Chapter 25 — The Middle Witch
Tar's POV
The bastard was finally dragged in.My eyes studied him from across the room. My hands inching to learn the truth. He knew where my son was as well as Prince Azian, and that Traitor Abigail, At least so he claimed. Clenching my jaw tightly, I watched the guards roughly push him in front of us and made him kneel before us. My blood boiled.
The man was dirty, and his clothes were bloody, his hands were tightly bound by chord that was clearly digging through his flesh, and had a few cuts on his arms and legs, with blood stains on his nose. He looked.....
Pathetic.
If that's what the people over the boarder looked like, we were sure to win this battle.
He was shorter than most of us, slightly darker skin, long light brown hair, and hazel eyes and had quite the body, fit in all the right places, but he still managed to look pathetic and weak.
The king grunted causing me to look over at him.
He gave me a slight nod his eyes conveying the message and I nodded back slowly standing up, my eyes studying the stranger before us.
He would be an easy prey.
He certainly looked like Abigail, in terms of how small and puny he felt compared to us.
I felt flame itching to get his hands on the boy before us, yes boy, he was no older than thirty.
"Speak" I commanded standing before him. My tall frame hanging over him, so he was completely engulfed in my shadow.
I could see him shudder as he slowly looked up to face me, his body tilting to the right as he took me in.
His eyes widened and fear crossed them, twice. There was a slight silence as his eyes darted around the room then back to me uncomfortable I could hear how fast his heart was pounding and how uncertain he felt. He should be. He had just walked in the dragon's den.
I gritted my teeth pulling him up by the neck with my good arm, till he could stand up, then higher so his feet were barely touching the ground.
He stared back at me in complete shock and awe making a few choking noises but did not resist as I brought him up to me, face to face.
He really was pathetic, I could easily crush him with a slight squeeze, and I was a giant compared to him.
"Speak" I repeated gruffly flame blowing hot hair all over his face as I spoke.
This seemed to surprise him even further as the hot air stung his fresh cuts all over his face making him wince, coughing a few times as I let go, letting him drop harshly onto the ground.
He gasped for air, clutching his chest and then rubbing his neck.
"M-my n-name is M-Michael," he stuttered, taking in a deep breath, his body positioned in a low bowing position, and his eyes darting around all of us.
"Michael" I repeated, my time held no respect, only spite, "I hope for your sake you know where you are," I continued, cracking my neck.
He glanced up at me, taking one good look at my face, his next action was a clear sign he knew I was not one to be messed with.
He scooted slowly away from me his eyes stuck on the ground, "Y-yes I am aware" he replied.
I grinned evilly, "Now I know, you would like to live, so I'm going to ask you once,"
He nodded profusely.
"Where is our Prince and my son?!" I bellowed the ground shaking at my tone.
Flame hated the fact that he didn't know where Edwin was and felt very angry that he had lost the golden prince, it only meant that we had failed in our duties to protect. And I NEVER fail.
The boy called Michael winced, his eyes darting around the tent walls that were now shaking slightly from the vibrations I was sending.
The king, Queen, Hydras and Elzar were unshaken but the some of the guards looked unsure of themselves.
Yohan seemed to maintain his blank expression.
"They are all okay, I-I s-swear, Edwin, Abigail and the young prince. I assure you n-nothing is going to harm them, as they are currently under the p-protection of the mother witch, Abigail, t-they will be safe" he managed to say.
I growled at the mention of her name making him lean back, "Abigail is a Traitor!" I roared.
His eyes darted back to me, as soon as those words left my mouth.
I was surprised when they held no fear as he spoke, "Abigail, our protector is no traitor, if it wasn't for her, I fully understand that neither Edwin nor The young prince will be alive, if it were not for her, only the fates know what ill would have befallen them," he bravely replied.
Where he got all the confidence from all of a sudden was a mystery.
Abigail, a mother witch? The way he spoke about her held so much respect...too bad I was going to kill her myself.
My eyes darted back to Michael, I was going to teach him to never cut me off when the Queen spoke,
"How can we trust that the boys are okay in her hands when she betrayed us?" She asked quietly her eyes studying him.
Michael looked between the queen and me, biting his lip.
"The queen asked you a question runt, "a hydra spoke up, and his tone was bitter and heavy.
Michael shifted but nodded, "your majesty, I understand you were the one that helped her escape by the secret portal in the east wing,"
"Correct"
"You also said that she should take the boys to the human realm"
The queen paused, "I did"
"Your Majesty, as I am currently speaking both Azian and Edwin are in the human world with the mother witch,"
At those words I could see every one surprised.
Human world? My boy is in another realm?
"She took them to the human world?" Elzar asked as if in deep thought, his eyes widening in surprise.
Michael nodded, "I will not lie to you, your highness. I do admit Abigail did come here into your kingdom with the intention of killing the golden dragon,"
The king growled his eyes getting darker. Michaels eyes rested on the king, "However, for some reason during her time here, she just could not, the mother witch, is a kind woman, good and just, I know her personally, Abigail is my wife's best friend and like a sister to me," he quickly added gauging the king's reaction which seemed to get darker by the second.
"After the death of our former p-protector," he continued his eyes still focused on the king, "
at a young age, it became her responsibility to protect our kingdom seeing that our king is good for nothing," he said bitterly,
"And with the prophecy, as mother witch, it was her duty to protect, but we all know the mother witch is not capable of evil, that is why she could not bring herself to kill the boy, and instead vowed to protect him." Everything was quiet for a moment.
