Beasts of Pennsylvania - | The Nature of the Beast |

Chapter 25

Dean wasted no time heading into a crowd of genetically modified beasts to assist some of his own. He quickly pushed through, making it to the middle of the courtyard where some of his beasts were under attack and in evident danger. He used all of the strength he could muster to push the crowd surrounding his beasts back, sending them all flying in different directions, and soon hitting the concrete ground. Davina took her knives from out of her boots. She slide across the ground, slicing the leg of a genetically modified beast and witch. She then made it to her feet and landed a solid, hard kick to the side of it’s head, making it snarl at her. Quickly, the mutant switched from her beast form to her witch form, revealing a human behind the red eyes, black veins, long talons, fangs, and pale skin. The witch held her hand out to use one of her unique abilities. She lifted Davina up off of the ground with ease. Davina frantically began looking around, unsure of what to do. Everybody seemed caught up in fending of the genetically modified beasts, so to her, it seemed as if everybody was much to busy to be concerned about her situation. She, however, was wrong.

“Vina!” Charlie called out, making her turn towards him. “Your abilities show more each day! They kick in when you need it most and right now, you need it!” Charlie exclaimed, taking a pause. “Channel it!” Charlie shouted before tossing a mutant across the courtyard in her direction. Davina reached out to grab ahold of the mutant passing by. She let out a yelp as she was dragged with him, gaining the attention of the King and his co-leaders, who stopped what they were doing to see what elicited that yelp. Before she hit the ground, she rolled across the concrete, landing on her knee’s. Jackson let out a sigh of relief, making Dean shoot him a dirty look, before they both returned to fighting. Davina then spun around, ready to take on the witch once more. She used her knives on the mutants standing in her path to the witch from before. Once she reached her, she fought her with what she knew best; hand in hand combat. She swung her foot around, hitting the shoulder of the witch with a force she never had before. Davina landed another kick to the gut of the witch, making her groan and hunch over. Davina then knelt below her hunched over form and tossed her over her shoulder. Davina wasn’t expecting to turn back and see the witch hurling through the air, screaming as she went. The young woman clasped a hand over her mouth, not expecting her abilities to kick in so quickly. She didn’t spend much time pondering on that and turned her attention to the many other genetically mutated beasts she needed to help take down. At some point, Jackson came to the aid of Dean and decided to fight along side his King. They worked together despite both knowing they hadn’t gotten over their issues like Davina had asked them to. Jackson tossed a genetically modified beast in Dean’s direction. Dean then dug his way through the chest of their enemy and pulling his heart out in one swift motion. He then tossed it elsewhere.

“Why do you think it is we’ve seen all of these beasts but Vincent is nowhere to be found?” Jackson asked as he ripped the head off of another genetically modified beast.

“I’m not quite sure but something tells me we aren’t going to find him so easily.” Dean responded before assisting one of his beasts. On the other side of the courtyard, Marina, Brayden, and Xavier took turns in inflicting pain to their enemies while Sasha sat on the hood of a car, using her powers to do the work for her. Anderson remained close to Charlie, who was determined to keep a close eye on his temporary ally. They occasionally helped one another out, but Charlie didn’t need it much. He currently was resorting to his most animalistic ways after finding out just how difficult some of them were. He wasn’t fond of witches or ghouls as it was. To fight one with twice the power from also being a beast made it difficult for him to take them down, but he managed. Lucian and Catrice worked together. They used their minds to communicate the best strategy for taking their enemies out. As for the Ghouls, Niklaus and his community were fending off the compound just fine by ripping into the flesh of the mutants. At some point, Niklaus started to stumble as he walked. Dean noticed this and called out to him.

“Something wrong, Niklaus?” Dean asked. Niklaus let out heavy pants, trying to avoid all of their enemies.

“I think I’ve consumed too much. When Ghouls do that, we tend to feel exhausted until we eventually black out.” Niklaus said as he continued to pant heavily.

“How much longer do you think you can last?” Jackson asked, pausing to receive an answer.

“Not sure. But I’ve noticed a few of my guys have already done all they could.” Niklaus responded.

