Chapter Chapter Fourteen
“I come bearing food” Daniel walks into the room with a platter of sandwiches as we groan in delight.
“Thank you” I smile.
“She hasn’t woken up yet then?” Daniel asks.
“No, nothing, not a peep,” Carla answers before stuffing a sandwich in her mouth.
“So lady-like,” I giggle at her as she sticks her finger up at me, cursing, as Daniel laughs at his mate.
“I don’t think Oliver fancies you anymore,” Daniel smirks.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he left the pack altogether, to be honest, he was so angry with me,” I sigh.
“You were idiotic,” Daniel murmurs.
“I wasn’t leaving her to die,” I look at Brianna’s small frame as she began to shuffle in the bed.
“No! No! Don’t hurt me!” She screams as I dart up and sit beside her.
“Brianna, it’s ok, it’s just a dream!” I repeat again and again until she wakes up, sweat covering her tiny body as she suddenly cuddles into my side as I hold her tightly.
“They…They…” She cries.
“Shh, it’s ok, I’ve got you, sweet girl,” I rock her slightly as she begins to calm.
“Are you hungry little one?” Daniel asks kneeling beside the bed as he puts the platter on the bed as she peeks around my body, nodding shyly.
“Take as much as you want,” Carla smiles.
“Can I?” She asks me timidly.
“Why are you asking me? Dig in,” I smile.
“You’re alpha, alpha always eats first,” She frowns.
“Not here, we are all equal here, no wolf is unheard, no one goes without, we’re a family,” I smile softly as she hesitates but takes the sandwiches as she groans in delight.
“Her father must be traditional, it was an old way for the alpha to eat first before the pack got a look in,” Daniel says through the link.
“It doesn’t surprise me, he kind of gave off that sort of aura on the video call” I reply.
“Is there any more?” Brianna asks as my eyes widen, she’d eaten most of the platter.
“Wow, you were hungry,” Daniel chuckles.
“They didn’t feed me very much…They kept me weak, so they could…” She begins to shiver.
“Hey, it’s ok, you don’t have to tell us, I’m going to go make some more while you stay here with Serena ok?” Daniel smiles.
“Thank you,” she murmurs as Daniel takes Carla’s hand and takes her with him. “Try talking to her on your own” He links to me.
“That’s probably best, thank you, Daniel,” I reply.
“He’s nice,” Brianna murmurs.
“He is, he’s one of my friends, so was the girl, Daniel and Carla, they’re mates,” I smile.
“Really?! Wow, that’s so cool, I can’t wait for the day I find out who my mate is,” She smiles.
“I’m sure whoever it is will be super awesome,” I smile as we both sit back against the wall.
“The vampire you saved me from…Did you know him? He spoke like you knew him…” She murmurs quietly.
“I did, he hurt me when I was younger…” I say.
“He hurt you?” She looks at me as I nod.
“Him and some others named Yusif, Ben, Thomas and Sebastian. Did they hurt you?” I ask.
“I don’t remember a Thomas or a Sebastian…. But that man today and Yu…Yu…Yusif and that magic-user Ben, they would come in my room and…And…” She sniffles, tears in her eyes.
“They beat me when I was fourteen, did things sexually too…Did they do that to you?” I ask as she begins to sob.
“Yes,” She cries as I take her into my arms, holding her tightly.
“No one will ever do that to you again, I swear I will tear them all apart,” I say as she sobs, a tear falling from my own eyes as I hold her.
“They did it, they did the same thing to her as they did with me…” I link to Daniel.
“She’s safe with us now,” he replies but I can feel the sadness radiating through him.
“Brianna, how are you, sweetheart?” My mum comes to the door as Brianna looks up and realisation comes across her face.
“Luna Cassandra!” She exclaims with a small smile.
“It’s nice to see you again sweetheart,” Mum smiles as she joins us on the bed.
“You used to visit me when I was a baby, daddy told me,” Brianna smiled.
“I did, you were tiny when I last saw you, you must have been two when I last saw you,” Mum smiled at her.
“Just before the fire?” I ask.
“Yes,” Mum nods at me sadly.
“Daddy told me about that, you went missing, your daughter too, no one knows where she went,” Brianna says sadly as I smirk at my mum.
“Brianna, do you know who I am?” I ask.
“You’re alpha Serena,” She says like I’m being stupid.
“Do you know my daughters name?” Mum asks.
“Serena…OH MY GOD! You’re her daughter!” She exclaims excitedly as she hugs me tightly.
“That’s me,” I laugh.
“I think you’ve got a friend for life there, Serena,” Mum says through our bond as I smirk.
“I’ll protect this girl with my life,” I say back.
“She has to go home Serena, her father will want her back,” Mum says as I growl.
