Chapter 31
Marisela
I woke up to the suns rays beaming down on my bare back. Lying flat on my stomach, I slowly start to open my eyes. I am immediately greeted by a bright light before my vision starts to clear and Kael's bedroom comes into focus.
Well, what is left of a bedroom that is.
Memories of last night come rushing in like a tidal wave. I feel my cheeks instantly heat up. I couldn't help but smile to myself. I turn over only to be met by an empty bed. My heart instantly drops
Kael is gone.
Feeling slightly disappointed, I start to sit up, holding the silk sheet against my nude breasts.
Where the hell did he go? Why did he leave?
Choosing to ignore the pessimistic side of my conscience, I stretch over the bedside table to look at the time on the alarm clock.
11:46 a.m.
It's almost noon.
I've been asleep almost the whole morning. I quickly get up off the bed with the intention to go and take a shower.
'''Hey, you're awake.'' I turn around surprised to see Kael walking into the room in nothing but a pair of pajama pants and a silver tray in his hands. My heart starts to fill with adoration at the sight.
''Good morning,'' he captures my lips for a short and sweet kiss.'' I made you breakfast, I wanted to surprise you before you woke up, but you kind of beat me to it.'' He laughs looking slightly embarrassed. I am speechless as I stand in the middle of the room holding up a sheet to cover up my body while this man, stands in front of me, holding up breakfast that he... made?
Who is he, and what did he do to Kael?
''You made me breakfast?'' I ask raising my eyebrows in shock.
''Not exactly,'' Kael places the tray of food on the bed, ''I asked the chef to cook you something, seeing as you were sleeping for some time, I thought I would go down and fetch it for you,'' He scratches the back of his neck nervously, ''and well, when I came back I had hoped you would still be asleep. I had this whole thing planned'-''
I cut him off by kissing him. He kisses me back after the shock of what I just did washes off. When I pull away, I couldn't help but giggle.
''I didn't know you ramble.'' I smile. The tips of Kael's ears begin to turn red and I couldn't help but squeal like a school girl, ''and you blush!''
''Oh stop,'' he pulls me towards him, turning me around so my back was to his front, ''I do not ramble.'' he says, his lips moving closer to my ear making me shiver, '' and I certainly do not blush.'' he whispers, sending a shiver down my spine.
''Kael.'' I moan. I feel his grip around my waist tighten slightly.
''I'm about ten seconds away from throwing you on my bed and continuing what we did last night.'' He growls. My throat falls dry at his words.
Unfortunately, given the slight pain between my legs reminding me that my body needs a rest from any particular form of physical activities, I had to decline his enticing offer. As if reading my mind, Kael turns me around so I face him. He gently cups my cheek, his eyes softening.
''How are you feeling?'' He asks. I couldn't help but blush.
''I feel...'' I pause to find a better word, ''ravished.'' I grin mischievously. Kael growls throwing his head back.
''Ten seconds princess.'' He warns making me laugh.
''I am a little hurt down there,'' I point to my lady parts, Kael's eyes follow, ''Nothing a hot bath wont fix.''
''Come on, I'll run you a bath.'' He says as he pulls me after him. Once in the bathroom, he pulls me to sit on the toilet while he moves about to get my bath ready with such ease. I watch as he walks about the bathroom shirtless preparing my bath. I didn't know I was biting my lip while watching him when he made a comment that made me blush hard.
''You have no idea how hard it is to concentrate on anything when you're looking at me like that, baby.'' He smirks. Not being able to form any words of my own, I swallow hard and tighten the sheet around my body, looking anywhere but him.
But wait... He is my mate, I can look if I want to.
And I look.
He's standing in front of the mirror now, with his back to me, but his reflection is in full view. He is watching me with a smirk.
''You know,'' He starts to turn around and face me, ''I can feel what you're feeling, love.'' he says, walking over to turn off the water. ''And I can smell what you want.'' he says darkly.
That cheeky son of a cow. Two can play at that game.
A smirk of my own grows on my face as my eyes are locked on his.
''Well,'' I begin to stand, leaving the sheet to drop to the floor, exposing my body once more. The look on his face at the sight of me only boosts my confidence further. ''Its a pity I don't have the energy to fulfill both of our..'' I stop right in front of him and whisper, ''need.'' With that, I slowly and seductively step into the bath. The Hot water easing my muscles instantly as I slowly sit down. I rest my head against the bath and close my eyes.
I could sense his eyes on me the whole time. My body tingles with satisfaction. I open one eye, and see him standing in the same position I left him in. Only this time, he's eyes are on me, but they are a swirl of gold and black.
