Azian Prince of Dragons

Chapter 11 — Castle

Abigail's POV

I played with my fingers nervously humming a little tune to keep me calm as the carriage started off. The royal carriage was white with a golden dragon crest on its side. Seated next to me was Edwin.

Tar was seated opposite us with a parchment in his hands.

Edwin couldn't keep his excitement in as he kept on twitching and twisting in his seat.

Clearly he was excited to meet his friend.

I looked out the window still softly humming an ancient lullaby my aunt always used to sing to me when I was little. I felt very nervous.

In these last two weeks I had spent in the dragon settlement, I learnt a few things about the dragon community.

Firstly, the large dragon village we currently were situated in was Gard (pronounced guard).

Much to my dismay, it wasn't the only dragon village in this vast forest. There was another large village called Urth (pronounced earth), and two smaller villages, Jeyga and Acan.

There were about a thousand men living in Gard and expected the same for Urth. I shuddered at the thought of even just a hundred dragons in Riota. That would be the beginning of the end. Talk about a thousand. That would be its extinction.

My people were not prepared for a battle against the dragons.

No one even knew of the dragon's existence apart from the kings and some guards. Nobody knew what awaited them.

I knew there were about ten thousand dragon men in this forest, maybe a thousand in the two large villages and five hundred in the smaller ones, plus their families. Only Erania could save us now, even if she seemed against us. Another thing I learned about the dragons was that they were not allowed to transform in the villages unless there was an emergency which had never really ever happened.

Every night they would go hunting to let their dragons roam freely.

It wasn't compulsory or anything, it was up to you and your dragon.

I of course would usually sleep early and say I'm exhausted or hide in the woods for a few hours near the village.

One time Edwin and his father invited me to hunt.

I had to lie and say I was not feeling well.

I knew that Tar was suspecting me of something, but I also knew that he would not go as far as to think I came from outside the forest.

No one had a clue that the outside world knew of their existence and was plotting every single moment to destroy them.

I should have felt relieved. We had the element of surprise at least over them but deep inside I also pitied them.

I had actually come to like the dragons.

I know it was wrong, but they were somewhat nice to me, accommodating me.

I had even started to see the pillow side of Tar; Edwin had talked about. He was actually also warming up to me though I knew he didn't trust me. Partly because I didn't tell him of my origins when he asked me. I couldn't.

I had never seen Tar transform before and I am so grateful for that. But usually, every other night I would peek out of my bedroom door and see Tar and Edwin walking past in nothing but some ripped shorts.

Tar was the king's favorite subject I suppose, or he would never be at the castle every day.

I also noticed how everyone gave respect to Tar whenever he walked, nodding some stopping to give him way. I came to learn he had come from the line of the first fire dragons and was stupidly big and scary as a dragon. No one dared defy him, except the king...

He was the king of course.

He never smiled outside the cottage.

He always had a scary and intimidating scowl on demanding authority.

But at home he was casual, especially around his son.

The king and queen of the dragons' names were King Saga and Queen Rebecca, I heard the King had remarried a few years ago after the first queen's death.

I didn't really ask what happened to the first queen because I knew it would look suspicious.

How could I not know of a deed like that if she had died a few years ago? Then I would really look suspicious.

"Edwin!" Tar yelled pulling me out of my thoughts. The carriage hit a bump and sent our butts soaring before crashing back on the soft leather seats.

Tar looked at Edwin sternly, but Edwin only smiled back cheekily.

He picked up the scroll that was on the floor of the carriage. I realized he hadn't had it in his hands when we hit the bump. I guessed Edwin had kicked it out of his hands with all his fidgeting.

"Would you just sit still? We're going to the palace, you will see his highness so just relax,"

"But I can't," Edwin whined, "I'm just so excited" his feet were softly stomping on the carriage floor.

Tar sighed.

"Keep that excitement for later Edwin, you'll need all that energy later when you two play" I eased trying to play the part of the responsible watcher. Edwin paused for a second as if in deep thought.

"Papa,"

"mmm" Tar grunted still looking down at his scroll "Why doesn't Azian shift?"

Tar looked up suddenly, as if taken aback.

"Who told you that?" Tar asked his dark eyes shifting from me to Edwin making me feel uncomfortable.