“Jeez, man! Must you devour every one of them you see?!” Charlie asked in disbelief as he tossed a genetically mutated beast and witch in another direction.

“You’ve seen how much less there are because of it! You’re welcome, by the way!” Niklaus clapped back. Charlie hadn’t noticed due to jumping right into the fight, taking on whoever stood in his way. By this point, there were a little more than half of their enemies in the courtyard. Niklaus let out a pained groan, catching Dean’s attention once more.

“What is it?” Dean asked in an urgent tone of voice.

“I think it’s time for... a nap...” Niklaus managed to get out before dropping to the ground, passing out completely, and letting out soft snores. Dean let out a sigh before continuing to fight. So very suddenly, the ghouls all dropped to the concrete, passing out from exhaustion. The King and his co-leaders tried not to make notice of how outnumbered they were now. Fortunately, Davina was getting used to using her new abilities on their enemies. With every kick, punch, and toss, she helped lessen the amount of enemies. She turned to find Jackson struggling with a genetically modified beast and ghoul. She immediately charged at it, landing a dropkick and sending him flying back into the concrete wall around them. Jackson then held his hand out to help Davina up, which she gladly took, before heading after the same mutant. Jackson watched Davina in amazement at how quickly her abilities kicked in. Dean quickly noticed and snapped his fingers, making Jackson tear his attention from her to Dean. His King glared at him only for a moment before being tackled by a crowd of mutants. Jackson made an attempt to help Dean but got himself stuck in the middle.

“Charlie!” Jackson called out, making Charlie quickly spin around. He ripped a limb from his current opponent and tossed it elsewhere before diving into the crowd to help is King and Co-leader. Charlie tried to pull them away but caught himself in the same predicament. Davina soon noticed the danger they were in. She realized if she had done the same as Jackson and Charlie did by heading into the crowd, she’d get caught too. She looked around, thinking of what best to do. A light bulb then went off in her head. She reached into one of her pockets and pulled out her gun. She loaded the gun with the all too familiar, silver bullet with an arrow engraved on the side. She then pulled back on the safety and fired the bullet at one of genetically modified beasts. Immediately, all heads turned towards her, knowing the exact sound that specific gun made. Catrice let out a shaky breath. She couldn’t see her King, Jackson, or Charlie, which filled panic within her chest.

“Man, I sure hope she knows how to use a gun well.” Catrice said. Not a moment after did Dean, Jackson, and Charlie manage to scatter from the crowd. Everybody quickly noticed how their enemies target changed from the King and his co-leader’s, to the one holding the most deadly weapon known to beast. Davina’s eyes widened when she noticed their enemies slowly inching towards her.

“Guys...” Davina choked out as she slowly and cautiously backed away. Dean, Jackson, and Charlie were the first ones to react. They sped over to those closest to Davina and continued their attack’s. They realized quickly they were loosing this battle. They’d already lost the ghoul’s, temporarily. But now, the beasts were finding it difficult to fend of their enemies due to exhaustion, and injury. All struggled, including Dean, Jackson, and Charlie. It came time that Charlie finally had enough.

“That’s it!” Charlie growled. “I’m going to make this much easier for all of us.” Charlie then announced, making Dean and Jackson pause and turn to him.

“Charlie, no.” Both Dean and Jackson said in unison. They both knew what he was referring to. All, with the exception of Davina, did. Each of the co-leaders had their own reasons for never resorting to such method. For Charlie, this method was what made him so infamous for his killing’s around the globe. For Jackson, this method was no longer used by him because he never wanted to frighten his once beloved, Genevieve. And for Dean, he stopped using this method because it reminded him of the beast he never wanted to turn into. That beast being his maker, the former beast King, and the only beast that came before him. This method was the alternate form, and more like the final form, of a beast. One that only The King, his co-leaders, and the former King of Beasts, could use.

