And Then The River Went Dry (Wolf Creed Pack, 1)

Chapter 8

After a week of packing up her life in boxes and doing the last few days at the job she loved so much, Carmeta was ready to begin her new life with her mate in another pack. During her time, however, everyone in the pack was either congratulating her or wondering what witchcraft she did, or even questioning what she offered to the moon goddess for her to bless her so greatly. Her mom even dropped a big bomb about her family lineage being of Mate Seeker blood. It was all too much for her, she just needed a moment of rest.

A Mate Seeker! She should have figured since her mom has always been a psychic when it came to knowing when a wolf would meet their mate. It was a gift that was given to the wolves of a particular bloodline that everyone thought died out during the Dark Era. They were hunted and forced to find the mates of wolves who were desperate in their pursuits. Most were killed if they did not have the sight. But what many failed to understand was that these women only got the sight after they got their mates, and they can't choose who they see. Now she was going to start getting the sight once she completed the mating ritual with her mate and she would have to keep it a secret in order to protect herself and her family.

"Are you done?" Remo said while standing at her doorway.

"Yeah. This is the last of it!" Carmeta said as she smoothed the tape over the last of her boxes then sighed.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

"You know you use to tell me everything when you were little, and you still can."

"That's because you were my big bad bro," Carmeta said when she went to him and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Just because you have a mate now that doesn't mean I'll ever stop protecting you." He said while he patted her on her head.

"I know that."

"Are you two done? Move aside so I can grab her boxes. The faster we pack her up the faster she leaves. Then I can finally get some peace around here" Bear said, too excited about getting rid of his annoying little sister.

"Whatever booger face, I know you will miss me."

"As if" he snorted.

After five minutes of moving stuff from Carmeta's now old bedroom to the moving truck that Alpha Max sent over, she was able to properly say her goodbyes to her family. Her dad, who was always the tough cookie, turned to mush because he felt like he was losing his little princess.

"Make sure you keep up with your training. I know your mate is fairly a badass and his pack is one of the safest places to be but you never know. You should be able to defend yourself if needs be." John lectured as he escorted his daughter to the truck door. "And young man, you make sure you drive safely with her, I don't want to have to..."

"Dad, I'll be fine. And if my mate or anyone dares to give me hell, I'll double it ten folds."

She drove with the truck driver to Stephanie's apartment which was less than a mile away. When she pulled into the parking lot, a few of Max's men pulled in behind her. She figured they were escorts since she was not only mated to one of their own, but she was their Luna. They helped Stephanie to load her many many many boxes into the truck, refusing help from any of them. Max initially wanted his men to meet her at her house so they could help her with moving her boxes and escort her to Stephanie, but she declined. She had her brothers to help her with that and she was only half a mile from Stephanie. He wasn't pleased but he learned quickly not to argue with her. Now she was standing next to a Stephanie who was feverishly making out with her mate and fifteen of Wolf Creed's finest awkwardly trying not to notice their gamma tonguing the life out of his mate.

"I'm sorry about that my Luna" Miles, the Wolf Creed gamma, greeted with a bow, "Alpha Max had a prior engagement that he could not get out of, or he would have personally escorted you home. He sends his apology."

"That's okay," Carmeta said with a smile, but she was disappointed, since the last time she got to see her mate was at the mixer. Nevertheless, she understood, he was alpha after all, and it wasn't like they didn't talk. He called her every night at 8 pm on the dot and they spoke for hours.

"Okay great. Right this way ladies" Miles said, leading the ladies to an armored black SUV with tinted windows. The other enforcers piled into their respective vehicles and two men went into the truck.

They arrived at the Wolf Creed's Pack House a little after lunchtime. Carmeta and Stephanie were told that their boxes would be dealt with so they shouldn't worry. Miles left Stephanie with not only a soul-sucking kiss but his repeated apologies about having to deal with an urgent matter. He left with a promise to see them later and have dinner. They had the pleasure of meeting the housekeeper, but everyone referred to her as the housemother. Her name was Lilith, and she was a beautiful middle-aged firecracker she-wolf all stuffed in a five feet body with silver waist-length hair. She gave them a tour of the common areas in the pack house, with a finished basement of the massive mansion. She then made them a quick lunch of salmon burgers with sweet potato fries, strawberry lemonade, and dandelion tea. Peter, Lilith's mate, and the pack house landscaper introduced himself to the girls after their lunch. He was a massive bear of a man, so it was easy to believe that he was a werebear and not a werewolf.

Throughout the rest of the day, Stephanie and Carmeta insisted on helping Lilith with her preparation of dinner and they were glad they did because they were cooking for some of the enforcers and those who lived in the pack house. During that time, many pack members stopped by to introduce themselves to the Luna and Stephanie, who were in a state of a hot mess, met each with a smile.

"You girls go wash up before dinner time and don't worry about anything else done here," Lilith said as she led the girls to the stairs.

"Are you sure? There is still so much to do." Carmeta said, looking back towards the kitchen.

"Of course, I'm sure child. I've only been doing this for almost 30 years, this is nothing compared to the party preparations. Now go ahead and rest. Dinner will be served at 5 o'clock. Luna, your apartment is on the third floor, the door should be open. Alpha Maximillian will add your fingerprints to the lock. Stephanie, your apartment is on the second floor, the light grey door, same goes for your fingerprints, Gamma Miles will add it to the lock."

She gave them a light push up the stairs and walked away and both girls took the stairs up to their respective apartments. Mile's apartment took up a third of the second floor with Beta Don and Delta Finn taking up the other thirds. It was quite massive considering it was split in three. Max's apartment, on the other hand, was massive and took up all of the third floor with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a massive kitchen, a living and dining room in one, and an office in the loft space. The apartment was beautifully decorated with rich colors of midnight blue, black, pure white, and aged bronze. Everything was masculine with a touch of delicate softness showcased throughout the various art pieces. Carmeta ran her hands across each cedar wood furniture in a rich dark brown finish and smiled. This was her mate's private quarters. She inhaled deeply and took in his tantalizingly rich aroma of sugary plums and sandalwood.

My new home!
