Chapter 13
Victor led the group further into the large warehouse and to a grey door that they soon found out was a staircase. Victor opened the door for all to enter and they began heading up the staircase to second floor of the building. He then pushed open another door, revealing a crowded hallway of agents and such walking back and forth, undoubtedly busy and possibly carrying out tasks. Victor led them all down the hall and into a room with various working desks and boxes filled with cases. Few agents were sat at desks around the room. Victor led them over to a desk sat with one of the agents. The young woman turned in her chair, facing Victor, and waiting patiently for him to need her assistance.
“So, as we know, there is a war upon us,” Victor started but Davina stopped him.
“Wait, a second. I didn’t know about this.” Davina said, looking in between the beasts.
“You mean you didn’t tell her when the two of you were on that little mission to find out more about Davina’s past?” Charlie asked Dean with a puzzled look across his face.
“No, I didn’t.” Dean said, making Davina narrow his eyes at him.
“Probably because you were too busy fucking.” Charlie muttered though it wasn’t quiet, making Davina reach her hand out and smack his chest. He winced in pain as Davina rolled her eyes, turning back to Victor, the look on his face telling her that he hadn’t heard it. Aaron leaned down to whisper some teasing remark into Davina’s ear. Having read his mind without realizing it, she reached her hand out and smacked him as well. Aaron winced and immediately backed away from his sister.
“Vincent keeps using our resources. I guarantee if we use a company device he can track it and figure out what exactly we’re doing. Really, any of our devices aren’t safe to use anymore considering it can all be hacked. Which is why from now on any device that gets used between beasts within your compound and people within our company, needs to be old school devices.” Victor said as he turned to the agent. She pulled out a box from underneath her desk and lifted it up for Victor to see. As Victor pulled contents out of the box, the agents eyes drifted over to the beasts out of curiosity. Dean’s focus was on Victor, but Jackson quickly noticed her. One glare from him made her quick to turn her head over to Charlie. He had a smirk across his face, having noticed that she was staring at them. He gave her a smirk before winking at her, Her cheeks flushed as she spun in her chair, turning her attention back over to Victor. Charlie chuckled. Victor turned back to the others with flip phones in his hands, making Charlie’s chuckling turn into a quiet groan.
“These are what we’ll use to communicate. They won’t think to tracks us on these.” Victor said as he passed around the phones.
“What the hell are they?” Elliot asked curiously as he examined the device.
“They’re what people used in the early 2000s. Can’t do much but call or text on them.” Aaron said, making Aaron’s face turn sour. He wasn’t sure what to do with it in the slightest.
“Don’t look so gloomy, kid. We were alive in these times and we had to use them. We’ll probably only use these for the next few months.” Charlie spoke.
“So, you’re saying that this will all be over in a few months? That we’ll win the war?” Aaron asked.
“No, I’m saying we’re all going to be sick of them in the next few months and go back to our own devices. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ll risk being found if it means I get to have Twitter back.” Charlie replied.
“You had something to show us, Victor?” Jackson spoke up, ready for Victor to get it all over with.
“Yes, I believe I did.” Victor said as he turned, not waiting for the others to follow.
“I had our team create something for each of you to use in case of any danger. I understand that most of us here can defend ourselves,” Victor said, his eyes drifting over to Elliot. He scratched the back of his head, avoiding his Uncle’s gaze, knowing he was the only one who couldn’t defend himself. “But, if it is true that Vincent is aware of what else is out there, I can only assume he’s trying to get his hands on it.” Victor said before Dean cut him off.
“It is true, Davina and I can confirm that. We can also confirm that the Ghouls are apart of this now.” Dean simply replied, having learned this information recently from Charlie. The beasts hardly ever associated themselves with the ghouls due to their cruel nature. And hardly ever kept any tabs on them because they mostly kept to themselves. Dean learned through a few that certain ghouls were in communication with Vincent. Some of which Dean wasn’t too fond of himself. Davina then spun towards him.
“Nobody told me that! What the hell, Dean?! I’m apart of this, I should know just as much as you!” Davina exclaimed as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Jackson was supposed to inform you in the car.” Dean spoke, turning to Jackson.
“We didn’t because of what came up.” Jackson spoke directly to Davina. Dean however, didn’t like that sentence and frowned at the both of them, wanting to know what exactly did come up. Dean could admit to himself he was a jealous person. He however didn’t understand why he felt jealous about the two of them. He didn’t like her. In fact, he despised her. All they had was a single night together and nothing more. Yet, he still felt his face heating up from anger.
