasn’t been to the office for nearly a week,” Megan replied, her tone tinged with helplessness. “She’s been working remotely. Doesn’t she realize this could affect the company’s operations?”

“That idiot!” Victoria almost shouted in frustration.

She knew Yvonne was always diligent at work, rarely even taking a vacation, dedicating herself fully.

Her sudden absence was clearly due to other reasons, which only fueled Victoria’s anger.

Unable to sleep, Victoria’s mind raced with worry.

She called Benson.

When the call connected, Benson’s voice came through, tinged with weariness. “Mom, what’s wrong?”

“Where are you right now?” Victoria tried to suppress her anger, striving to stay

calm.

“I’m on vacation with Yvonne,” Benson replied, his tone somewhat forced as he

tried to sound casual.

“How shameless!” Victoria’s voice rose, filled with both anger and disappointment.

“This vacation of yours, the way you’re handling things, shows complete disrespect for Yvonne and your marriage. You can’t just brush this off with

sweet words!”

As night fell, Victoria tossed and turned in bed, her mind heavy with sorrowW

She sat at the edge of the bed, looking down at her hands, her knuckles white.

Her thoughts were tangled, impossible to unravel. She sighed softly, deciding to discuss the matter with her husband, Charles.

Charles had just come out of his study and noticed his wife’s somber expression. He sat down beside her.

The soft light in the room bathed them in a warm glow, adding a layer of tenderness to their conversation.

However, Victoria’s sorrow made this warmth seem almost harsh.

“My dear,” Victoria’s voice was choked with emotion.

“What should we do about this? Yvonne has worked so hard all these years, hoping for some kind of result, but now…”

Charles frowned, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.

“How could it come to this? Benson had a chance to change. Why did it turn out like this?”

His voice was filled with confusion and disappointment.

“Exactly,” Victoria said with a bitter smile,

“It might have been better if they were never together from the start. Yvonne’s kindness should have been discovered gradually, loved little by little. Wouldn’t that have been better?

Charles lowered his head, silent for a moment.

Then, slowly, he said, “You see, after three years of avoidance, it all came to nothing.”

His voice was full of helplessness and regret. “Benson can be so affectionate, but also so unfeeling!”

Victoria pursed her lips, her eyes filled with worry,

“He’s so caught up in this now. His attitude towards Yvonne has changed bit by bit, but why didn’t Yvonne come to us for support?”

“That child is so strong,” Charles said, squeezing his wife’s hand, trying to comfort her.

“When our son went abroad and cut ties with her completely, and after her father’s incident, she wouldn’t humble herself to seek our sympathy, would

she?

When she said she wanted to marry Benson, how much courage did that take?”

Victoria’s gaze dimmed. She still couldn’t let it go.

“She’s been working so hard all this time. Is it because she wants to prove she’s worthy of Benson?”

Charles sighed softly and said in a low voice, “We’ve all been through young love, pretending not to care, perhaps because we saw each other’s flaws and chose to quietly leave.

Yvonne’s hard work is probably her way of proving herself.”

“What do we do?” Victoria’s voice carried a hint of urgency.

“Yvonne’s the type who wouldn’t ask us for help unless she was desperate.”

Charles thought for a moment, then said,

“Our son’s persistence won’t help. We can’t let Yvonne suffer any longer, nor can we stand by and watch her endure hardship.

We need to help her find a solution.”

Victoria nodded, a glimmer of hope in her eyes, though she knew solving this problem wouldn’t be easy.

Meanwhile, Benson returned to the room and saw Yvonne sitting on the sofa, deeply engrossed in a book.

The soft light in the room highlighted her features.

Yvonne’s silhouette appeared particularly serene in the light and shadow, her focused expression blending with the words on the page, as if she were in a world of her own.

Benson walked over to her, taking a deep breath, trying to turn his feelings into

action.

He gently hugged her, his warmth standing out starkly against the quiet night.

Yvonne’s body was soft, leaning against his shoulder, giving him a sense of peace.

“Yvonne,” Benson said softly, his voice tinged with a hint of pleading,

“Please give me just a little more time. Let me prove myself, okay?”

Yvonne slowly turned her face towards him, her gaze deep and piercing.

Her eyes reflected profound disappointment, a feeling that seemed to have solidified into an unyielding coldness.

Her silence was like snow covering everything, causing Benson to feel a sharp pain in his heart.

She didn’t respond, using her silence as her answer.