“Serena?” Brianna looks at me in shock at my growl.
“Sorry sweetheart, I’m not growling at you, I just remembered something,” I say.
“Do you have things to do? You are an alpha, I get it. Daddy doesn’t have much time for me either,” She sighs as I look at my mum in horror.
“You’re not leaving my side little one, if I have things to do, you can come with me,” I smile as she giggles.
“Why are you so attached to her?” Mum asks.
“I don’t know…But I can just feel it, the need to protect her,” I answer.
“Alpha Quinn is an old alpha, he works in the ways of our old traditions. He won’t have her stay here, he’ll want her back to train her to become a Luna to another alpha. He’ll have her mate to his own wishes, not to her true love. He’s a powerful ally and you cannot get on his wrong side, Serena,”
“She deserves true love, not forceful mating. I don’t care who he is. He can fulfil his vow of allegiance to me by letting me keep her instead of fighting if he so wishes,” I snap.
“Serena, don’t be stupid, use your brain, she has to go back to her pack!” Mum argues.
“NO!” I growl out loud as Brianna backs off in shock at my anger.
“Take a walk Serena and calm down,” Mum growls back.
“Did I do something?” Brianna murmurs.
“No, of course, you didn’t do anything, Serena is just having a few issues she needs to deal with, I can stay with you for a while if you like?” Mum smiles sweetly.
“That’s ok, go deal with your business Serena, I’ll be here with your mummy,” Brianna smiles brightly.
“Go, now,” Mum links me.
“Ok, I’ll be back soon,” I Brianna quickly before rushing out the room and out of the house, shifting as I howl in anger.
“Why do I feel so attached to her?!” I growl as Daniel comes bounding up behind me as I run around the perimeter.
“Could it be a spell? Maybe they want to cause havoc, you become attached to her, she has to go home, you attack her father? No alliance, they are that little bit safer in battle,” Daniel says as I tell him everything.
“Have Silas check it,” I growl wanting to go back inside but resisting, I just wanted to keep her safe, by my side!
“I’m not leaving you alone like this, I will have David sort it, Serena,” He says as I growl.
“There’s just something about her, she’s so like me. My mother is being so adamant that she goes back to her father to traditions and to her fate of being mated with someone for power and not love. It makes me so fucking angry, Daniel,” I growl pacing.
A thought suddenly comes to me as I remember something from before the fire, my mother had gone away on a trip for months, said it had been to see family…
“Is Brianna family?” I growl through the link to my mum.
“It’s complicated Serena,” She says.
“Silas says there is no spell on Brianna,” Daniel sighs.
“She’s hiding something,” I growl as I begin to walk towards the house.
“Who?” He asks.
“My mother,” I answer as I shift to my human form, making my way into the house.
“Serena, now is not the time for this,” My mum sighs as I stand in the doorway as she’s holding Brianna to her chest.
“Is she my sister?” I growl through the link.
“Serena, please, it’s complicated, your father doesn’t know…Please, don’t make me say it,” She begs.
“You cheated on dad and got pregnant didn’t you?” I glare at her.
“Serena! Did you sort everything out?” Brianna smiles as I begin to notice her face a little more, she had mum’s eyes, her little nose too.
“It’s complicated, Quinn and I grew up together, my father was traditional too, he wanted me mated to your father, but Quinn, he was my true mate, not your father. But I fell for your father too, don’t ever doubt that I don’t love your dad. Brianna is Alpha Quinn’s daughter, my second born…She is your sister, that’s why you feel so connected to her.” Mum says
“I did, how are you feeling sweetheart?” I ask Brianna as I try and take in the information mum just gave me.
I had a sister…My mother’s true mate was Alpha Quinn and my father was a forced mate through outdated traditions.
“I feel so much better! Can I speak to my daddy?” She asks.
“I will get him on the computer, he’s sending his beta and a few warriors to come get you soon too,” Mum smiles gently at her.
“But, I don’t want to go…” Brianna frowns.
“Then you don’t have to,” I say as Brianna claps her hands happily.
“Serena, you can’t do that! I’m sorry Brianna but you have to go home, your daddy needs his little girl,” Mum says.
“No! I want to stay with Serena!” She cries running to my side.
“She has no idea we are family does she?” I link.
“No, she believes her mother is dead,” Mum says which causes me to glare at her. How could she be so heartless?!
“I’m going to talk to your daddy Brianna and see if I can get his permission for you to stay,” I smile at her as she giggles and hugs me tightly.
“You’re stepping way out of line with this Serena” Mum growls in my mind.
“The old ways are outdated, we need a new way. Tradition tore you from your true mate, forced you into a new mating, I love my father but I can’t imagine being with someone who wasn’t my mate. Brianna deserves to be happy too!”
