Chapter 14 - ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE
Brandi's POV
"Dad!" I cried, startled slightly.
"Brandi, I'm glad you came home to me. I knew you would though, I prayed for it." He said softly.
"I'm not staying Dad. Just came to collect my things. I thought you wouldn't be home until lunch time." I said, my eyes darting everywhere, wondering where Byron was.
"NO!" My father shouted, making me jump.
I started to back away in the direction of the front door. My father smiled at me, waving a set of keys in front of him.
"You can't get out Brandi, I locked the deadbolt. It will remain that way until you've completely forgotten about that mutt!" He said fiercely, his lips snarling with the last word.
"Mutt? How dare you call him that Dad! You don't know him! I'll never forget about him! Ever!" I cried, tears welling up in my eyes.
He took a step towards me ashe pushed the keys down into his pants pocket, smiling as he looked back up at me.
"Oh Brandi, I know everything about him. I know he's a wolf, I know about his pack. I know your meant to be his. I know it all Brandi. Just as I know he's gone now, and you'll never see him again!" He laughed.
I looked at my father, shocked at his words. How did he know? What did he do? Oh Byron, where are you?
"Wait, what--what--?" I stammered.
"I bet you're wondering how I know? You see, when your mother and I had been married for 2yrs, she came across a homeless man. He had amnesia, left to fend for himself on the streets, and for some reason your mother couldn't explain, she felt drawn to help him. She told me there was something about him that she couldn't explain, but she knew she had to help him. At first, I thought it was just her kind nature, wanting to help the lost and all that, but after digging into this guys past, I came across his pack. I researched for months, finding out as much as I could." He explained.
My mind reeled. My Dad knew about wolves and stuff all this time? I started to feel nauseous, the room starting to spin as I stepped back, sagging against the wall.
"When I found out about true mates, I wondered if that may have been the reason your mother had felt drawn to him. I knew the longer they spent together, the chance of them mating and him marking her would happen. Then I'd lose her. I couldn't let that happen. I couldn't lose my angel. So, I killed him. Injected him with silver and removed his heart. Your mother thought he just left one day, she was sad for a while, but then a year later, she discovered she was pregnant with you. And finally, we were the happy family I had always wanted." He said.
As my father's words sunk in, I let myself slide down the wall till I hit the floor. Tears streaming from my eyes as the realisation that my father, regardless of being a preacher, was not as sin free as he made out. He killed someone, wolf or not, no one has the right to take a life, not even him. Panic started to fill me as I wondered what he had done to my Byron. Oh, my beautiful sweet wolf.
Byron's POV
I groaned as I tried to open my eyes, wondering why I was finding it so hard to do. The last thing I remembered was waiting for Brandi to finish in the bathroom when I heard a clicking sound coming from the door of her bedroom. The thought of my sweet kitten made my eyes fly open, my vision blurred as I tried to look around the room.
I tried to sit up, groaning as I felt resistance around my wrists, a slight sizzling sound filled the room as my flesh burnt there. I looked down and realised I was cuffed to a table by both wrists and ankles with cuffs made out of pure silver. I was only wearing my boxer briefs, my clothes gone as I struggled to break free. I could feel a sudden sadness take over me, my heart constricting as I realised what it was.
"Brandi!" I cried out, my voice deep and throaty as I struggled even more to get free.
"Get out! True mate is sad! She needs us! NOW!" My wolf growled.
I growled as I pulled on the restraints harder, ignoring the searing pain and sizzling skin the silver cuffs caused. I could see one of the cuffs was starting to come loose so I kept working on it with all my might, crying out in victory as the link that held it to the table snapped, freeing my left arm. Just then I heard the click of a door. I slipped my hand back in the cuff, making it look like I was still nice and secure before laying still.
I waited as I heard footsteps heading towards me until I finally got a look at who it was.
"You!" I grunted as Brandi's father came into view.
He laughed as he picked up the large syringe that was sitting on a small tool table just a few feet to my right.
"Yes! Me! Welcome to the end mutt!" He cried.
I looked at this man, my head spinning as I realised what he meant. He was going to kill me!
"Nooo!" I cried, "Brandi--"
I was rewarded with a slap across the face, almost causing me to let it be known I was loose.
"No, not yet! We need to know his plan!" My wolf growled.
"Don't you fucking dare speak her name mutt! I saved my wife from the likes of you, now I'm going to save my daughter!" He yelled.
His wife? What the hell did that mean, and what was he going to do you him, to Brandi? My wolf started to snarl as I thought about him hurting my kitten.