“Well, I don’t know what Vincent is planning, but I know Vincent. So, it can’t be good. We can’t assume we’ll be safe at all times. So, I am giving you some extra protection.” Victor said as they entered another room of the building. Hung on the wall were various different weapons. In the middle of the wall, on full display, were black bracelets with red colored beads Immediately, Aaron and Elliot went ahead of the others once the weapons came into sight.
“No way.” Aaron spoke in disbelief as approached the wall
“I thought we got rid of these.” Elliot said in amazement.
“What exactly are we looking at?” Charlie inquired, wondering why a bracelet would ever elicit that response.
“What? You don’t remember these? I’m fairly certain we’ve been on the other end of one of these at some point.” Dean said as he approached the rack on the wall to exam the bracelet more closely.
“They’re one of our best weapons for protection. Each little bead has suppressed air inside. You take the bead, throw it in the direction of your enemy, and it’ll knock them to the ground. It gives you enough time to safely get away. They were mainly utilized in the war this town had several decades ago. Which, I had though we had gotten rid of those because Colton accidentally stepped on one and it took out him and 15 other members of the organization. Not to mention an entire office room of equipment. They aren’t safe, Victor.” Davina said, quirking a brow at Victor.
“Well, we don’t have to worry about that anymore. The bead will no longer burst if stepped on. But, if you do happen to crush it while it is on you, that will obviously be a problem.” Victor said making Davina roll her eyes.
“Now, please take note that the beads with lesser air are on the left side therefore it can only take out so much weight. For example, it can take out a small child.” Victor spoke. Charlie then leaned into Davina’s side, nudging her with his elbow.
“Just what I needed.” Charlie joked, making Davina roll her eyes, playfully. He then put the bracelet on his wrist.
“And on the right side there is significantly more air. You can take out a moving truck with it, but that is only if you are precise with the throw.” Victor said.
“How do you be precise with throwing a bead?” Jackson asked politely as he examined the beads along his bracelet.
“Allow me to demonstrate.” Davina said as she took a bead from the middle of her bracelet.
“Davina, no.” Victor said is a demanding voice. She however paid no mind as she threw it in the direction of her two brothers, making Victor move back along side Davina and the beasts in the back of the room. They watched the bead roll over to the two brothers that were too occupied looking at their bracelets. Elliot was the only one to notice. He let out an annoyed groan before the bead erupted. The two were pushed from the pressure and hit the ceiling with a bang before hitting the ground, harshly. The two then groaned and rolled around the floor as Davina stood back with a smile plastered on her face.
“I told you not to do that, Davina!” Victor exclaimed as he ran over to help the two up.
“Yeah, but I did and it was totally worth it.” Davina said with a laugh. Victor scoffed at her as he began to help the two boys up. Just then, a voice came over on the intercom, announcing that Vincent’s truck was now on the move.
“It’s on the move. We need to head that way now.” Victor said, not bothering with his nephews any longer. “Go get your gear on.” Victor spoke to Aaron. Upon that, Aaron wasted no time getting up off of the floor and heading to the locker rooms. Victor then looked up to his niece.
“Go get anything you’ll need.” Victor spoke to Davina. She nodded her head before running out of the room to do as told.
“We’ll be coming with you.” Dean spoke.
“We will?” Charlie asked a little in disbelief. Victor frowned lightly before Dean gave him a serious look.
“Ineedto be there.” Dean spoke in a serious voice. Jackson and Charlie frowned at each other as they realized their King’s mind was blocked off to them, meaning they didn’t know what Dean’s intentions were and why he needed to be there. Victor nodded his head in agreement before heading to the exit.
“Let’s get a move on then! And Elliot, get up off of the floor!” Victor exclaimed. Elliot continued to lay stunned, not bothering to get up. The three beasts examined the young boy, shaking their heads at him before Dean and Jackson left. Charlie then knelt down and helped hoist the young boy over his shoulder. Charlie’s eyes widened at the lightness of him, making him pause and squat him for a moment.
“Man, eat a sandwich!” Charlie exclaimed before exiting the room. Soon enough, them and and the organization piled into two black vans and were on the road. It wasn’t long until they were behind Vincent’s truck. Victor turned back to Davina and nodded his head at her as Victor opened the sun roof and poked his head and his gun out. Charlie leaned into the side of Davina, who was sat beside him.
“Hey, uh, what exactly are you going to do?” Charlie asked.
