Be My Man, Mr. Jenkins By Flora Julius

Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Arthur nodded.

“What if something happens?”

Arthur lifted his eyebrow and said, “You have me.”

Arthur’s words touched Adriane. She blinked with her pretty eyes, “Artie, why do you promise to protect me always?”

“Does he like me a little now because I’m kind of pretty?” wondered Adriane.

Before Adriane could be happy that Arthur liked her, Arthur said coldly, “It’s like you have to ask the owner’s permission to touch his pet.”

Adriane was speechless. Anger surged her as she thought, “Who is he describing as a pet? He is annoying. I’m not going to talk to him until he apologizes

to me.”

Arthur gazed at the girl’s grin fading away as she walked upstairs immediately after he spoke. He tried calling Adriane, but she ignored him.

Bang!

She slammed her room door so hard that even Arthur could hear it from the first floor. After entering her room, she stomped her foot and blasted what she could not say in front of Arthur, “A man who doesn’t know what’s romantic. Serves you right for being single all your life!”

Arthur was still single when she died at her last birth. The most popular rumor circulating then was that he was single because he was not fond of

Women

If Adriane could transmigrate back to her past life, she would tell everyone, “No! Arthur is single because he is annoying. It’s a pity for anyone who

marries him!”

Arthur’s gaze turned cold, and he pondered for quite some time before he could guess why Adriane was mad at him.

At the thought of the girl who trembled at the sight of him at the engagement party, Arthur curled his lips helplessly and said, “That little girl’s temper

has grown.”

After venting her frustration, she searched for the orphanage she lived in through the phone. But there was not much information about it.

She searched for her biological mother’s name, Reese Gadson, but still found nothing.

The only two items her mom left for her and Rebel had taken them. Adriane had no other way to investigate her family background.

Just as frustration overtook Adriane, she heard something smashed to the wall. It seemed to be from the next door,

Ignoring her anger, Adriane put on her slippers and strode to Arthur’s room.

Arthur’s room door was left ajar. There was another woman in a nurse uniform in Arthur’s room, other than Yael and Arthur. Adriane had never seen her

before.

The nurse was quite pretty and had light makeup on. She turned around and observed Adriane.

An abnormal tense atmosphere filled Arthur’s room. Arthur was squinting his eyes, and there were porcelain shards on the ground with a large stain on

the wall.

The nurse was different from Tom. She had no intention of greeting Adriane. Instead, she ignored Adriane and focused on Arthur, “Mr. Arthur, I’m Dr. White’s assistant. You have to trust me or at least my professionalism.”

Carefully, Adriane popped her head into the room through the door and asked, “Artie, can come in?”

Arthur said nothing. So, Adriane took it as he agreed. Then, she walked towards Yael and saw his hesitation. She asked, “What’s going on here?”

Chapter 25

Arthur had warned Yael after he told Adriane why Arthur was wet in the rain. Since then, he did not dare tell Adriane anything unless Arthur permitted

him to do so.

However, the woman dressed as a nurse looked at Adriane and said, “Are you the patient’s family member71 am Dr. White’s assistant, Wendy Carter. Please ask Mr. Arthur to cooperate with me.”

Adriane looked at Arthur and answered, “Hello, Miss Carter, what do you want him to cooperate with?”

“Dr. White has a busy schedule today. So, I came to help Mr. Jenkins with his physiotherapy. I want to take him to the rehabilitation room.”

Arthur had reconstructed a part of the third floor of the mansion into a rehabilitation room. However, Adriane had never been there.

Adriane was polite to Wendy because she was a medical staff, “He had a serious fever and had just recovered. Can he rehabilitate so soon?”

Wendy was getting a little impatient, “There is no burden in doing some upper limb physiotherapy. Why can’t he do it?”

Adriane was a little puzzled when she heard what Wendy said. She wondered, “So, is Arthur throwing his tantrum again and refusing to do his

treatment?”

Yael saw that Adriane might have misunderstood what happened. He could not remain silent anymore and explained, “It’s not Mr. Arthur refusing to do his physiotherapy. It’s Miss Wendy. She wants to help Mr. Arthur get onto his wheelchair.”

His voice was softer as he explained. After finishing his words, he even glanced at Arthur to make sure Arthur was not mad.

Adriane’s gaze on Wendy was not as calm as before anymore. She thought, “What is this woman up to?”

“Can’t you help Arthur like always?” Adriane asked Yael.

Wendy interrupted Adriane, “Are you a doctor, or am I a doctor? It would be better if I helped Mr. Arthur with his wheelchair.”

It was the first time Adriane met someone unreasonable like Wendy. Although she did not know much about medicine and nursing, she did not trust

Wendy.

Adriane was sure of one thing. Arthur did not want Wendy to have skin contact with him. So, Adriane decided to end this, “Since Dr. White is not available today, Arthur will not do his physiotherapy today. Please ask Miss Carter to leave.”

Anger shot through Wendy, “You can’t ask me to leave. Isn’t it irresponsible for you to say that and neglect Mr. Arthur’s health condition? Don’t you want

him to heal soon?”

Arthur would not have tolerated Wendy so long if it were not for Tom. His patience was at its limit when he heard Wendy scolding Adriane.

“Bodyguards…”

Arthur was about to call his bodyguards to shove Wendy out of his mansion when Adriane spoke out, “It’s not your concern even if I don’t care about his health condition. As a family member, I have the right to question your professionalism. Please go back.”

Wendy looked at Adriane and Arthur, who had a cold gaze. She knew it would be difficult for her to finish her mission that day.

However, she had worked hard to apply for the position of Tom’s assistant. It would be difficult for her to get another chance to get near Arthur if she

gave up now.

So, Wendy suppressed her anxiety and lied with a stern look on her face, “A softer woman must support him according to Mr. Arthur’s condition. That is a new treatment we have developed.”

Adriane was the only woman in the mansion except for Wendy.

Unexpectedly, Adriane immediately said, “Okay, I will do it.”

Wendy sneered and thought, “Do you think Arthur will let you touch him? He doesn’t even let a nurse touch him. I had only touched his arms, and he threw a teacup at me. The teacup might have ruined my face if I had not dodged it in time. I’ll never retreat until I finish what I came for.”

Chapter 28

Arthur did not expect Adriane would say that too. He watched as Adria approached him, step by step.

Arthur’s legs were weak, and he could not support his body with them. Even though he did lose plenty of weight in the past six months, he was still heavy. Arthur doubted if Adriane could help him to his wheelchair with her skinny and weak arms.

He put on a cold face and was about to ask Adriane to go away. But before he could do so, he heard Adriane apologizing to him and took off the blanket covering his leg. Then, Adriane carried him in her arms before he could even react.

Indeed! Adriane carried Arthur in her arms.

Yael’s jaw dropped. Wendy’s eyes widened in disbelief

The wheelchair was right beside Arthur’s bed. Adriane turned around and placed Arthur steadily in his wheelchair. The whole process only took less than

three seconds.

There was a moment of dead silence in Arthur’s room. Adriane lifted her head after placing Arthur m his wheelchair and then asked Wendy. “He is in his

wheelchair is that fine now?”