Edwin shrugged, quite unaffected by his father's stern look.

"he never does, he just watches me play, when I ask him to play hunt he just shrugs and say I should go ahead, "

Tar clenched his jaw.

"Maybe he just doesn't want to play" he finally replied Edwin frowned, "why not? You said yourself I'm his best friend,"

Tar sighed holding the bridge of his nose, "I don't mean that, maybe he was just tired."

"Every single time?! What do they do to him in that big house to make him tired ever single da—"

"Stop it Edwin!" Tar interrupted his voice filling the carriage shaking it.

My hands tightened over the side of the carriage.

"What did I tell you about the castle? What happens with you me and everyone else inside the castle..."

"Stays in the castle," Edwin whined probably sad that his father had gotten angry.

Tars eyes met mine, "you," he began, "Do. Not speak of this to anyone. If you do I will find out and it won't be pretty" he threatened scaring the hell out of me.

I could feel the tears pushing under my eyelids. I was already scared and nervous before but now I felt frightened. I nodded quickly looking away from him.

I looked ahead my hands sweaty sneaking a look back at Tar who was still staring at me. When our eyes met again this time it was him to look away back down at the scroll he was reading.

Strange. Tar never broke contact first. Maybe he saw I was on the verge of tears. I just really wanted this day to end quickly.

I could feel the blush on my cheeks. Edwin seemed to notice because he whispered in my ear, "pillow"

I blushed again but luckily Tar didn't hear or look up... At least I think he didn't.

Finally, I felt the carriage begin to slow down. I peeped out the window and saw the gates of the castle, old but magnificent, though they did look dull.

The castle was actually much farther than it looked when entering Gard, seeing that we had crossed two hills and a field before reaching it. It was strange. I knew the Ignere forest was large... But not this large. It seemed to go on and on... It would clear vastly then more trees would show...

It was like its own mini kingdom... With too many trees.

As the gates began to open I felt my hands become much sweatier, shaking a little.

Today would be the day I ended all this. I don't know if I would make it out of here alive after I kill the prince. But I didn't care.

Just as long as my people would be safe from the dragon. Especially Anna, oh sweet Anna, I hope she didn't worry about me too much, but of course she did.

I had been away for two weeks and a half, she probably is worried sick.

But she will understand after I complete my task... I'll keep her and her baby safe, my people, and I'll get my revenge.

My sweet revenge. But right now, it didn't feel so sweet. I felt so nervous.

"Don't worry Abigail, I know the palace looks so dull and scary outside but it's nice inside" Edwin eased taking my hand.

He probably must have seen the look of worry on my face.

Tar had noticed to because he was staring at me again.

"I-I'm fine" I stuttered.

Edwin squeezed my hand tightly, "oh you'll love it! I swear! Especially Azi-"

"Prince Azian" Tar corrected.

Edwin rolled his eyes, but nevertheless, he controlled himself.

"You will love the castle Abigail, especial, Prince Azian, he is the best of it all"

I nodded smiling weakly my hand reaching into the small leather bag I had carried with me.

I felt for it, my hands feeling the bag till my fingers touched it.

The enchanted knife I would use to kill the dragon prince.

One strong stab, right into his little heart.

I stood right outside the castle... It was large and tall.

I wondered how we couldn't see it from outside the forest, clearly it was way taller than the trees...I guess it was magic. Too Many mysteries.

I was also wondering about what Edwin had said before, what did he mean when he said Prince Azian couldn't shift?

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a warm body towering over me. I knew it was Tar, he was extremely huge.

"Forgive me," he said softly.

His deep voice ringing in my ear.

I thought I was dreaming. What just happened? Was Tar apologizing? To me? Heaven must have fallen.

Edwin was still getting something from the carriage when tar was standing next to me...

"Mm?" I hummed, turning around to face Tar.

I was shocked at what I saw. He was blushing! Like a red tomato. It did not suite him well at all, looking at his size. But it made me feel warm inside.

"I um..."

Another first.. He didn't have anything to say? Was he stuttering? I looked to the sky. Nope heaven was still intact. Maybe hell was opening, I looked to the ground... Nope... Still intact.