“One of us has to. It’d help us all out and I know you both have an image you don’t want to destroy.” Charlie said as he eyed Davina, making her frown. Dean and Jackson both realized what he meant, however. The final beast form’s appearance could scar just about anybody upon first witness. Supernatural’s included. Neither wanted to scare Davina. Charlie really didn’t either, but he felt that one of them had to do it. As Dean and Jackson held off as many as they could, Charlie got down on his knees and completely shut his eyes. He then opened them to reveal his red, beady one’s.

“Charlie, what are you-” Davina said from behind him, but he stopped her.

“I need to concentrate, Davina. I can’t do this if you’re speaking to me.” Charlie said. Davina blinked in confusion. “I need you to step back, too. I’m feeding off of your anxiousness and I don’t need that right now.” Charlie continued. Davina blinked once more but complied and stepped back. Charlie then let out a sigh and turned back to her. ” Above all, I need you to not looking at me once I transform.” Charlie said, swallowing harshly. The thought of Davina being terrified of him made his heart ache. He didn’t want his best friend to view him as he is; a monster. Not soon after, a crack could be heard from Charlie’s shoulder. Davina yelped and jumped back. She wanted to step forward and help him, forgetting all about his transformation, but was stopped by Dean and Jackson appearing at her side. Jackson wrapped an arm around her shoulder to hold her back. Dean allowed it this one time. After a moment, Charlie let out a groan as his back grew in size. The rate of the growing ripped his shirt open from the back. Davina noticed how Charlie’s legs grew a couple inches longer, his skin turned pale, and he looked bony and flesh like. The other beasts in the courtyard turned away, no longer able to witness the sickening transformation. Even Dean and Jackson had to turn away. Davina however didn’t. She wanted to see what Charlie looked like in his final beast form despite her friend’s wishes. Charlie slowly started to rise from the ground, his ears growing to a point as he did. He then pulled off the remains of his shirt and tossed it aside. Charlie, who was previously just under six foot, had now grown eight inches taller. Charlie let out a roar that shook to ground beneath them, before he charged into the crowd. Davina stood frozen in her spot. She was in complete and utter shock after witnessing Charlie transform. Jackson removed his arm and glanced down, noticing the state she was in. Dean moved in front of her and placed his hands on her shoulder’s, shaking her a few times.

“Now’s not the time to freeze up, Vina.” Dean said, using that nickname of hers for the first time. Upon hearing the name, Davina’s eyes finally met his blue ones.

“We need you laser focused. Can you do that?” Jackson asked. Davina rapidly nodded her head, unsure of what she was even agreeing to do. Jackson noticed she was still in shock and nudged Dean out of the way. Dean glared at him for a moment before Jackson tilted her chin up to look at him.

“You’re okay, now.” Jackson said in a calm, gentle voice. Upon hearing the words, Davina snapped out of it. She took a deep breath and nodded her head at him. Dean fought back the urge to push Jackson away from her, but suppressed it since he helped calm her down. The three then headed over to the crowd, helping Charlie and the others take down the genetically modified beasts. Not long after Charlie had transformed, Sasha noticed how the genetically mutated beasts seemed to be multiplying, almost appearing out of nowhere.

“Have you guys been using your beast eyes?!” Sasha shouted, knowing their beast eyes help them see far better than their human one’s.

“Yes, all of us have!” Lucian replied as he ripped out the spleen of a beast. Marina paused to take a breath, stepping away for only a moment.

“I don’t remember there being this many earlier!” Marina exclaimed, panting tiredly.

“Where the hell are they coming from?” Catrice asked.

“Perhaps they’re coming from the forest.” Xavier suggested.

“I’ve had a clear view of the forest the entire time! Nobody and nothing has come from it!” Sasha replied, jumping off the hood of the car to attack a genetically modified beast that had gotten too close to her. She swung her enemy around, sending them flying into one of the car’s parked out front.

“What could it be then?” Brayden asked. Sasha sat and pondered for a moment, unsure of how to answer Brayden. Just then, several van’s pulled up in the front of the compound, their tires squeaking to a stop. The back door of the van sprung open and out poured the members of the organization, finally arriving to provide their assistance. Victor, Aaron, and Elliot exited the main car, immediately spotting Davina to make sure she was alright. When she’d unintentionally read their minds, she gave them a nod to let them know she was alright. Once Victor knew she was safe, he made his way to the top of the van and cupped his hands around his lips.

