Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Katerina:
“What do you think of the house?” Nikolay asked as we walked inside. My heart skipped a beat at the beauty of it, but seeing as it was fully furnished, and the past that I knew he had with Anastasia and the number of houses that he got her, I couldn’t help but feel somewhat insecure about it. “I bought it a few days ago, I thought that you might like something different and out of the city’s air a bit. It would be around ten minutes from the nearest highway, I know, but the fresh air should help you out a lot.”
“It’s beautiful.” I said, looking around the place. The house was in an Estate where literally only three other Estates were there. I knew and could tell that one of them did not belong to a normal businessman. The man had to be a mafia. The number of people who saw us, eyeing us up and down as we entered our house was not normal, but Nikolay didn’t really seem to be worried about it. If anything, we had our own security men.
The windows were huge, something that I came to learn that Nikolay loved. For him, a room or a house could be small, and could barely have. one bed and closet inside. But as long as there was a big window that brought in some sunlight, he was more than happy to live in it, and was more than happy embracing whatever he got from it. I had to admit, it was something that the two of us had in common. Despite my parent’s opinions, I was always one to like having big window which I always opened first thing in the morning. Thankfully, the one place that they did allow me the freedom of working on for myself was my room. It was the ONE place that they allowed me to do what I wanted without anyone. telling me to follow whatever it was they had as rules, and of the things that I made sure to have were two big windows that had beautiful views of the back garden and the city side. The windows were blinding, meaning that no one could see me from the outside, and yet, I could see everything on the inside. It was one of the only reasons that dad agreed on me having something like this, and needless to say, the man did do his ‘inspections.
“We can refurnish it if you don’t like the things. For now, I just want you to

settle and rest. Then we can do the rest. The men and girls are here at your service as well, and…”

“Nikolay, what is going on?” I asked, stopping him. He froze, frowning, in confusion and I shook my head. The man has been acting odd for weeks, if anything, he seemed more broken that we were here on our own. It was as if this was not what he dreamed of, or something that he hated happened, though what it was, I didn’t understand. But I could read it in his eyes that there was something bothering him, and it was starting to bother me as well.
“What?” He asked, frowning in confusion at my question.
“You, what is going on with you? You are acting as if the two of us just met yesterday, and you’re just off. You have been since the hospital, but now that we are here, alone and together, you literally just off.” I said, and to say that I didn’t expect his reaction would be an understatement. I was just thankful that I was able to walk around on my own, despite being as tired and fatigue as I was, rather than need him. His eyes which held sympathy earlier, were as cold as ice, and I couldn’t help but wonder whether whatever he was showing me was a mere act of pity.
“I don’t think that I need to explain to you how I am feeling and how I am not. You of all people should be well aware of why I am doing what I am, and if anything…”
“You are not making any sense.” I said, stopping him, trying to talk some senses into whatever it was that he was saying. I was sure that he wasn’t being logical, and I personally didn’t mind giving him the chance to explain whatever reasons he had, but I had to understand what was going on for me to be able to help out. “As your wife, I am to ask you if something is bothering you to stand by your side if needed. But what you are saying is that you don’t consider me, as so, or I should not ask.”
“I am taking care of you as your husband, and you as my wife, are to simply do as I tell you. I do not need you to ask me about how I am personally feeling if I choose not to bring you in on it.” He said, making me frown. I had to force myself to take a deep breath and nod, feeling my

walls which I have dropped at the hospital, thinking that I could trust him to create a family with. If anything, I thought that I would be living a different concept now that he knew the struggles that I have been through, but it seemed to me like things were not going to be changing after all.
If anything, I doubted that the man wasn’t still seeing his mistress. And if that was the case, then I didn’t know how I was going to handle this, especially not after everything that we have been going through. My whole life was ruined, and I had no one but this man to consider as family, he knew that very well, but that didn’t mean that I was going to let him take advantage of it. Me not having anyone didn’t mean that I couldn’t just let go and start all over again. I couldn’t just depend on having the man in my life without getting the respect that I had to have as a person. It was something that I couldn’t allow for myself.
“Is there a place where I can shower and change if you don’t mind?” I asked, choosing to drop the subject completely. Nikolay’s eyes widened in surprise at my question, seeing my tone which turned into a monotonous one, one that was I used when I met or spoke to those who were strangers
to me.
“Upstairs, fourth, third door to your left, our bedroom has a bathroom inside it.” He said, and I nodded. Me telling him that I wouldn’t be sharing his bed wouldn’t be a good idea for me, especially now; therefore, I simply walked toward the stairs to go up. My heart raced at how long they were, but I knew that it would be a good exercise for me at this point. I couldn’t stay on bedrest my whole life, and the faster I got used to this, the better. Plus, it wasn’t like I wasn’t used to stairs, our rooms back at the other house were on the third floor. I wasn’t injured at the time but it didn’t make a difference.
“Katerina, there is an elevator.” He said, pointing at the elevator’s door. “I know that going up to the room using the stairs would be hectic for you right now, so please…”
“Thank you.” Was all I said, stopping him from going on with whatever it was he had to elaborate. I knew that our things were brought over earlier today, I just wasn’t sure if the maids unpacked, and if they did, how or

where I would be finding my things. But at this point, I was just happy to be out of the hospital, and out of that house where I knew that everyone’s eyes would be on us.
At least at this point, and with this situation, the two of us would be able to have our privacy as husband and wife. Whether or not our marriage. became real or not, at least, we wouldn’t have anyone on our heads,
waiting to find the mistake on one of us.
“You’re welcome.” He said, watching as I entered the elevator. He walked toward me and pressed the button leading to our floor before taking a step back as he went wherever it was he was going to. “By the way, there are
maids upstairs waiting for you. They would be helping you out with your things…”