“What do you think I’m going to do?” Davina asked as she put gloves over her hands. Charlie didn’t respond. He wasn’t quite sure what she was planning to do. Charlie noticed that neither Dean or Jackson had the same look of confusion. That only confused Charlie more. Davina sighed, having read his mind a little.
“Just watch, big guy.” Davina said as she put a black mask over her face. Two members of the organization then opened the back of the van.
“Wait, what are you-” Charlie started, but the sound of two others standing up from their seat cut him off. Charlie turned to find both Dean and Jackson, standing as best as they could with their tall height, in the back of the small van.
“Up.” Dean uttered the simple word. Charlie scoffed before Jackson quirked a brow at him. Charlie then sighed and unbuckled himself. The three beasts then headed towards the back of the van. Davina stood at the edge with her back turned to the boys.
“Well, good luck finding a way up there.” Davina said as she pulled herself up onto the roof. The three’s eyes widened as they approached the edge, trying to get a view at the roof of the van.
“Icannotdo that!” Charlie exclaimed. Meanwhile, Davina walked on the roof of the van without caution. Once she reached the second van in front of them, she quickly leapt to make it to the other roof. She turned back to find Charlie struggling to get on the roof, making her roll her eyes.
“Please, I’m going to fall!” Charlie exclaimed as he hugged the roof of the car, his feet dangling at the edge of the van.
“Again, you’re closer to servant than I am. You have to be the one to test it out.” Jackson spoke in a simple voice as he watched in amusement. Dean and Jackson then walked back further into the van. Victor pulled himself out of the sun roof and allowed the two through it. Charlie whined as he watched both Dean and Jackson climb onto the roof in a much easier way.
“Oh, come on!” Charlie exclaimed as he kicked his feet around, trying to find the floor of the car so he could do the same. His head drifted to behind him, finding a couple in the car behind him with absolute horror across their face. He gave them a cheeky smile and a wave before going back to finding a safe way back into the van. Davina was now close enough to the moving truck. She placed her foot on the hood of the car, making sure she wouldn’t slip before putting her full weight down. Once she felt certain enough. She put her other foot down. the moment she did. She slipped and slid down the hood. Luckily, the person driving the van noticed this and scooted further up so she wouldn’t slip in between the van and the moving truck.
“Davina!” Dean shouted, gaining her attention. “How are we getting in there?” Dean yelled over the sound of the wind rushing in their direction. Davina went to respond when the back of the moving truck opened up. Davina squinted her eyes to get a better look. She then recognized some of the people in the back of the moving truck. It was hard to see with a mask covering majority of their faces, but most of them were former members of the organization who had left for unknown reasons over the years. She didn’t know many of them personally, but some had left in more recent times. She didn’t have much time to react before the moving truck started to slow, making both the van and moving truck bump into each other. This gave those in the moving truck the opportunity to pull Davina into the moving truck. She yelped as she was pulled inside and the moving truck began to speed up. Her arms were held back and she was pushed onto her knees. She fought to keep the individual in front of her from pulling her mask off, but eventually failed.
“It’s her.” The man in front of her spoke. He then pulled off his mask.
“Rick.” Davina breathed out, having recognized the man in front of her. He was formally the head trainer for new recruits as well as a leader alongside Victor on the field. To her knowledge, the two had grown up together. He wasn’t just a big member of the organization but of their family too. The walls of the family house showed it.
“You know me?” Rick asked.
“I know of you. I know that once Victor became head of the organization, you were fired. Think it had something to do with you in bed with Victor’s ex-wife.” Davina spoke, making Rick land a hard kick against her gut. She groaned out, hunching over only a little.
“That’s none of your business.” Rick said.
“Doesn’t mean I don’t know about it.” Davina replied, receiving another kick to her gut.
“You know why we have you?” Rick asked.
“Vincent wants me for something. But, I don’t know what that is.” Davina said as her eyes fluttered out of focus. She wasn’t quite sure how two kicks to the gut tired her out. It hadn’t always. She endured abuse back with Al enough times to become accustomed to it, or at least she thought she did. She could hardly think with how tired she had grown. Rick then gripped ahold of her jaw, making her look up at him.
“Your blood is very valuable. Those claw marks on your back, they haven’t gone away, have they?” Rick spoke. Davina’s focus suddenly came back. She now wanted nothing more to break loose. Her nose scrunched up and lip curled, making him laugh.
“Tell me, Anderson, have you claws regenerated yet?” Rick said, looking past Davina. A hand soon appeared in front of Davina’s face.
