Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Nikolay:

My phone rang, and I raised an eyebrow when I saw that it was Katerina calling.

“You finally gave in,” I said, answering the phone. She didn’t bother calling me since I left the house, and though I didn’t expect her to stay for this long, I was curious about what she had in mind.

“The kids have missed you being around, and the house hasn’t been the same without you being around.” She said, and I raised an eyebrow. I got up from the couch to see Katherine in the kitchen. She was sitting at the bar, drinking her cup of coffee while she looked at the maids that I hired, watching as they cleaned the mess that she made ‘trying‘ to cook her mac and cheese. The woman ended up burning it to the point where the house smelled like fire started in the apartment.

“I am going to pass by today,” I said, and she hummed in response.

“Alright, we’ll see you then.” She said, and I nodded, hanging up. I turned around to see Ashely raising an eyebrow at me. Her eyes met mine, and I shook my head in question.

“You are going back to her?” She asked, and I took a breath.

“She asked me to come. The kids miss my presence, and I am going to go and see them. Things are not going to be in our favor if I stay here without them seeing me, especially considering the fact that I am going to take the custody when are divorced.” I said, and she looked at me.

“Are you really sure that she is going allow you to take them? Katerina is not the type to just allow

someone…”

“I am not going to give her the choice. The two of us are going to negotiate about things, but I am not going to let her leave with the children. They are going to grow by my side, and I believe that if you give them siblings, they are going to grow closer to them.” I said, and her eyes widened.

“You’re planning for us to have children? She asked, and I nodded. I knew that Katerina wouldn’t be able to do so. And even if she wanted to, it was going to be harder for her to do so. I didn’t want to bother to think of asking about it.

“You are going to be my wife, aren’t you?I asked, teasing her. She blushed and nodded, taking a deep breath as to contain whatever she was feeling. “The two of us are going to be the family that would be happy together.”

I cupped her cheeks and kissed her temple, letting my lips linger there for a second. I had to ignore her perfume. It was strong and not my type, but I knew that she was doing her best. I wasn’t going to be arguing with her about it.

I pulled away and I walked toward the door, heading to my car, knowing that Alejandro would be waiting for me to go to work. I had a few things to take care of before going to the house, and I

knew that Katerina wouldn’t be expecting me to be home before a certain hour anyway.

“We are going to go home after work.” I said, looking at Alejandro through the rear mirror. It is time for me to see my children…”

“Katerina,” I said, looking at my wife as she stood, cutting onions with the maids. The kids were watching from a distance, talking, and playing with a few toys that they had on the table.

“Daddy!” Both Bianca and Andrew called, getting down from their chairs as they rushed toward me. I wrapped my arms around them, hugging them tightly. I kissed their temples, and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw how happy the two of them were.

Katerina didn’t say a word, and I ran my hands over my children’s hair, gently massaging their heads before I looked at my wife who didn’t bother approaching me. I walked toward her, the maids who were standing by her side stepped aside, leaving the two of us together.

“You called for me to come.” I said, my voice above a whisper as I looked at my wife

“I called for you to come because the kids missed your presence by their side. I did not intend to be by your side, nor do I want to see your face. She said, taking a step back. I watched as she took a step back, her eyes not meeting mine.

“I am still your husband, Katerina. The way that you’re acting…”

“I believe that you intend to file for a divorce, or am I wrong?” She asked, shaking her head in question. Her eyes didn’t meet mine, and I had to force myself to look away from her, knowing that she was more than a little annoyed with me. I wasn’t going to press on myself with the facts. I had other things to take care of, and right now, she was right, I was going to divorce her. I had no intentions to make things right with her.

“I will be in the room if you need anything. I am going to speak to my children, and I think that you are going to want to hear what I am going to tell them.” I said, and her eyes widened in surprise. She put the knife down and I watched as she walked toward me, her rage evident in her

eyes

“You are not going to bring the topic to the children. When it is time, we are going to speak to them about it, do you understand me? They are far too young to hear of this and they are not going to understand what you’re referring to.” She said, stopping me. I raised an amused eyebrow and shaking my head in question, I waited for what she was going to say. “The two of us are going to speak of this as adults, do you understand me? Keep the children away from this.”

“The children are going to find out sooner or later.” I said, taunting her. “But I will as you say. For now, we are going to keep this away from the children. At least, until things are settled between us.”

“They will be,she said, and I scoffed.

“And you are going to learn the hard way what it is to mess with me, Katerina.” I said, growing a lot more confident at her reaction. “And you are going to regret everything that you played, do you understand me, Katerina?”
