Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Katerina:

I sat on the couch, lost in the number of thoughts that I had in mind as I feared what was

to come.

One thing that I didn’t take into account was the fact that Nikolay was going to be more than willing to not only fight back, but he was going to be open to do it despite the idea of it most probably affecting the kids.

My phone rang, and I jumped, snapping out of my thoughts as I looked at the caller ID, thankful to know that it was Viktor.

“The man is going to come back, raging and ready for more of his fuss.” I said, choosing my words carefully. “He wasn’t very happy that we filed the divorce.”

“Of course, he wouldn’t be. He wanted to be the one to do it. When you did it, you just showed how low he was and you are proving to him and to everyone else, that he was more than willing to hurt everyone around. If he was the one to file it, you were going to be put in question.” He said, and I shook my head. Though I knew that he was right, I had to admit, I couldn’t help but find myself being worried.

“What if he takes the kids? He wants to fight back, and he knows that the kids are my weakness. They are too young to be without their mother and…”

“You are going to let go of the fact of fearing the idea of him taking them. Right now, you are going to focus on what is to come. I told you, he is going to use what he can to hurt you, and at this point, we all know that it is the kids. You will not show him that they are your weakness, and you are not going to give it to him to know that…”

“You know that a mother’s weakness is always her children. I am not going to allow him to

think…”

“Katerina, we can’t keep going back to square one whenever you’re done talking to him.” He said, stopping me. “Even if he does take the kids, you have to know that it is temporary. He is not going to take them for good. You are going to win this and the custody when they see that he has a mistress in his life. There are laws around and you are not going to be the one losing this.”

“What would happen to the kids if he takes them? Don’t get me wrong, but they’re infants.” I said, and he sighed.

It won’t be in his benefit to harm them. You can rest assured that until this divorce happens and until the custody deal is done, he is going to be very careful with them. They are going to be their safest with him to give a good impression and you are going to be able to regain the strength that you are clearly losing.” He said, and I clenched my fists. “When did he say that he would respond?”

“He said that I have till tomorrow. He would be taking the kids then and he would be sure that I regret ever thinking of filing the divorce. The issue isn’t about the divorce at this point, I am just worried that he might end up doing something that…”

“Trust that he is not going to do anything to the kids. And if he is threatening you, good, then he knows that he is going to lose. The man is not going to accept losing what he thinks he has, and you are fighting back in a way that he is not going to like.” He said, and I nodded despite him not being able to see me. “Let me know what happens, and don’t think that you are alone. If he fights, then we are going to fight back in his way. As I said, considering that he refused to have this in peace, then the two of us are going to need to think properly to ensure that YOU don’t lose what you are gaining.”

“While normally, I wouldn’t be asking for anything from him, I don’t want him to be the one gaining everything when he is aiming to break me in different ways.” I said, and Viktor took a deep breath. I could hear weights around him, and I frowned. “I am calling you and you are responding while you’re at the gym?”

“A phone call has never been something that stopped me from weight lifting, but yes, I am at the gym.” He said, and my eyes widened. “I doubt that you expected me to be in the office all day and night.”

“It is barely one. The kids aren’t even back from their daycare, and normally, these are working hours.” I said, and he chuckled.

“Considering that the office is MINE, by my name, and I am my own boss, I doubt that I am going to have a check in and out. Plus, you were my only client.” He said, and I raised an amused eyebrow as a small smile formed on my lips.

“And you just gave me your entire schedule.” I said, and he chuckled. “I’ll leave you to tend

to your thing while I find a way to clear my mind with my own. I will be sure to keep you posted on what happens, and if you are ever doing your own thing and I am bothering, you really don’t need to answer.”

He chuckled, and I waited as he let out a heavy breath. A bunch of weights hit the bars in the background and it was his next words that made me smile. Something that I haven’t truly done in a long time, unless I was around my kids, of course.

“You can call me whenever you need to. You are not disturbing, and I don’t see a reason to

why you might think that you are.” He said, his voice softening. “I’ll be waiting for your call,

Katerina…”
