Behind the Husband’s Lies by Arthur Clark

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

On Children’s Day, I was swamped with work, so I asked my husband, Logan Williams to look after our daughter Mia. However, instead of taking care of her, he left her alone and went to the playground with his first love, Bella Linsey,

and her son.

He often justified his actions by saying, “Raising a child alone is hard for Bella. As a mother, you should be empathetic and not so petty.”

For the sake of the love we once had, I kept compromising until Bella started meddling with Mia.

That was the breaking point. I divorced him, determined to free myself and my daughter from his and Bella’s toxic influence.

Desperate and pitiful, he begged for forgiveness, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

“Chloe, there’s an emergency at work. Could you pick up Mia from the library?” he called me that day.

“Sure, I replied.

After hanging up, I saw him not far away, wearing a heavy costume headgear.

He was making exaggerated gestures to amuse a little boy, with Bella cozily standing beside him.

If he hadn’t removed the headgear due to the heat, I wouldn’t have recognized him. There he was, the man who usually prided himself on his appearance, now a sweaty mess.

Just an hour earlier, while I was working late, I received a call from the library. Mia was found huddled in a corner, crying.

The librarian scolded, “What kind of parent leaves their child alone like this? It’s dangerous!”

I apologized and hurriedly took Mia home.

Today was Children’s Day. I couldn’t spare time because of work, so I asked Logan to take Mia out to play.

And this happened just two hours after she left my sight.

In order to make Mia happy, I took her to the playground.

To cheer Mia up, I decided to take her to the playground.

Distracted by this sight, I didn’t notice Mia slipping away until she ran towards Logan who was wiping off his sweat. She was about to call out “Dad” when the boy Logan was holding pushed her away.

“Go away, he’s my Uncle Logan!”

The boy shouted, and his face was full of childish arrogance.

Mia’s joy quickly turned to tears.

“Why are you crying? Shame on you!”

The boy taunted and even tried to pull her hair.

Mia burst into tears from the pain.

I rushed over to scoop Mia up.

Her carefully braided hair was a mess, and her new princess dress

My heart ached to see the scrape on her elbow from the fall.

etorn.

Logan, seeing us, looked panicked. “What are you doing here?” he stammered.

I glared at him. “Is this your idea of an emergency?”

Logan avoided my gaze, unable to say anything

Meanwhile, the boy, realizing his mistake, started crying.

Bella quickly shielded him, acting as though he was the victim.

Chloe, you scared Harry!”

Logan said, more concerned about the boy’s tears than Mia’s.

I didn’t want to argue in front of Mia. I turned to leave, carrying her in my arms.

Logan called me and said, “Since you are here, let’s have dinner together.”

Bella chimed in, “Yes, Chloe, I’ve already booked the restaurant.”

I replied calmly, “You two go ahead. I need to take Mia to treat her injuries.”