“I need everybody away from the center of the courtyard, now!” Victor shouted, gaining the attention of those within the alliance. Not a moment after, Dean, Davina, Jackson, and the others all backed out of the way. Charlie remained in the middle to keep the genetically modified beasts from running away, before making a run for one side of the courtyard. As he ran, he quickly transformed back into his human form. He stopped running when he realized he was about to crash into Davina. When she was met with the sight of him, she stared at him with a blank expression. Charlie stared back, unsure of what to say. He didn’t turn back to her when he turned because he had business to take care of. He knew from the way she stared at him now, she’d seen his beast form. Before Charlie could apologize profoundly for what she’d seen, Davina quickly pulled him further back from the center of the courtyard, not once letting go of his hand as Victor called upon all members of the organization. The members of the organization, being led by the head of the field, Aaron, all scaled the concrete walls and surrounded the genetically modified beasts with elite machine guns made with enhanced bullets to use against supernatural entities. Elliot followed Victor to the courtyard, but kept a safe enough distance from any guns or beasts not on their side. Victor waited patiently for the right moment to order his team to fire away. Before he did, however, he turned back to those that stood behind him.

“I’d suggest ducking or hiding in case of any stray bullets.” Victor said before turning back around. “On my count!” Victor shouted. Dean quickly wrapped an arm around Davina and sped her away, taking her behind the bushes. Jackson and Charlie soon followed afterward to join them. The rest of the beasts on the other side of the courtyard all went and hid behind the car’s parked out front.

“3,2,1, now!” Victor shouted. With that, gunfire lit up the courtyard. Silver bullets went through the beasts remaining in the circle. Davina covered her ears, having her supernatural hearing kick in at the worst time. She sat there for a moment before realizing there was a chance it kicked in for a reason. She closed her eyes and focused. Inside the mansion, she could hear voice. She realized nobody was supposed to be left in the mansion and that all were supposed to be out here to fend off their enemies. A moment after, the organization ceased fire, killing off all of the beasts within the circle. The beasts all came back to the center of the courtyard, joining the rest of the organization. The loud gunshots seemed to steer the ghouls awake. Some of the beasts let out a sigh of relief, thinking it was all over. But, just then, snarling was heard from above. They all looked up to the roof and find more of the genetically modified beasts making their way over to them. Davina frowned as she stood and pondered. She then looked over at Sasha, wanting to speak to her, but not in a way that the rest of the world could hear. Sasha turned and tilted her head, wondering what Davina had to say. Is there a way for you to see what we can’t, Davina thought. Sasha then frowned herself. She stood for a moment, thinking to herself. She then remembered a lifetime ago, long before she transformed, just like a beast can see with beast eyes, a witch can see with witch eyes. Sasha closed her eyes. When she opened them, she revealed glowing, purple eyes. The world around her was a deep shade of purple. In area’s where there was light or beasts surrounding her, she found they were highlighted in a bright, glowing shade of purple. She turned to look around the courtyard, finding beast’s surrounding them. She quickly realized just how big of an army Vincent had and that the they’d all been masked from their allies, perhaps by a spell. Sasha shut her eyes before opening them once more, revealing her human ones. She then turned to Davina once more. Beasts are everywhere, Sasha thought. In that moment, Davina devised a plan in her head. She let out a sigh before turning to her brother, Elliot, who stood close to her.

“Hey, Elliot?” Davina asked.

“Y-yeah.” Elliot said in a fearful voice, his eyes remaining on the genetically modified beasts that slowly inched towards them.

“Mind if I see your bracelet?” Davina asked. She then turned to Sasha, letting her into her mind once again. Can you make them visible to all of us, Davina thought. Sasha didn’t speak. She instead discretely nodded her head. Elliot thoughtlessly pulled the bracelet from his wrist and placed it in her awaiting hand. Jackson let out a heavy sigh as their enemies dropped from the roof and joined them in the courtyard. He thoughtlessly looked down to see Davina with the bracelet in her hand.

