Chapter 33 Bravery

There was a trainer, and another person, who was a member of the sports club.

"I told you. The birds didn't lie." The trainer

er told the man

I only smiled at them.

"Miss Lessard, would you skate for us in the gala? The audience would love to see you. Please."

"Well, I don't think..."

"We have a few minutes in the show that you could use. Actually, we left free space for you, as we heard you might come here today. We have a hidden room where you could warm up. Just look around. You could inspire how many beginners?

I found that weird, how they knew I might come, but at that moment I didn't pay attention to that too much. He was right. I was the same when I was a beginner. The famous figure skaters and ice dancers inspired me too,

I thought I didn't need to worry too much as 1 trained this morning, and I've got my skates in here too.

My only problem was the Sullivans. They would go mad if I did that, and probably Gideon would punish me in the worst way, but why would I refuse? That would be the perfect opportunity to let the audience know I was here, so that would be another chance for me to escape. Gideon wouldn't stop the show, and what I would get for it, I would get that later, so I didn't need to think about that yet. These thoughts just made me more positive about it.

As I looked toward them, and I could see Gemma leaning closer to him, and she put her palms on his tights. I wanted to show them. I wanted to prove that they couldn't defeat me, even if they wanted to kill me. And I wanted to show him I was more valuable than Gemma

I looked at the trainers.

"I haven't got a dress and I have no makeup. I only got my skates with me and I just came from training. A short warm up would do." They smiled.

"We are just about to start a gala, Alice, We can provide that for you. One of my colleagues has the same size as yours and she is happy to pop back home for a dress for you. You still got a half an hour till the gala starts. You can was up, and our coach can help you get ready."

I smiled at them, and I don't know how I got the courage.

"Okay, I'm going to perform."

They were thrilled. I finally agreed. I only hoped Mr. Sullivan would hold Gideon and Gemma there.

They asked me to follow them, and I did. The feeling of performing put me back in time. It made me get back to myself. I felt happy and excited. My program was unique and had never been performed before. They took me before I could do it. In that program, I tried things that only a few figure skaters could do.

I practised them today, and I did them perfectly, so I thought I would give them a go. I thought what I was going to show them today would make them realise who I really was. They could take everything from me, they could take my life, but there was something that they could never take from me. That was my strength, my talent, my effort, and my braveness. His colleague got three dresses for me. I chose a black dress that covered a little. The skirt looked revealing, but it wasn't actually showing skin. I chose it for technical reasons, not to annoy Gideon, even though I was so angry with him.

One member came to me to help me do my hair while I put some makeup on. As I looked at the mirror, somehow I saw the old self of mine. I smiled at

Soon that was a time for me to go on the ice. When I put my skates on, that reminded me of Gideon again. He didn't have Gemma with him, so he was nice to me. The trainer went on the ice with a microphone, and he started his speech.

First, he welcomed everyone, and he said he hoped that the new members were going to have a long and successful journey in the club. He talked about the Olympic athletes their coaches brought to the games and how they achieved success. This was to inspire new members to trust in their coaches and to believe they could also succeed with their help. I thought the Sullivans found the best place to train Ava.

His speech was quite long. He discussed the brief Gala they hosted to inspire new members to pursue their goals and provide them with examples of

success.

A few performances followed his speech, then he skated back to the middle and finally, he got to where my heart started pounding faster. He talked about me, without telling my name. He talked about my achievements, and he talked about my results. He said they were lucky enough to have me hear, and finally I could hear those words that warmed my heart up.