“She cannot know we are family!” Mum says.
“Why?!”
“Because it will ruin the pack! They will lose faith in us! Your father will never forgive me!”
“Dad doesn’t know does he?” I look at her in shock.
“No, he doesn’t know Quinn was my true mate, nor that I had a child. I had a witch help block him out as I carried Brianna and had them hide everything so Grayson would never find out,” Mum sighs.
“You make me sick. I don’t give a fuck about tradition, if Brianna wants to stay she will stay. I will be talking to Quinn myself. You cannot stop me. If you don’t tell dad the truth though, I will. He deserves respect, not a mate who has cheated and lied to him for years,” I say as her eyes go wide.
“Can we get more food, I’m still hungry,” Brianna mumbles.
“Of course we can, let’s go,” I smile as I take her hand, leaving my mother in the room alone.
“There she is! Wow, you’re looking better already!” Olivia smiles as she’s cooking with Carla as Daniel sits at the counter and watches us enter the room carefully.
“Mmm, is that beef?” Brianna grins.
“It is, want to come help cook?” Olivia smiles as Brianna giggles and bounds up to her.
“Holy shit…” Daniel looks at Brianna properly in the light of the kitchen window.
“BAD WORD!” Brianna shouts pointing at him as I burst into laughter.
“Bad Daniel!” I smirk.
“It isn’t a spell…She’s related to you isn’t she?” Daniel says through our link.
“Sister…” I nod.
“Brianna, do you mind if I take Serena away for just a minute? Carla and Olivia will stay with you,” Daniel asks.
“Yeah, that’s ok!” She smiles as Olivia glances up at us, frowning as if asking what was going on.
“We’ll be back in a moment sweetie,” I smile as I follow Daniel.
“What the hell is going on?” Daniel whispers as we get into the front room.
“Serena! They’re back!” Liv bursts into the room.
“What? Who?” I ask.
“Your dad and the others!” Liv exclaims.
“Shit, Daniel stay with Brianna, keep her safe, she’s not to be left alone, especially with my mother right now, understood?” I say and he nods as I close my eyes and flood his mind with everything that happened with my mother as his eyes go wide.
“How’d you do that?” He mumbles.
“I’m an alpha, it’s one of the perks. Vance told me I could do it, I’ve just never tried it before,” I shrug as he nods and rushes out the room, back to the kitchen.
I follow Liv outside as the cars pull into the drive slowly, the cars are covered in huge scratches through the metal.
“Oh my god! What happened?!” I cry out as I pull open the drivers’ door to find my father covered in blood.
“Not now, we need to get them inside, now!” Dad groans as he gets out the car and I see Craig and Vance slumping in the back seat.
“VANCE! CRAIG!” I cry out as I tear open the doors as Liv helps me drag Craig’s limp body out as Eric and a few other wolves pull Vance from the car.
“Grayson! Oh my!” Mum bursts through the front door as we drag Craig into the house, Vance behind us.
“Where are Pauline and Tony?” I ask.
“The other car, Tony had to turn her, she was pretty badly hurt,” Dad answers as we place Craig on a bed opposite Vance as Olivia and Wren come running into the room.
“Serena? What happened?” Brianna comes to the door timidly.
“Who the…Is that Alpha Quinn’s daughter?” Dad asks frowning.
“Long story,” I sigh as he stares at the girl and then Mum as she comes into the room.
“I’d be happy to tell you what your daughter did Alpha Grayson,” Oliver smirks.
“You’re getting on my last nerve Oliver,” I growl at him.
“Enough, I will tell your father what happened, Oliver get the fuck out of here and go on patrol.” Lucien walks up quickly as his eyes take in the scene.
“Grayson…” Mum murmurs.
“WE will talk in a moment Cassandra,” Dad growls before following Lucien to the office.
“I knew we couldn’t have a normal day,” David walks past shaking his head.
“Brianna, I need you to go back to Carla sweetheart,” I tell her as I kneel in front of her.
“But…” She blubs.
“I’m sorry, I have to check on my friends,” I sigh.
“Ok,” She frowns and walks off slowly.
I dart out the front to the other car where I can see Calvin at the second car, holding his side wincing as he opens the back door.
“Calvin! You’re hurt, get inside, I’ve got this,” I say as I notice Tony bent over Pauline, feeding her his blood with fear in his eyes.
“She needs to feed…But my blood won’t satisfy her!” Tony cries.
“Will mine?” I ask.
“Yes, but it will hurt,” he nods.
“Get her inside, I’ll do anything to keep Pauline alive,” I say as he nods as he flits into the house as I help Calvin limp into the house.
“Thousands…They have thousands, we cannot win against a number that size…” Calvin murmurs.
