Chapter Too Late
Song - Too Late By The Weeknd
If she doesn't get the fuck away from me I'm going to blow this whole thing. April has always been annoying but in the past it didn't bother me as much. I'm about to lose it right now though.
When I called Alpha Elijah for help said he needed four hours to get here and her brothers needed two. I'm just counting down the minutes.
That fucking thing around her neck is eating away at me. Chase has been busy without me, none of this shit is part of what we had planned.
I don't know how much longer I can do this. She squeezed my pinky, she knows I'm not against her but she looks so sad. I just need to convince him that I'm still on his side for a little bit longer. Stall.
Cars start to pull up outside.
As I turn to face the door I'm able to look at her for a second without it being obvious.
Look up, baby. Look at me.
Her big green eyes meet mine and it's searing pain and overwhelming love mixed together. I will get her out of this. She's going to hate me forever.
The door opens and several members of our group file in. They all look tense until they see me.
I was able to speak to Jake privately for a few minutes earlier and he informed me that everyone is uncomfortable with Chases irrational behavior and mutinous actions. We have always been very calculated, not attacking werewolves unprovoked. We're waiting for my mother to step down, for my reign to begin.
Chase is being a hothead and it makes everyone nervous that this is going to explode in our faces before it actually begins.
I hope when they say that they're with me, they mean it. This group is about to change drastically.
I was ten when I met Chase, who was fourteen. I was lost and angry, acting out and searching for something, anything to make the world make sense. He gave me a place to harness my rage and destruction.
Chase started a group of like minded misfits who had grievances with wolves. Over time we grew to nineteen members.
Chase was the leader but, as the Prince, I was the face and key player in everything. We started as a support group almost, lost kids talking about our murdered family members. It became militant as we got older, as the rage grew.
I'm set to be King. We decided that I could change our world, I could get justice for our families, for ourselves.
We started to plan and train, waiting for the day that I would take over, we would be ready.
The thing is, Chase lied. Meeting Bea and her family, her pack, I felt like I was in an alternate universe. Every thing I was taught was wrong.
I had followed him blindly, believing everything he told me because I needed it to be true.
Then she was in my apartment and everything changed. I was so angry and blind that I couldn't see past it but I felt it. Just smelling her filled me with a calm I haven't felt in years.
The longer we stared at each other the more bitter I felt. What kind of cruel twist of fate would pair me with a werewolf?
Her eyes haunted me for days. I tried to ignore it but I couldn't. In those few moments, through my yelling and anger, our souls had connected. I was so confused. I looked at her and saw everything good in the world. How? Wolves are supposed to be the epitome of everything bad, the source of my heartache. Yet, there she was.
I tried to hide it but I started to fall apart, first on the inside, then physically.
I lied and lied and lied some more. I told Chase that it was the bond but that I felt nothing. That I hated her. The words were like acid in my mouth.
When I went to her pack I knew he was testing me, he was seeing through the lies but I couldn't keep it up. I accepted the "mission" too quickly. I was too excited to see her, to touch her, to feel her warm skin.
I have to force myself to look away from her, to face the group. Where are her brothers? They should be here by now.
"As you all can see, we've had some...unexpected new developments," I glare at Chase.
"I did this for the group. We need to know where you stand," Chase bites back angrily.
My eyes flash red and my fangs release.
"You don't test my fucking loyalties, I am the fucking Prince. You don't question me, you don't test me, you don't make plans on your own!" My voice booms through the warehouse, echoing off the walls.
Everyone goes silent and looks down at the floor.
"You have completely fucked us! These are all children of Alphas. We were completely unknown. No one was watching us or suspicious of anything. You put a fucking spotlight right on us!" I use the seething, white hot fury I feel over her being in danger to explode at him.
He picks up a strange looking weapon, a pipe with a sharp pointed edge.
A manic laugh bursts through my chest.
Is he fucking kidding me?
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" I step toward him, "you're going to try to fight me?"
He may be strong but my blood is royal. I have strength beyond what he can imagine.
"Chase, what are you doing? That's our King!" Someone from the group yells out.
I look over their faces and see horror and shock. They are all still with me.
"He betrayed us! He marked her, he let her mark him!" The disgust in his voice is apparent.
"He's the King!" Someone else shouts.
"He's a traitor King. A weak, spineless liar who picked a wolf over his own kind. A greedy, deceitful, heartless dog that he means to let rule by his side."
My body shakes and my mind goes blank. I vaguely see two wolves at the door. I don't question why I can't smell them. My body is moving on it's own. I run like a blur through the room, pushing the pipe through Chase's chest with his own hand. Shock covers his face as he registers what just happened.
He falls to the ground and the spike bounces across the floor, leaving a bloody trail as it rolls to a stop.
I hear chains falling to the ground. My eyes meet hers but only for a moment. She picked the lock but the device is still securely attached to her neck.
Horror replaces the small smile on her face. I don't have time to turn but I can feel him behind me.
"Andrew, NO!" Someone screams but its too late. I turn to look at her but I'm knocked off balance, sent tumbling backwards. Hot liquid spraying across my face. Her sweet scent engulfs me.
What the fuck just happened?
I open my eyes in time to see her sway, then fall. My body reacts in time to catch her. The spike is stuck through her chest.
"Bea! Beatrice! Open your eyes," I'm screaming into the chaos. I feel a hand on my shoulder, someone trying to pull me away from her.
I thrash against them and hold her lifeless body tightly to my chest.
"Baby?" I can't catch a breath. The energy drains from my body, I can't feel her heart. Someone grabs at me again, pulling me from her. The room is buzzing but everyone is silent.
My eyes are blurry and I can't focus on anything. Several vampires and a wolf have wrestled the male abductee to the ground. He must have been the one that did this.
My body shakes and pull myself up, ready to flay him alive.
Suddenly a glowing white light draws my focus back to my lifeless beloved...
