Chapter Chapter Twenty-Eight
The battle was nearly over, barely fifty vampires remained as they took them down I headed back into the house, shifting to my human form as I fell to my knees beside my father, tears falling down my face in floods.
“Serena…What happened? Your Mum just dropped to the ground…” Carla asks but all I can do is sob.
“Serena, it’s done, it’s over…” Quinn places a hand on my shoulder.
I hook my arms around my father’s body as it has turned to his human form as Quinn places his jacket over him covering where his jaw had been before we both head outside where the packs were waiting.
“Serena…” Liv says in a whisper as she whines, bowing her head in respect as the others take her lead.
“Gather the injured, head back to base!” Quinn orders as he leads everyone in a howl as he shifts.
“I will carry you home Serena,” Zane says as I sniff, nodding as I climb onto his back with my father in my arms as we all head back to the base.
I glide off of Zane’s back as he nuzzles my side before shifting, staying by my side, but not speaking as everyone bows in respect for my father as we walk through the gates and into the building.
“Grayson! NO!” Mum screams as we walk through the door as I place him on a bed, kneeling beside him as Mum cries harder than ever by his other side.
I stand up and walk from them as I head towards the office. When I get inside I slam the door shut before screaming in anger as I trash the whole place, throwing everything I got hold of at the walls.
“Serena! Stop!” Tony holds down my arms as I scream and scream, eyes flooded with tears.
“I couldn’t get to him in time! It’s my fault!” I cry.
“No! This is not your fault! There was nothing you could do!”
“He’s dead, Dad’s dead, Vance is dead, Eric, Oliver…So many died…They died fighting my fight…” I cry sagging in his arms as we both sit on the ground as he just holds me.
“They knew the risk they did this for everything you believe in. You want to be strong, together as a family, ridding us from tradition, keeping humans from being killed, working together,” Tony strokes my hair trying to soothe me.
“I can’t do this Tony, I can’t be alpha,” I murmur.
“Yes you can, come on, I’ll prove it, wipe away those tears,” He says pulling me up with him, taking my hand in his as I wipe away my tears from my eyes and follow him slowly.
“Alpha,” Heads bow at me as we walk by.
“You earnt respect as their alpha,” He says as we continue walking.
“Serena!” Carla calls in the distance.
“You earnt their love, as a friend,” Tony says as Carla jumps into my arms.
“You are strong, you are brave, you have people, a pack, a family,” Tony says as Carla looks between the both of us.
“You’re doubting yourself aren’t you,” Carla frowns.
“Of course she is, she’s too stubborn to believe in herself as an alpha,” Tony sighs.
“Come with me,” Carla takes my hand and drags me behind her.
We get into the medical bays as I see everyone hard at work, some of the people were worse off than others, limbs torn, but still alive, cuts, grazes, bullet wounds…
“Look,” Carla nods ahead of us as I follow her gaze as I see Daniel, David, Liv, Craig, and Poppy all sitting together, joking with each other light-heartedly.
“Alpha, alpha, alpha!” Someone begins chanting as the room fills with people stomping their boots against the ground, chanting for me as I turn and look around the room.
“Lead the howl Serena,” Lucien groans from the bed nearby as he takes my hand and squeezes.
I give an almighty howl as the room fills with the sound of howling and shouts as I close my eyes.
“This is for you Dad,” I cry as I touch the locket at my neck.
“Your father’s pack need a new alpha Serena,” Mum’s hands tremble as they link with mine.
“I can’t,” I whisper.
“Yes you can,” She urges.
“Baldo Pack! Do you take Serena Baldo as your alpha?!” Lucien shouts.
“We accept!” They shout as I cry, feeling the pack grow bigger, taking on my father’s legacy.
As I walked towards my friends I felt the power of the pack, the love they felt for each other, I felt every link, every bond.
“You saved my ass, Serena,” Daniel smiles.
“No, the pack did,” I shake my head.
“You led the pack, you helped bring us to victory,” David adds.
“You all did that too,” I smile.
“I’m sorry about your Dad,” Liv sighs.
“Dad would be proud of the packs,” I smile softly as Liv drags me down beside her.
“Rest,” she says.
“Too much to do,” I mumble.
“Serena, you’re hurt too, Wren needs to check you out,” Daniel says.
“I’m fine…” They all utter, mocking me as I laugh rolling my eyes as I feel the sting in my cheek.
“See, you need your cheek stitched,” Carla states.
“I will, when everyone else gets sorted first,” I reply.
“No, now or I go and get Zane to sit on your ass and force you to get checked out,” Carla raises a brow as if to dare me.
“You wouldn’t…” I smirk.
“She would,” Zane says beside me with a smirk as he lifts me, sits down and places me on his lap as Wren walks towards us with a kit.
“That’s not your mum Carla,” I laugh.
“No, I’m right here,” She makes me jump behind us as she’s tending to another, which causes the others to laugh.
“Assholes,” I grumble.
“Hold still alpha,” Wren says as she pours a liquid on my face to get rid of the silver coursing through it as I growl deeply.
“She’s fiery!” Zane smirks.
“Yeah, good luck with that,” Craig laughs.
Even though I was smiling, I could still feel the hole in my heart from the loss of our people, but I knew we were doing this for a reason, we were doing it for each other.
“That hurts like a bitch Wren!” I growl as she stitches me up.
“For a wolf, you sure are being a pussy,” She laughs.
“Careful sister, I don’t need my mate to kill off my sister,” Zane smirks.
“Bite me,” Wren and I say at the same time before looking at each other and laughing.
I yawn, exhaustion beginning to hit me from the battle.
“Zane, come with me, bring her, we’ll take her somewhere a little quieter,” I hear Calvin say.
“No, stay with the pack,” I yawn, resting my head against Zane’s shoulder.
“Take the bed, I don’t need it anymore,” Daniel says moving onto another chair.
“No you need rest too,” I shake my head.
“Serena, we’re fine, you need to sleep,” Carla smiles at me softly.
“Come on my little fire wolf,” Zane says laying me against the bed as my body betrays me, letting me fall asleep.
“She’s going to kill me when she wakes up,” Wren murmurs.
“Why?” Zane asks.
“I mixed the potion with a sleeping draught, I knew she’d be stubborn,” She answers.
“Wren…I’m gonna whoop your ass…” I whisper as I fall asleep.
“Yep, I’m in trouble.” She laughs and that’s the last thing I hear before falling asleep.