“Davina, what are you-” Jackson asked, but was cut off by Davina.

“I’m sorry in advanced!” Davina announced before taking one of the beads and holding it in the air. “Sasha, now!” Davina shouted before tossing the bead to the concrete. Not a moment after, the pressurized air within the beads pushed everybody in the courtyard back.

"Revelare!” Sasha spoke in Latin as she flew through the air. A humming sound filled the courtyard, and a glowing purple appeared in the palm of Sasha’s hand’s. Her eyes widened upon seeing her power displayed and the previously masked enemies now revealed to her human eyes. She’d believed most of her abilities had disappeared after becoming a beast. She hadn’t expected it to work so fully. Not long after, everybody hit the concrete with multiple thudding sounds. Charlie let out a pained groan, resting his hands on his abdomen.

“God! Could you warn a beast next time?!” Charlie exclaimed as he rolled over onto his stomach, then brought himself to his knees.

“You alright?” Dean asked as he turned over to Davina, who laid beside him.

“Peachy.” Davina grunted. Dean and Jackson then stood from the ground, both offering a hand to Davina. She took both of their hands and pulled her up. It was then everybody else could see just how many beasts were really surrounding them.

“Oh my God...” Catrice said in disbelief as she and Lucian looked around the courtyard. The sound of claps then gained everybody’s attention, making them turn to the front door of the mansion.

“Well, would you look at that. The human figured it out long before the beasts and the witch did.” Vincent said, making his presence known. “Well, this has all been quite fun to watch but, I’m afraid I’m just too old to sit around and wait all evening. We best get going, Davina.” Vincent said, turning to his daughter.

“She isn’t going anywhere with you.” Charlie spat. The three co-leader then surrounded Davina. Vincent let out a small laugh before walking down the front steps.

“Oh, please. I’ve seen how you’ve all fought here today. You’re no match for my beings. Not even when you entered your freak form could you take the entirety of them down. In fact, you had to use the bullet that I created to take them down. There’s no winning for you here.” Vincent said in an amused tone. He then turned in another direction.

“And as for you, Anderson. I’m going to give you another chance because I believe you only acted out of fear of what I am capable of. I’m willing to overlook how weak and foolish you’ve acted and give you a chance to do what you were meant to do.” Vincent said, making Anderson’s eyes trail over to Davina. He stared at her for a moment before turning his attention over to Charlie. We still have a deal. Even after I do this, Anderson thought. He then stepped forward in front of Vincent.

“How merciful you are. I promise to not disappoint you again.” Anderson spoke before joining Vincent at his side. Jackson pinched the bridge of his nose, not feeling surprised in the slightest. Vincent gave him a pleased look before taking a step forward in Davina’s direction. Immediately, everybody reacting. The organization held guns at him, the beasts stood ready to attack if needed, and the ghoul’s even did the same. Vincent laughed once more.

“All of this for some worthless, little girl.” Vincent said to himself. Dean wasted no time speeding over to him. Dean made an attempt to lay hands on his enemy, but Vincent quickly put a stop to it. With the snap of his fingers, the genetically modified beasts and witches inflicted an attack on Dean he’d felt before, but not at the intensity he did now. Dean uncharacteristically screamed out in pain, dropped to his knees, and gripped on the ends of his hair. The beasts and ghouls made an attempt to save Dean, but the witches all did the same to them as they chanted some incantation.

“Perhaps now, the humans too?” Vincent asked Davina. He snapped his fingers once more. Almost immediately, the genetically modified beasts and ghouls circled around the organization. All snarled and threatened to swipe at them. “Should I stop?” Vincent then asked. Davina felt panic rise within her but remained calm on the exterior.

“I know the beasts and the ghouls. They can handle it. And I seriously believe you wouldn’t dare do a thing to your little brother.” Davina replied. Vincent bit the inside of his cheek, confirming what Davina believed. Vincent didn’t say a thing as he snapped his fingers once more. The witches used their abilities on the beasts and the ghouls, putting them to sleep entirely. Davina watched them all drop to the ground, wondering why the witches let go of their hold. The witches then returned their focus to Dean. He had been able to handing the pain when they switched some of their focus over to his beasts and the ghoul’s. But he could no longer do that with him being their main target. He cried out in pain once more, barely able to withstand the agonizing pain.

