Benson

Chapter Benson 22

Chapter 22 Twists and Tums

Yvonne remained silent, her heart filled with helplessness and grievance.

Her relationship with Marcus was pure and innocent. Marcus had always been polite and respectful toward her.

However, in Benson’s eyes, everything seemed unclear. He always seemed to suspect her relationships with others.

Reluctantly, Yvonne replied, “Okay,” to secure the brooch she had long desired.

She knew this was merely a temporary measure, a compromise she had to make to achieve her goal

She was well aware that such a promise would not genuinely solve the problem, but at least it could temporarily ease Benson’s doubts.

Benson didn’t press further. His arm gently wrapped around Yvonne’s waist, his cheek resting in the crook of her neck. His breathing gradually as he fell asleep.

Yvonne felt Benson’s warmth and breath, but her heart was a mix of emotions.

She knew this night’s peace was temporary, the

he issues between her and Benson were far from resolved.

In the early morning silence, Yvonne felt discomfort. Sweat began to bead on her forehead and back.

Perhaps it was a side effect of the cold medicine, or maybe the high body temperature radiating from Benson’s chest made her feel unusually hot.

Sweat stuck to her skin, causing an unbearable sticky feeling.

She gently shifted her body, trying to find a more comfortable position in Benson’s embrace, but no matter how she adjusted, the discomfort remained.

An urge surged within Yvonne to get up and take a cold shower to relieve the irritating heat and stickiness.

She carefully tried to move Benson’s arm, hoping to get up quietly and take a shower to alleviate her discomfort.

However, her movements woke Benson

Benson opened his sleepy eyes and saw Yvonne’s discomfort. He didn’t blame her, instead, he immediately took action.

He got up and found a warm towel, gently wiping Yvonne’s body.

However, Yvonne’s mind was wide awake, her thoughts drifting.

She thought that if Benson’s care and gentleness had come earlier, perhaps she wouldn’t feel so lonely and desperate

But the reality was that such tenderness arrived only after she had lost faith in their relationship and decided to give up.

Morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting light into the room.

Yvonne, unable to sleep, decided to get up and prepare breakfast for Benson.

With the housekeeper on leave, the morning was unusually quiet, giving Benson space to indulge in his words the night before.

At the breakfast table, Yvonne heated milk and bread. They sat across from each other, starting their simple meal.

Observing Benson’s seemingly good mood, Yvonne gathered the courage to bring up the question that had been on her mind: “When will you give me the brooch?

Benson’s expression darkened slightly. He responded indifferently, “Is it just for the brooch?”

Confused, Yvonne replied, “What else?”

Benson sipped his milk and set down his cup, his tone carrying a hint of displeasure: “Do you have to ruin my mood so early?”

Feeling a wave of grievance, Yvonne knew Benson might go back on his word, but she hadn’t expected him to express his displeasure so directly.

Her mood was also affected, making breakfast tasteless. She couldn’t help but ask, “What do you want? We’ve slept together, and I’ve comforted you.” Benson’s response was tinged with sarcasm: “You think that was sleeping together?”

Yvonne retorted, “You didn’t touch me; is that my fault?”

Suppressing her inner grievance, she patiently asked again, “What do I have to do to get the brooch?”

Benson stood up and made a surprising suggestion. If Yvonne wanted the brooch, she had to move back in and resume all of Mary’s endorsement activities.

This was evidently a carefully planned move by Benson.

dzation dawned on her–no wonder Benson kept bringing up endorsements. It was all for this purpose.

Yvonne arranged for her assistant to find Mary and retrieve the brooch, while she headed to the hospital to visit her mother, Hannah

At the hospital, Hannah was having a meal. Seeing her daughter, she apologized, “I’m sorry, it’s my fault for making you worry.”

Yvonne gently nestled in her mother’s arms, her actions filled with reliance and comfort.

In a soft voice, she said, “Mom, you’re really wonderful; you’ve done great.”

Yvonne’s heart was filled with deep understanding and endless love for her mother.

Since her father’s death, her mother’s world seemed to have lost its color. Her smile was no longer as bright, and her eyes often showed undeniable sadness.

Yvonne clearly remembered those days when her mother often cried silently alone. But whenever Yvonne appeared, she quickly wiped away her tears, forcing a smile to hide her vulnerability.

Yvonne lanew her mother had been staying strong for her, not wanting her to feel the same pain. So, she always buried her sadness deep within.

Hannah began reminiscing about her courtship with Yvonne’s father and the brooch he used for the proposall

These warm memories brought a sense of comfort to Yvonne

However, just then, Yvonne’s assistant called with disappointing news: “Manager, Miss Mary said the brooch was a gift from Mr. Benson to her and she can’t give it to you!”

Yvonne rubbed her temples, feeling a surge of disappointment and helplessness toward Benson,

She knew Benson’s actions were undoubtedly testing her, perhaps trying to control her.

The assistant continued, “Miss Mary will come to our company today to discuss a photoshoot. How about you ask her yourself?”

Yvonne spent a warm morning with her mother at the hospital before heading to the office in the afternoon.

Upon entering her office, she immediately noticed the brooch on Mary’s dress, glaring under the lights.

Yvonne’s gaze locked onto the brooch on Mary’s dress, sparkling under the light, exceptionally eye–catching

Yvonne directly addressed Mary, “Didn’t Benson Taylor inform you to return the brooch to me?”

Mary appeared slightly surprised but then smiled, “Miss Yvonne, I heard this brooch was your father’s heirloom. Normally, it should be returned to you. But I’m sorry, Benson didn’t ask me to give it back. If I do, he’ll be very unhappy.”

Yvonne felt as if a heavy blow had struck her chest, a wave of suffocation overwhelming lier.

She looked at the brooch in disbelief, her heart filled with the pain of betrayal. Benson knew well the significance of that brooch to her, yet he gave it to someone else?