“What? You saw their army?” I say in shock.
“A glimpse, we know where they are now…” He says.
“Serena! Hurry!” Tony shouts as Calvin lets me go and I rush into the nearby room that Tony had Pauline resting on his lap.
I rush to their side as Pauline seems paler, paler than Tony.
“Give me your wrist,” Tony says as I hold it out as he bites me as I wince as he puts my arm to Pauline’s mouth, but she does nothing.
“Pauline! Come on!” I shout.
“Fuck! Come on my love, you need to drink,” Tony begs as my arm begins to heal.
“Not…Drinking…From…Serena,” She croaks out suddenly.
“You don’t have a chance, Pauline, I will not have you die on us! I need you, please Pauline!” I beg as her eyes open and turn a bright red as she groans and grabs my arm suddenly as she bites down hard as I scream out in pain.
“Slowly! Pauline, stay calm!” Tony says but she seems to go harder as I feel the blood leave my body, getting light-headed.
“What the hell…Tony get her to stop! She’s going to kill her!” David shouts as he manages to catch me as I fall to the ground and Tony rips my arm from Pauline, holding her down as she hisses towards us, being newly turned she wasn’t in control.
“Pauline! Remember who you are!” Tony hisses at her, pinning her as she thrashes against him.
“Serena, are you ok?” David asks.
“I’m fine, little light-headed that’s all,” I groan as my wounds are already beginning to heal.
“David get Serena out of here, close the door behind you, I’ll keep Pauline in here until she’s calmed down, order no one to come in,” Tony says.
“Will do,” David nods as he helps me up as I sway on my feet so he lifts me and carries me out.
“Can’t you go two seconds without getting into trouble?!” Lucien growls as he spots us, coming out of the office with my dad as they rush to my side.
“Pauline needed blood, she got a little crazy,” I groan as David puts me on the sofa.
“Stay here, I’m going to get you a drink and something to eat so your body recovers,” David orders as I mock salute him with a smile.
“Daddy, you’re hurt…” I gasp at the gash on his side.
“It will heal sweetheart, I’m more worried about you right now. I’m not happy that you risked your own life once again, Serena. What you did was dangerous. But, I would have done the same. I know Brianna is your sister. The family bond is one of the strongest bonds, which is why you were so impulsive.” He says.
“Aren’t you mad?” I murmur.
“Furious that your mother never told me the truth little one, but I knew we weren’t true mates, our parents were both traditional which is why we ended up together. I lost my true mate years before I met your mother. She felt the mate pull and made a huge decision. I wish she had just told me, but I can understand why she didn’t. Quinn’s a good man too, Serena.” Dad sighs as he pulls me onto his lap.
“Brianna doesn’t want to go home, she wants to stay here with me,” I murmur.
“Quinn won’t like that…” Lucien mutters.
“He might do it…He might be traditional because of how we were all brought up, but he’s a reasonable man who understands that tradition isn’t always the way. He won’t want to see his daughter tormented, pushed to mate someone who is not her true mate, he won’t want her to feel that loss as he did.” Dad says.
“Tradition sucks,” I murmur.
“That it does. Which is why I am so proud that you are leading this pack differently. I’ve never seen a pack so ready to follow their alpha, to be seen as equals,” Dad smiles.
“Here Serena, drink up,” David walks in with his twin as he passes me a glass of orange juice and a plate of food.
“Thank you, how are Craig and Vance? I can’t feel Vance…” I murmur.
“Vance blocked you out, he didn’t want you to find out what was going on. You won’t feel him until he wakes,” Lucien says.
“I won’t lie, Serena, they don’t look good, Silas is having to help the healers too.” Daniel murmurs.
“All we can do is wait and see. Now, I need to go speak with your mother and make a call to Quinn…” Dad sighs.
“I said I would call Quinn…” I murmur.
“Best if I do it. Do not let her do anything stupid,” Dad orders pointing to the boys sternly.
“Like we can stop her,” David grumbles as I giggle in my seat.
“He has a point,” Daniel smirks.
“What can I say…I’m rebellious,” I smirk as Dad chuckles before shaking his head and walking off.
“Wonder where you get that from?” Lucien chuckles as I raise a brow.
“Who?”
“Your Dad was always the rebellious one as a kid, got into so much trouble. Why do you think he’s so hellbent on you pushing out of tradition…He hates it because it was forced on him by his own father. He wanted another life for you, so that’s what he did. He might have mated with your mother but when they had you and his father began to order him about once more, he cut all ties with them. Your father became alpha when your grandfather died and the pack was elated, they hated how your grandfather ruled as alpha, it’s why your father was so respected, he wanted change. Just as you do,” Lucien smiles.
“Woah…” I murmur.