“I overheard that the King of the beasts hasn’t been feeding properly and is now physically weak. In fact, I believe I heard my beasts say that you can no longer fight the same as your co-leaders. That you’re now inferior to them.” Vincent said as he knelt down in front of Dean. Davina found it difficult to listen to Dean’s painful screams. She wanted to cave and end his agony. But she knew, deep down, Dean would rather him go through such agonizing pain, then have her go with Vincent. Vincent quirked a brow at her, expecting her to cave. He then stood up straight and whispered in the ear of Anderson. Not a second after, Anderson sped away. Davina could hear the screams of another and soon heard a window open. Davina looked to the top left of the mansion, finding Anderson dangling somebody outside of it. She squinted her eyes before realizing Anderson held Eloise. A worried expression appeared on Davina’s face. For a moment, Vincent believed he had her. But then, Davina turned to Vincent, and narrowed her eyes at him. He titled his head in confusion before hearing her thoughts in his own mind. If I can enter your mind, who’s to say I can’t speed over there and catch her myself, Davina thought. Vincent shook his head at her, getting fed up at this point. He called his witches off and pulled an exhausted Dean up from the ground. Dean stumbled severely, but Vincent managed to keep him up straight. Vincent then reached into his jacket pocket before pulling out his own silver gun and immediately pressing it against Dean’s heart. He wasted no time clicking the safety off of the gun, making Davina panic.

“Okay!” Davina immediately shouted, taking a couple steps forward. “Okay, Vincent! I will go with you. I will willingly go with you if you call off your ghouls and your witches.” Davina said, making Vincent quirk a brow at her. “Please.” Davina then said in a wavering voice. Vincent hummed before snapping his fingers, making his beasts all back away.

“Your friends will wake soon, I can assure you.” Vincent said before turning to Dean. “And to make sure we aren’t followed anytime soon.” Vincent said before one of his beasts snapped Dean’s neck, making Dean drop to the ground. Davina knew he wasn’t dead, but that didn’t stop her from lunging in his direction in complete shock. Tears now dripped down her cheeks.

“Wait, what about Eloise?” Davina sniffled, remembering she was still dangling from the roof. Vincent slowly approached her before turning in the direction of Anderson and Eloise.

“Oh, my darling, you only asked of me to call of my ghouls and my witches. She wasn’t apart of the deal.” Vincent said. Almost immediately, Anderson then released his hold on Eloise. Before Davina could race over to her, Eloise hit the concrete, her skull shattering on impact. Davina let out a scream upon finding the woman she’d grown close to, now on the ground. Her head had split open, blood poured from a long crack extending from her forehead all the way to the back, and her eyes remained open and lifeless. Davina sobbed uncontrollably as she was dragged away by a few genetically modified beasts. She tried prying herself from their grip, wanting to run over to Eloise. One of the genetically modified beast and ghoul’s dragging her, got tired of hearing her cries. It growled at her, as a warning for her to cut it out, but when she didn’t, the beast ran it’s claws along her cheek. The claw’s cut deep, leaving marks. Nobody was sure if it was because of the violent act displayed, or perhaps exhaustion from all of the fighting, but Davina dropped to the ground, now going unconscious. Vincent glared at the beast who laid his hands upon her. He glanced over at one of the beasts that helped dragging her away, and immediately, they went after the one who attacked Davina, properly taking care of them for doing something they weren’t ordered to do. Davina was then lifted from the ground by one of the beasts and taken to their Vincent’s vehicle. Vincent went to follow after but stopped when he heard struggling.

“Vincent!” Victor shouted, trying to break the hold of one of the beasts holding him back. “If you do anything to hurt her, I will not hesitate to put a bullet through you.” Victor gritted through his teeth. Vincent stared at him before giving him a smirk and leaving the compound with the rest of the genetically modified beasts.