"What father means to say is he wants to apologize for losing his temper on you" Edwin explained suddenly standing right beside his father, "right father?" Edwin asked with an amused look on his face. Edwin looked down at his son.

"Well?" I asked bravely, yet my eyes shifted between them uncomfortably. Tar still scared me.

His eyes floated back to me, rubbing the back his neck hesitantly. "Papa!" Edwin screeched

"Yes. That's right... I shouldn't have yelled at you like that, I think you've proven you're a good woman, and Edwin really likes you, you're the first watcher he has kept for so long.. I could have been a little....nicer" Edwin cleared his throat eyeing his father.

"A lot nicer" Tar corrected.

I thought it was cute how Edwin and Tars relationship worked and quite funny actually. A man as large as him listening to his seven-year-old boy.

Edwin nudged his father's hand.

"And so, I-I apologize" he finished.

I knew that took a lot for him to apologize. He was a tiny bit arrogant at times... Okay he was a lot of times. Very full of pride. So, this apology really did mean something. Something good.

So good it made blush, stupid body!

"You're forgiven I suppose" I replied failing to keep eye contact.

I saw him smile though, He actually smiled. First time he had smiled at me. He would usually smile at his son but not me. It made me feel... Light.

"General!" a voice called out.

I looked up at the castle doors which were now open, a young man in armor walking out. He saluted in front of Tar.

I looked at Tar who was back to being his old stubborn self with his usual scowl. Hard to believe he had been blushing a few seconds ago.

"The king requests your presence immediately, sir" the guard began.

Tar nodded "follow me" he said

As you reach the final pages, remember that 000005s.org is your destination for the complete story. Share the joy of reading with others and spread the word. The next chapter is just a visit away! I walked behind him into the gloomy castle. Surrounded by mist.

When we entered the castle it different from how it looked on the outside. It was magnificent.

It was warm and large. The hallway was covered in portraits of beautiful men and women with crowns. Extremely beautiful. It was true when the legends said the dragon race was a beautiful one. There were a few maids that scurried past us nodding our direction then giggling when Tar made eye contact with them.

I can't deny that Tar was very attractive with his perfect face and muscular figure.

I shook that thought away as we kept walking.

"Tar!" A silky voice called out.

I looked up to see who it was who had spoken so gracefully

It was one of the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, she had blue eyes and dark hair. She stood at a Perfect height with perfect posture. Her lips were plump with healthy cheeks and a womanly structure. The dress she wore was velvet and silky, following her curves though it wasn't tight and then hitting the ground gracefully.

Everything about her screamed perfection.

"My queen," Tar began bowing. The Queen.

I curtsied myself as well. I knew how to behave around royalty. Aunt Emma taught me well.

Even little Edwin did a little bow.

"It's been some time since I saw you little one" she said smiling down at Edwin who blushed a little.

She looked at me, eyeing me from head to toe making me blush.

"Who is this pretty apple?" she asked turning to me. Me? Pretty? Of course, but compared to her I was a hag.

"Abigail, your majesty" I replied bowing my head.

She smiled at me; her expression was kind.

"I see Edwin chased away another eh?" she asked amused as she turned to Tar.

Tar grinned. I ;noted that he actually smiled at her.

"Something like that,"

She bent down tickling Edwin's tummy so that he giggled,

"That's right my little Guardian, you keep them on their toes"

She stood up straight as Edwin managed to compose himself after the tickle. I could tell she was great with kids just like me.

"How is our little Prince doing today?" Tar asked, his voice lower.

Queen Rebecca sighed.

"He is doing better, Elzar has worked his magic on him. A bit sulky though, but I'm sure he will brighten up once he sees Edwin, that's his favorite little person" Edwin clapped his hands in glee.

"Can I see him now?"

"Edwin" Tar warned.

"Oh, let him be Tar, Azian will be just as excited to see Edwin. I did not tell him I invited him over. I want to surprise him. He hasn't smiled since yesterday. Tar nodded, taking his stern gaze off his son.

"Abigail and Edwin can come with me, the king is in the throne room..." Queen Rebecca informed, she then sighed "he is still worried and stressed," she warned. Tar nodded understandingly, "Thank you your highness"

She nodded motioning to us to follow her. Edwin let go of Tars hand and held the queens.

"Bye papa!" he waved.
