Chapter 21 Titania
I felt him. I felt his magic when he touched me. I could feel it running through me, I could feel my fingers moving slightly. I just needed strength, and he gave me some of his.
Shane
I walked straight into the corner of the room, disappearing into the shadows. I walked through the black maze until I reached the kings chambers. I stepped out of the shadows, startling the king and his son. I didn’t like either of them – they sent not only Titania, but many more off to the labs – but this had to be done.
The king cleared his throat, “Shane. I didn’t expect to see you here for another few hours.”
The prince had his hand on his sword, I smirk slightly – he couldn’t take me even if he had an army.
The king put his hand on his son’s wrist. “He is here to make a proposition.”
I nodded, “I am. Your father was the one who came to me.”
The prince’s face contorted, “Get on with it then.”
I smiled innocently, “Of course. The labs are beginning to fill. Magic is beginning to pop up all over the place. I have something that can help you control it, without killing them or sending them away to get tortured. I have a small area in the middle of nowhere. It’s a sanctuary for those with… gifts. You find those who are magic, I can take them to a place where they can learn to control and harness their powers. Or you can send women and children to their deaths and worse. I have been working on this for years now, with my apprentice. It’s foolproof.”
The king thought for a little while, “And what do you plan to do with them?”
“I plan to let them live, for one. And I plan to teach them all I, and some others know.”
“How do you know it will work, what about young children? What about education?”
I smiled, “Sire, we have already tested this. We have a child there already – her name is Katy. She is intelligent, and has become the librarian.”
The king waved his hand, “Let us think about it. Leave now please.”
And I took a step back and disappeared into the shadows. And appeared in the hallway.
Two hands grabbed me and two fists hit my face. Everything was black. The fists kept punching me. I swiped at the air, making two strips of darkness turn into blades. I dodged the punches and flipped the person who was holding me over my head. He hit the floor with a grunt and a blindly swiped the other man with the blades. I felt the knives hit flesh once, twice, before I heard the satisfying ‘thump’ of his body hitting the ground. I picked up the first man off the floor by his shirt collar and pinned him against the wall, “Who are you?”
The man whined, “The Black Magi sent us.”
“To do what? Kill me?” no, they knew that wouldn’t be possible.
The man struggled and whined again, “No. They just wanted us to knock you out and bring you back to them. They are paying anyone who can do it to try. Please man, don’t kill me. I’m just trying to make a living!”
I let go of him, walking away from the scene. “Clean him up.” I said, gesturing to the bleeding man on the floor.
Bridgette ran into me – literally – and held out a book in front of her face so that the pages faced me. “I found a way to wake her up!”
Best new I had heard all day.
“We just have to give her our power.”
“What?” I said sharply.
“Don’t act like you don’t have enough. We need to help her.”
“Trust me, I know. But how do we give her our power? It’s not like we can just, pass it to her in a little box with a pretty ribbon.”
Bridgette passed the book to me and crossed her arms, “We only have to touch her.”
Titania
Shane and Bridgette entered the room in a hurry, waking my father. They both grabbed my hands and closed their eyes – they looked like idiots. I felt it again. The magic passing through me and bringing me to life. I felt my fingers twitch and my feet move slightly. Shane’s hand squeezed mine and I closed my hand around his. I saw him smile and I could move my legs. Then, he lifted me up into a sitting position and embraced me. I felt my body come to life. I could move my limbs as his power rushed through my blood.
“Hey, I knew we could make it out.” I said.