“Not quite yet. The remains are probably still stuck in her back. Or, her sister’s throat.” Anderson sneered from behind her. A slam was then heard and shook the vehicle, making some in the back of the moving truck stumble. The three then turned to find Dean, Jackson, and Charlie on the hood of the van. They slid down the hood and into the moving truck. Davina hardly had time to process what happened next. The people in the back now stood and began charging at the King and his co-leaders. Anderson pulled Davina into the back of the van with him. Anderson was no longer concerned with her breaking his hold on her. He was now more concerned with keeping her away from his former leaders. Davina took this opportunity to try to break his hold. She lifted her foot, using the heel of her boot to collide with his knee, resulting in a loud crack. He groaned out as Davina twisted around to finally get a look of the man who permanently altered her for the rest of her life. He huffed as he glared up down at her. He used his hands to reposition the bones in his knee. He groaned as another crack ringed through the truck. Davina went to charge at her when Jackson threw one of Vincent’s recruits their way, taking Anderson out.
“Head back to the van.” Jackson spoke in a demanding voice with his hand wrapped around her arm.
“Uh-uh, I’m fine here.” Davina refused as she shook her head at him. Davina watched as the look in Jackson’s eyes changed, showing just how serious and intimidating he can be. Davina’s breath hitched at the look he gave her. She quickly tore her arm away from Jackson. He huffed at how stubborn she was acting. She was almost taken away and he was only trying to keep her safe by sending her back to the van. He went to yell at her when Charlie shouted something.
“Hold on, guys!” Charlie spoke as he took a bead from the right side. Their eyes all widened as Charlie threw it in the direction of the back of the van. Unfortunately, everyone in the van was pushed from the force due to it being such a confined space. Some were thrown outside of the moving truck and onto the road, and other’s hit the walls and ceilings of the moving truck with a loud bang. Groans filled the back of the moving truck. With a tight turn, everyone began sliding against the floor, some sliding out of the moving truck. Both vans were gone now, having not expected them to turn. Davina, Dean, Jackson, Charlie, Anderson, and Rick began to stand to keep from sliding out of the moving truck. Davina wasted no time bringing that familiar, small, silver gun out of the garter wrapped around her thigh. She clicked off the safety and aimed it at Anderson. She was about to shoot and everybody in the van knew it. Anderson stayed calm and held out a hand.
“I am your sire. That is my mark on your back. If you kill me before the processes of turning into a beast is finished, you die too. You need me!” Anderson said in a clear and calm voice. Davina completely disregarded the fact that he had told the three beasts the secret she kept to herself. She completely disregarded the fact that he told her she’d die without him. She disregarded all of it because all she could hear in her head was the sound of Bianca’s painful screams. The sound of Anderson tearing into her skin. The sound of her bones cracking, finalizing her agony and bringing the death of one of the few people she considered herself close to. She didn’t care if she needed Anderson to keep herself alive. She didn’t want to turn into a beast. She never wanted that life for herself. And she decided here and now, she wouldn’t.
“You need me.” Anderson repeated once more. And with that, Davina pulled the trigger. Only, Anderson never got hit. Rick had jumped in front of Anderson, hitting the ground harshly. Anderson looked down at Rick in shock. Davina went to reload the gun, but knew the gun only held one bullet. She gritted her teeth.
“Damn it!” Davina cried out. Before she knew it, she was being pulled away by Dean. She tried to pry the arms around her waist off, but ultimately failed. Charlie, who was facing the back of the van, noticed they were heading out of the city. The road was no longer busy, and the vans were now gone.
“We’re gonna have to jump!” Charlie shouted. Jackson turned, finding they were close enough to the grass to jump. He sighed tiredly as Charlie jumped. Jackson turned back, waiting for his King’s signal. When Dean never signaled, he went ahead and jumped without them.
“Dean!” Anderson shouted over the sound of the rushing wind, gaining Dean’s attention. Dean quickly recognized him. He formally lived at the compound and mostly kept to himself. He did his daily tasks. Dean never heard anything about him. And he never had a reason to keep tabs on him or look out for him. And so, he never did.
“She’ll die if she doesn’t get it! You know it! You’ve always known it! You cannot save them! You cannot keep any of them from turning into this! Into us! Don’t waste your time with this foolish hope of yours!” Anderson shouted. Davina didn’t understand quite what they meant. She looked between the two, finding the answers.
“I’ll waste my time if it means I get a chance to save them.” Dean said. And to not turn out like me, Dean thought, but never added. Davina frowned, having read what she never meant to read. Dean moved to the edge of the van with his arms tightly wrapped around Davina before jumping out.