''Care to join?'' I grin. I watch him with both eyes open now. Something about the way he was fighting his wolf was such a turn on. After a moment longer, his eyes are back to his normal blue eyes and with a smirk of his own, he starts to remove the only piece of clothing he has on. Once his pants are discarded carelessly on the floor, he walks closer to me. His nakedness in full view.
I know I saw him last night, but I can't help my mouth from watering at the sight of this God like specimen jumping in the tub with me. Luckily it was big enough for the both of us.
Kael jumps in behind me, pulling me onto his lap. My back rests against his front, while I lay my head on his chest.
I don't think I've smiled this much in my entire life, than I have in the past twenty four hours with Kael. I don't know what it is exactly, but God, I was happy.
I was happy with him.
-----------
''Do you have any plans today?'' Kael asks beside me on the table. We were currently having our 'brunch' on the balcony of his bedroom.
After our bath session, we got dressed and came out on the balcony to have our breakfast. It was a beautiful day. The sun was out with no cloud in sight.
Kael sat beside me in nothing but a pair of basketball shorts, His chiselled abdomen made it hard for me not to stare and admire him. And God did he know it.
I however chose not to make it any easier on him either. I wore one of his long-sleeved white shirts, that reached just below my bottom... and nothing else underneath.
Care to say we were both enjoying this new found teasing game we had going on. I was surprised to know that I play this game very well.
1 point me. 0 point Kael.
''Not really, I was planning on going to see your mother then...'' I look away feeling slightly distant, ''my parents.'' Kael senses my change of demeanor.
''Hey, you don't have to face them alone, I will always be there with you, princess.'' He says, I turn to look at him, ''Always, Love.'' I feel my eyes fill with tears at the warmth his words bring to my heart.
''Thank you.'' I give him a genuine smile. We stay looking at each other for a little longer before Kael breaks the silence.
''I was- uh- I was thinking maybe today, instead of you going to see your parents, we could just spend the day together and face reality tomorrow.'' he finishes with a nervous smile. I couldn't help but smile at him.
''I would love that.'' Kael nods and turns back to his food, our smiles not leaving our faces. We both finish our food in a couple of minutes. We then walk out of the room and instantly we are greeted by one of the guards. Luckily this time, it was only one.
However, I have a feeling this has a lot to do with the fact that Kael is walking beside me.
As we walked down the stairs and into the hallway, hand in hand, I had the biggest smile on my face. And although Kael was trying to be the tough Alpha King to everyone else around us, I know he is smiling on the inside too.
Strangely enough, I could feel it.
I was brought down from cloud nine when I notice Layla rush out of the castle in tears. Kael notices it too. We both stop and watch the scene unfold before of us. Dimitri runs after her looking very angry. Kael's stance gets very defensive as he pulls me closer to him.
However, Layla and Dimitri haven't noticed us yet.
''You were supposed to look after him, Dimitri!" Layla yells at Dimitri, stopping as he catches up to her, ''You promised me.'' She has tears rolling down her face uncontrollably.
''I am so sorry Layla.'' Dimitri apologizes, ''I had no idea.''
We are all left stunned when we hear Layla's palm meet Dimitris cheek.
''You are a liar! You were never a real friend to him, you and Kael!'' She screams in his face. "You let him rot in those cells for days! What kind of friend does that make you? You know he's innocent!" Kael and I watch soundlessly from the hallway, too stunned to even move.
''That is Alpha to you.'' Dimitri sneers, his eyes turning black, ''you will address Kael as your Alpha!'' Layla gasps as she takes a terrifying step back. However she quickly composes herself and looks Dimitri dead in the eye.
''This is all your fault!'' she spits at him, ''and because of that you will pay.'' she takes another step back and points to the castle, ''all of you will pay.''
With that being her final wordsc she turns around and leaves. Dimitri drops his head in defeat. Kael is about to walk towards him, when Dimitri tilts his head back and lets out a howl. Kael stops dead in his tracks, with his eyes wide open as he looks at Dimitri.
I have no idea what is going on, but the look on Kael's face means it's definitely something bad. My eyes turn back to Dimitri when I hear the feint sound of bones breaking. My eyes almost budge out of their sockets when I see a dark brown wolf standing in the exact same position Dimitri was in just a second ago. I watch in shock and fear as the wolf runs off with an inhuman speed away from the castle .
I turn to look at Kael who wears a hard look on his face.
''Kael, what's going on?'' I ask afraid. I feel the tension rolling off of him. Something is terribly wrong.
