Chapter Benson 231
Chapter 231 A Complex Situation
Benson’s gaze locked onto Yvonne’s face like a hawk, is deep eyes seeming to penetrate her soul, making her heart race.
The tension in the air was almost palpable, and Yvonne felt her throat go dry, her heart pounding in her chest.
Inside, she was awash with complex emotions.
Regarding Olivia’s situation, she knew she had to remain ellent. Any wrong move could undo all her efforts. At this moment, she was both worried and anxious.
“Yvonne, is there something you’re not telling me?”
Benson’s voice was low and powerful, each word carrying an undercurrent of threat.
His sharp gaze was so intense that she could hardly meet his eyes, feeling as if he could see right through
her.
“What?” Yvonne’s voice trembled slightly as she tried to maintain her composure, but the u
her was hard to conceal.
She knew that any slip–up now could lead to unforeseen consequences.
She had to stay vigilant, especially in front of someone like Benson.
She thought to herself that if Benson discovered Olivia wasn’t the person he was looking for, all her previous efforts would be in vain.
Benson was a complex person–capable of immense warmth when gentle, but his anger could be terrifyingly destructive.
inside.
She knew that she couldn’t afford any mistakes with him. If Benson felt betrayed, his retaliation could be devastating, and she had to do everything to avoid that
So, she chose silence, pretending not to understand to avoid causing further trouble.
“Or is there something you need my help with?”
Benson’s voice carried a hint of probing, as if trying to uncover her true thoughts.
His eyes remained fixed on her, as if trying to read more secrets from her expression.
Ever since Benson learned about her connection to Mary, his attitude had become more complex.
Although he outwardly showed concern for her, he couldn’t hide the doubts in his heart.
He hoped she would reveal something about Mary, but Yvonne knew that Mary’s Issue would have to wait until later. Her primary focus now was on resolving Olivia’s situation.
“No, nothing,” Yvonne forced a smile, trying to appear relaxed.
She tried to hide her anxiety, but she knew this evasive attitude might only increase Benson’s suspicions.
“You want to deal with Mary, don’t you? It doesn’t have to be so complicated. Let Jeremy help you–I still have the video and audio recordings,” Benson said, his tone carrying a hint of provocation. The evidence he mentioned was indeed highly threatening.
Compared to simply exposing Mary’s past, these recordings held much greater power.
A wave of unease rippled through Yvonne’s heart.
Although she understood Benson’s point, she needed to focus on Olivia’s situation and couldn’t let other issues cloud her judgment.
She smiled slightly, trying to keep things light, “We’ll deal with that later.”
This evasive response made Benson’s gaze even sharper.
He sensed that Yvonne was deliberately avoiding certain topics, which made him think of Jeremy.
Although he didn’t press further, the deep suspicion lingered in his mind.
He shook his head slightly and dropped the topic, “Let’s continue eating.”
The tension at the table eased a little, but the atmosphere remained thick with unspoken tension.
Both were lost in their own thoughts, occasionally exchanging brief comments.
Yvonne tried to adjust her emotions, to appear as calm as possible, but her heart remained uneasy.
After dinner, Benson decided to book a flight back to Las Vegas.
Though his decision seemed decisive, the inner turmoil was evident.
Yvonne felt a pang of unease about this decision, still worried about Bella in Mesquite.
She wanted to be with Bella, to ensure her safety.
I’m worried about Bella, Yvonne said, her voice tinged with concern.
She wanted to go to Mesquite herself, to take care of Bella.
“Andrew is there. You have nothing to worry about. Even if you were in Mesquite, it doesn’t mean you’d be able to see her,” Benson’s tone was firm and left no room for doubt.
He seemed to understand Andrew’s ways well and believed Yvonne’s concerns were unnecessary.
Yvonne called Bella and learned she had already been discharged from the hospital and taken home by Andrew.
She was puzzled by this sudden arrangement, “Home?”
“What does he mean by that?” Yvonne was surprised, not understanding Andrew’s actions.
“I don’t know, maybe he’s just acting out. Don’t worry about me; I can handle it,” Bella’s tone carried a hint of helplessness, but she remained calm.
Yvonne had no choice but to trust Bella’s words, though a part of her was still worried.
She and Benson returned to Las Vegas.
Back in Las Vegas, Yvonne felt somewhat relieved.
She called Jeremy to express her thanks.
Although everything seemed to have returned to normal, she knew that in front of Benson, she was merely playing a supporting role–the situation remained complex.
品
Benson returned to Taylor Group headquarters, moving quickly and decisively across the polished marble floors, each step heavy with authority.
His schedule was packed, needing to make appearances at the main office to discuss strategies with the top executives, while also conducting in–depth inspections and research at other subsidiaries to prepare for taking over the company.
Though their relationship appeared calm on the surface, Yvonne’s deeply ingrained business instincts told
her this was only a temporary alliance
She knew that behind this carefully constructed facade, the real battle for power had yet to begin.
Recently, Benson had been investing a lot of effort into personnel selection.
He personally led the interview process, meticulously screening those who could join his core team.
One afternoon, his secretary respectfully brought him several screened resumes.
Benson’s eyes skimmed over the documents until one of them caught his attention.
The name shone with familiarity–it was Traduate from Parsons School of Design, the same year as Yvonne
Benson’s fingers paused, lightly tapping the heavy desk, “Set up a one–on–one interview with this person
when there’s time.”
Although a private interview with someone who hadn’t officially joined the company yet, especially a woman, might seem inappropriate to outsiders, Benson was particularly interested in anyone who might have a connection to Yvonne.
He decided to investigate personally.
So, Benson assigned George to handle the task.
Though George was still recovering from his leg injury, he had no trouble handling such matters and did as he was told.
George skipped the formalities of the usual recruitment process and went straight to the point.
His voice was low and direct, “Do you know Yvonne?”
The interviewee seemed a bit nervous, caught off guard by the unexpected question.
“Yvonne… I have some impression of her. Didn’t she often miss classes?”
George frowned, his gaze filled with suspicion, “What do you mean? Wasn’t she always punctual, attending classes rain or shine?”
