She made a mistake, and he got the goods on her, giving him the power to use it fully against her! She couldn't escape no matter how! Women really couldn't make such mistakes!

She'd be lying if she said she didn't regret it. But life gave no do-overs!

It was supposed to be a happy thing, but the child became a variant, and luck seemed to have left her that day on. Later, she just left things as they were and went with the flow, even harboring thoughts of revenge, walking further down the path, to the point of no turning back, to the point that even maintaining the life she was having was a luxury.

As Penny choked with sobs, Christian clenched his fists so hard that they popped. The couple shut their eyes unanimously. Reminisce the past, yet unpleasant.

Just when Penny raised her foot, and everyone thought that was the end of everything, Christian suddenly spoke up.

"Actually, Penny, I know everything... Gary said you're a good woman and asked me to treat you well. I really love you!"

He had never thought she would betray him!

Christian paused as their eyes met. He swallowed and sighed.

"Meseline's death and the trauma it brought Frederick are the regrets I can never rectify! It's my fault for not being a good husband, a good father! Both my wives, when I decided to marry you two, I loved with my whole heart! Even if I didn't love as much, the love and responsibility were still the same. The rules of the Clements family had never changed, and I, more than anyone, wished for family harmony. Just that, I'm not as lucky as Gary, or that there were issues with how Meseline and I communicated, leading to the irreversible ending. I love Hallie and Mason just as much as I love Frederick. Having learned my lesson, I even tried my best to fix my mistakes on you and our children. I've always known my marriage was rough, and Frederick will forever be my regret. The heavens have treated me well, but who would've thought..."

Alas, humans are fortune's fools. It turned out that the happiness he always thought he had was nothing but an illusion!

Christian's chest throbbed in pain, but apart from sighing, he didn't know what else to say. "Cough, cough..."

"Christian!"

Penny extended her hand toward him but stopped at the last minute, inches away from him. The next second, Carson went up to Christian. Penny closed her eyes, absolutely ashamed, and made her way to the door, taking Hallie with her.

Soon, the door opened once more, and the officers surrounded Steve and took him away. Everyone dispersed, leaving only Mason, who was still weeping buckets on the floor.

Returning home, Alicia brought the medical kit out only to see Frederick sit on the edge of the bed, still looking like a statue. The event earlier must've shaken him to his core. Quietly and even worried about startling him, Alicia rolled up his sleeve gently and wiped his arm with a damp towel before applying the ointment!

Coming back to reality as he felt the stinging sensation, Frederick pulled her hand and dragged her into his lap, nuzzling his head on her neck in search of warmth.

Hugging him, Alicia kissed him gently in his hair. "Surprised, huh?"

She really didn't expect Penny and Gary to go way back. The two looked almost like strangers on the surface; they didn't even talk during family gatherings, and she never thought there was anything strange between the two. Even more surprising, she actually used to have such an affectionate and selfless side!

The world sure was a melting pot. Everyone was as pure as the driven snow when they first entered, but no one will ever know how they would look when leaving. If the accident never happened, Christian and Penny would still be living happily, wouldn't they? In all honesty, she could tell there was still love between the two! Alas, with one mistake, everything was ruined!

Sure enough, it was better to love deeply. If she and Frederick reacted just as impulsively when they separated, they might not have as happy a life as they do now!

Alicia hugged tighter unknowingly. "Hubby, is this the ending you wanted?"

She was sure he could tell his father and stepmother still had feelings for each other even when she could, or he wouldn't still be silent when they came home! "I don't know!"

Sighing, he was a little lost for the first time. He was living his best life now. He used to think he'd be elated after finishing Steve and exposing Penny.

But when he saw his father's hoary and hunched back, he suddenly wondered if his methods had been too cruel!

Yes, Penny was bad and selfish and

had done wrong, but she was kind from how everything turned out earlier; at least, she was still nice to his father. No matter the reasons for her means and Steve's attack, they at least didn't injure his father too badly. Plus, hearing her confession, he had to admit, the despicable yet pitiable woman moved him.

His mother's death was the root cause of his regret and resentment, but his father's intentional and unintentional bias had also shaped her tragedy, no? Though the blood of the Clements family didn't run inside Mason, they've been a family for years still. He could tell his father aged in a heartbeat. He wasn't that at all happy about how everything turned out but instead had a heavy heart as he looked at his beloved wife and son while thinking of the past and Penny's words.

"Ally, let's not have any more misunderstandings between us. We'll talk about every issue, okay?"

If Penny spoke her thoughts or his father never lied, things wouldn't turn out like this!

"Okay!"

Cupping his cheeks, Alicia placed a gentle kiss on the tip of his nose.

"Hubby, everyone has to be

responsible for their actions, no? You couldn't have done anything about all that, nor were they your fault! You really don't have to feel guilty! Nothing can be kept a secret forever. Dad will know eventually, and he'll have to face it too! This may not have been the best way to learn about the secret, but he accepted it at least. And it has given him more time to think. As for what happens in the future, leave it for

him to decide!"

Soon, Steve was charged with possession of firearms, attempted murder, and other offenses, and the death sentence was announced quickly, making the headlines of the news. As for the Clements family, the drama had come to an end.