''Kael-''
''Take her to the room, Lyle.'' He turns the guard, who I had completely forgotten was even there.''Make sure she's safe.'' He commands. Lyle bows his head.
''Yes, Alpha.''
Kael turns to me and pulls me in for a brief kiss. When he pulls away, he holds my head in his hands.
''Something has happened, Love. I know we planned to spend the day together, but please go back to my room and lock the doors, Ill be there as soon as I can. '' he says with a soft look only meant for me. ''I need you to be safe.''
''Kael I don't understand, what is going on.''
''Now.'' he says to Lyle completely ignoring me. Lyle moves to stand beside me, waiting for me to follow.
''Please, Luna, come with me.'' Lyle says to me. Kael quickly pushes me into Lyles arms before I could protest.
''Take her NOW!'' Kael instructs. Lyle pulls on my arm a little harder forcing me to follow him. His tall frame blocking my view of Kael.
I am once again left stunned when I hear bones cracking and in a flash, I notice Kael is no longer standing on two feet, but is down on four very large legs. He shifted into his wolf.
Kael senses my eyes on him. His wolf lowers his head at me, as if telling me not to be afraid. I give him a small nod and he lifts his large head. He tilts his head back and lets out a loud howl. Lyle soon follows in his human form. In a distant, I hear multiple howls coming from everywhere around the castle.
The Alpha was calling to his pack.
Lyle quickly pulls me inside, still in my daze I don't realize what is happening until I reach the bedroom door. Lyle opens it for me.
''After you, Luna.'' He lowers his head in respect. As soon as I enter the room, Lyle closes the door, standing on the other side of it.
I walk over to the balcony, and look out into the garden. In the distance I see many wolves from all over the castle run into the forest. So many of them came running from all over.
What the hell is going on?
I had this strange calling that was drawing me towards the ocean. It was very strange, It felt like my body is being pulled towards it. Deciding not to ignore this weird feeling, I rush upstairs to Kael's study and quickly run over to the large windows that had the view of the ocean.
I didn't understand this feeling. I look out into the water hoping to see something, but I don't find anything. Just as I am about to walk back inside, I see my mother on the balcony of her room. From this angle, I could see the balcony that leads to her bedroom.
Her room is on the east wing of the castle and only one floor below me. Her attention is on something ahead of her, as if concentrating really hard on whatever it is. My eyes follow in the direction she is looking in.
There on the shore, stood a man and a woman, both of whom had white hair. Although their backs were to me, even a fool could tell they were not human.
Sirens.
I watch in fear as to what is about to happen.
After a few moments, I see Dimitri appear in his wolf form out of the woods. I am relieved when I see Kael follow right after. I watch as Kael moves to stand in front of Dimitri. Soon, three more wolves arrive and stand beside Dimitri.
I let out another gasp when the male Siren steps aside, revealing Cory. Dear crawls beneath my skin. Cory is knelt down on the ground, tied up and beaten to a pulp.
My eyes briefly glance over at my mother- Nadia, who is watching carefully. My eyes go back to the shore.
I didn't know what was happening until the female Siren, lifts her hand in the air and strikes down across Cory's throat. My breath catches in my throat at the scene before me. I watch as Cory's lifeless body falls to the ground surrounded in a pool of his own blood.
I watch as Kael takes a threatening step forward as well as the four other wolves behind him. The Siren takes a step forward and starts to speak, I hated the fact that I couldn't hear a damn thing.
In an instant, Kael and the rest of wolves stand still, as if they were frozen.
No!
I feel so helpless standing here while my mate and his pack are in trouble. I was about to scream for help, when I watch the Sirens turn to leave and walk back into the water. Once their bodies submerge under the water, Kael and the wolves are able to move again. They run into the water, but its hopeless, they were never going to find them. I watch as they retreat back towards Cory's lifeless body.
Kael is the first to howl, then the other wolves follow. Slowly, one by one the other wolves appear out of the woods, with their heads to the ground. They all begin to surround Cory's body.
Kael stands in the middle, tilting his head back, he howls again. The wolves once again, repeat this notion. Only this time, they sound sad. Broken.
They lost a pack member.
Cory is dead.
My heart cries out for each and every one of them. As I stand on the balcony crying my eyes out at the scene that has just unfolded, I could feel a part of me break. The pain is much stronger than I had anticipated.
Kael. I could feel him hurting too.
My eyes look over at the balcony to Nadia's room. I freeze when I notice the smile on her face. Slowly she takes a step back and walks back inside the room.
The realization dawning on me. She's behind this. She killed Cory.