"We cannot seriously take his word for it," Hydra Rey began eyeing all of us, "for all we know he could be lying, He has no proof he speaks the truth,"
"I do," the boy interrupted earning a deadly glare from all the hydras.
He scooted in his kneeling position uncomfortably.
"I understand you are Edwin's father," he began tilting his head to face me.
I held no answer only glared back at him, my nostrils flaring at the mention of my missing son.
"I assume that means you are, I owe Edwin my life, he brought me back from the dead,"
Everybody paused at the sound of this.
What? Edwin?

He would never do that unless it was for a good reason.
I glanced up at the queen and I could tell she was thinking the same.
I taught my son well, I knew that. They could not have possibly tortured him to do so, my son was taught endurance till the end.
"My son, raised you?" I asked slowly.
He nodded, "I died, trying to protect my wife from some guards who were disgracing the name of the mother witch by claiming she had switched sides and was now helping yours, of course they were right as I come to see it now, but then, I could not believe that she would betray us. So, I was killed, but was brought back by Edwin, as a favor to my wife who pleaded for his help, After I was brought bac, death granted me my immortality and told me I had a purpose, to get the young prince, your son, Abigail, and my wife to the human world which I did, and two, to come here and warn the dragons to not begin this war,"
Another silence.
How did he know we were to begin the war?
"And why should we not? We do not know who attacked us till date and we shall not wait like cowards till they strike again" The king demanded.
The tent suddenly grew colder as the wind ripped harshly around us.
The king was using the air element again.
We all agreed to this as Michael spoke, " Firstly, your majesty, because you will not win,"
I scoffed, "we surely would. You and your people are pathetic,"
"Yet the fates and those who know ahead, say otherwise, granted we will not win as well, still, this realm will lay in ruins, if the golden prince does not lead you into battle, you will not win" Another silence.
"He is right" Elzar spoke up. We all glanced at him.
He sighed, "As much as I hate to admit it, the boy's right. It is not our destiny to lead our forces into battle, we cannot cheat fate, or purpose."
Michael nodded, "and secondly, I happen to know who attacked you..." He paused.
The king looked at him anxiously.
All our eyes snapping back to him.
"They are vampires, King Alec," he informed.
The king stood up at the mention of that name, how he detested it.
"And his army, combined with that of the four kingdoms, Lycans and werewolves, winged men, witches, vampires."
"Winged men" a hydra muttered underneath his breath.
How we despised those traitors.
Vampires. It did answer the fact that they had been abnormally fast, and pale.
I had never seen a vampire before that day, but during our training, every dragon was taught about all other supernatural creatures, so though we did not know how they looked like, we could describe how they were. The king looked down from his high place to the prisoner, "I still do not trust you," he claimed folding his hands on his chest.
Michael breathed out nervously, a look of defeat crossing his features.
"Well, I have a solution to that," I began feeling my hands itching.
All the attention was back on me.
I saw Michael gulp slowly from the corner of my eye, as I slowly made my way to Yohan.
His eyes widened as I stopped in front of him, I was taller than all the men here, so I easily towered over him, my eyes focusing on his.
I stepped closer to him and felt his breath hitch, we were only a breath apart. I smirked grabbing his sword from his sheath.

He looked bewildered as I stepped away from him with his sword in my hand turning back to Michael.
I glanced at the king, "he claimed he was saved by death. Did he not my lord?" I asked before turning back to Michael.
"He did" king Saga replied.
"Then let's test that theory, shall we?" I asked my eyes burning holes into his body, I lifted the sword and in one swift swing slit his throat.
Blood spluttered all around as he fell lifelessly to the floor, writhing profoundly for a few seconds before lying without the breath of life running through his veins.
He remained that way, his skin turning pale as the blood oozed to the floor.
I threw the sword back to Yohan, "dump this trash" I ordered glancing back at the dead body before walking back to my seat.
Everyone was shocked for a minute, mute and speechless, before Yohan and another guard moved to collect the body.
I watched as they began to lift him up, he had seemed to be speaking the truth, but witches were masters of deceit.
I learnt from the best. Abigail.
I gritted my teeth as Yohan and another guard lifted the bleeding body.
"Well that was a complete waste of time don't you think brothers?' Hydra Pete asked as the rest of the hydras nodded.
The queen glanced over at me patting my hand, and I gave her an assuring glance.
We would start this war, and we would find the prince and my son and Abigail would be the first to die.
Suddenly someone broke into a round of coughs.
My eyes darted around the tent, my heart picking up by a millisecond as they rested on the 'should be' dead body of the boy Michael.
We all turned to face the body as Yohan and the other guy dropped it abruptly taking a step back.
"That hurt, dang it!" Michael screeched rubbing his neck as he sat up, the blood painting his neck red.
He glared at me, "I hope you can provide me with some clean clothes because you messed these ones up."
What was going on?
He was...alive?
This could only mean...
Michael had really met my son, been blessed by death, and had spoken the truth.
Which means Abigail is not a traitor, sure she deceived me, but she was still protecting my son and our prince. Suddenly I felt something I hadn't experienced in a long time.
I felt light.
"Well?" He asked taking in our shocked faces.
The king and I exchanged glances.
"Clean him up" the king ordered, his face showing how relieved he was.
At least we knew two things.
The boys were okay.
And we could trust Abigail.
I smiled.
