Chapter 9
Ares POV
Your Majesty this, and Your Majesty that..
An hour into the ceremony and I was already done and felt like I was going to scream if someone uttered Your Majesty one more time.
As I sat on the throne, overlooking all my subjects who had sworn their allegiance to me just minutes ago, all smiling as they interacted with one another, each from a completely different species to the other, I couldn't help but wonder..
How many of those smiles were actually real?
I myself, had grown accustomed to spreading across my face a smile that wasn't real and neither mine. I didn't see or feel the need to do that when the only reason that had made me smile in the past was no longer in my life and I found myself thinking back to his letter. I gripped the arm rest of my chair and gritted my teeth when I thought of his words.
He sure had the nerve to write to me after all these years as if nothing had happened!
"You don't look well Your Majesty." I heard my guard say and it took everything in my not to grab him by the throat and bash his head against the wall. Instead I sighed and closed my eyes, counting to ten in hopes of it calming me down to some degree.
I was forced to sit here through this baseless ceremony and get acquainted with the leaders of the various kingdoms, forming alliances and recognizing my future enemies as taking the throne at the age of eighteen, I was bound to make a few enemies, one in particular..
The Orcs.
Whose kingdom was close in power next to ours. In fact, if there was ever a kingdom that would be qualified enough to be called our rival, it would be them.
Utterly disgusting creatures with no thread of humanity. The concept of morality, distinction between right and wrong, was completely unknown to them. They were like animals out of control , with a thirst for blood and only sought power.
They had no values and no ambition, no direction and it was actually a miracle they had grown so much over the years to such an extent, building a kingdom that was close to ours in terms of power.
It was no surprise that they hadn't made an appearance tonight, as they were our sworn enemies.
We thrived on our ability to be one with nature, to be truly connected to it while they held no respect for it. Destroying it as they moved through the earth for their own gains. I had on numerous occasions, brought up the idea of finally putting an end to them once and for all, and yet each time, I was put down with the excuse of not waging war against them.
"A wise king does not go out in search of war, but is always prepared for it."
Was my father's constant reply each time I had suggested we wage war on them. My father had always been a king who hated violence, and while that might have been his success needed to make his kingdom thrive, I knew in order to irradiate the orcs, we needed just as much violence as they had, that and we had an advantage..
We had magic.
Faeries, Nymphs, Elves and the rest of the kingdoms, each possessed the gift of magic, bestowed upon us by nature herself in order to protect it. And while the orcs just thrived on their brutal strength, I knew that combined, they had no chance against us.
"What are you thinking ever so deeply there" I heard my father's voice, making me turn my head in his direction and smile.
"Nothing at all." I replied and watched him smile back at me as he turned his head and continued his conversation with my mother. I extended my ear and tried my best not to give into that anger that had always been inside me when I heard them discussing my future partner.
It was no secret among my kingdom that I was a carrier. In fact, all males and females among our species were capable of bearing children but that did not taint my masculinity in any way. I might look more like a female, but I was born a damn male and I sure as hell was no damsel in distress.
I looked further on and could see one of the princes of the Elves looking my way and smiling at me and he was sure in for a surprise if he thought I was going to fall for that damn fake smile.
Is that the Prince who's supposed to be my future partner?
I honestly felt like walking to the nearest pole and bashing my head against it. I hadn't particularly seen this prince that everyone's been talking about as of late, all I knew was that he came from an ancient bloodline so pure that he was last true blood of his kind. His bloodline originated from the very first Fae to ever walk the earth.
"He'll be here shortly." My father whispered when he saw me glaring at the Elf prince.
"And no, that's not him" he added with a chuckle.
"Thank the Gods." I replied and only made him laugh even more.
I could feel my patience nearing the edge as each moment passed, waiting for this supposed prince to finally make his appearance.
Does he really think he's all that! Making me, The King, wait for him!
Five hours into the ceremony and I was officially done with everything and everyone. My head was hurting and I was almost sure I had swollen feet. All I wanted to do was sit and soak in a hot bath and forget the fact that I was going to have to marry some ancient prince within the next few days.
"I'm really not feeling well. I'm going to head up." I turned to tell my father and watched as he looked back at me with a worried look.
"I'm just tired, really Dad. I'm fine" I replied and watched him nod. I placed a kiss against his forehead and pressed a kiss to my mother's hand before I made my way out, followed by my guard.
I sat on the bed while he filled the tub with hot water and added the petals. I undid my braid and let my long hair flow down my back. I nodded at him to leave and walked towards the pool. I dipped my foot in and sighed at the feeling of the hot water. I removed the rest of my clothing and stepped into the hot water. I leaned my back against the wall of the pool and closed my eyes, taking in the smells of the different oils and petals and felt myself slowly relax.
"Your Majesty, my apologies, but you have a letter." My guard said, making me sigh at him interrupting my relaxing time.
"Bring it here." I replied and watched as he lowered his eyes and brought me the letter. He placed it on the silver tray and left the room.
I lifted my wet hand and picked up the letter, reading my name written on the envelope in perfect writing.
My lovely Ares, I apologize for not being to meet you at your coronation. I do however, intend to make it up to you soon,if you'd allow me to.
Prince Aven
So that's what his name was, Aven.
I sighed as I tossed the letter back onto the silver tray and lowered myself into the water. I stayed underneath the water for few seconds before I brought myself up, running a hand through my wet hair, thinking about this supposed Prince Aven...
Cocky bastard..
