An Alpha's Charge

Chapter 14

Pack Members

Steven was in his office after the training he put his warriors through. He invited Lane to hang out with him, but Ramiel wanted to be with his mate. Steven knew it was getting time for Lane to shift but did not know how well she would handle it. He and Steven agreed they would be there for her when she turned for the first time since she was a year old.

Lane helped her brother look up information on their old pack. They only could investigate the people they met along the way in their lives. They found that the people they met in Seattle were in their group, and Ruth and John were in their pack. It helped when pictures provided proof of who was in the pack.

She felt a warmth come over her that she had been with her pack family her whole life and did not even know it. She wanted to contact them and have them live with her and Steven. Steven helped Lane to reach out to those people, and they agreed to visit him and Lane.

Ramiel was extremely happy to have his mate’s family stay and become pack members. He loved his family but knew it was important for his mate and brother-in-law to have them around.

“Steven, how many are coming to visit, and when?” Rami asked.

“They will come Sunday next week, and seventy-five of them are coming.”

“Call everyone into the meeting area; we are going to have to have more homes to build for these people. I will announce in one hour.”

Lane got ready for the meeting, and she dressed nicely. She got word that her attorney would visit and have her sign some papers about her business. She did not want to leave a wrong impression on her family, her attorney, and anyone else that was coming.

“Thank you all for joining me for this impromptu meeting. We have several people visiting us, and we will need to build some homes or ask if any of you would open your homes to these families.

“The family coming is from the same pack that Lane and Steven had lived. Their mother and father were alphas, and their names were Lily and Everest, Alexander. They had lost their home to a forest fire and thought the entire pack family had died. That is not the case. We would greatly appreciate this if we could open our homes to their family. We also need to start building homes for the future, as some may want to stay and join our pack.”

“Alpha Ramiel, my wife and I have four extra bedrooms and can house a couple of small families.” One member stated.

Everyone else followed suit, volunteering their homes and building new ones for potential family members. They were all excited to have visitors come. Ramiel was happy to have his pack open their homes.

“Lane, someone is here to see you; he is waiting in my office. Come with me and help me out with pack business transactions.” Ramiel said.

“OK, I know my attorney from Texas is coming, but he did not say when he would be here. Other than that, I do not know who else would be visiting.”

They entered the office, and she saw two people she thought she would never see again. She was shocked, surprised, confused, terrified, and had mixed emotions.

“Ruth, John, I... I thought you were dead; I do not understand. I identified your bodies. We had a memorial for you all.”

“Those were two of the robbers, and two more came with them. We took those two out, grabbed our things and money from the registers, and ran out the back.”

“But they looked just like you guys.”

“No, sweet daughter, they were not us.”

‘Steven, these people are supposed to be dead; what does Ryker say?’ Ramiel asked through the mind link.

‘They are lying; two of them survived the fight, I have proof. We must get them out of here and sedate their wolves now.’

Two warriors snuck in and overpowered the visitors when Lane’s attorney walked in. He took a deep breath, and his bear stood on the edge, knowing these two people were up to no good. Lane’s bear came forward, too, knowing these people were unsafe and we were here to harm her.

“What do you want from me?” her bear mingled her voice with Lane’s.

“We want you, Lane; you took our people down and killed them. We are getting our revenge.” the female said.

The warrior guards injected them with silver and wolfsbane to help subdue them. Then put the silver cuffs around their wrists and ankles and hauled them off to the dungeons, where they would be interrogated by Zizu and Duke (Steven). Ellis and Atticus walked with the guards in case the perps started something.

“Awe, look, Alecia is here to join the party. Goody, so you can tell us why you have not killed that bitch.”

“Shut up; I was supposed to have been dead, but Wade and a couple of his vampire friends turned me, so here I am, all vamped up.” Alecia snarled with a slight grin.

That was the last straw; eventually, they were all killed, and their bodies burned. They knew what had happened; they were the ones who started the forest fire that killed Lane’s parents. But not everyone was taken by the fire; quite a few members survived, and only a few had scars their animals could not heal.

Lane’s attorney brought her the papers she needed to sign, but the amount given on the documents for the sale of both companies was less than three hundred thousand dollars. She was shocked as she had never agreed to this amount.

Steven and Rami also looked over the papers, scoffing at the price. Lane rolled her eyes, pushing the paper and pen back to the attorney. Steven and Ramiel smirked at her actions. Ramiel’s heart swelled with pride because he knew what she was about to do even though they did not share a link yet.

“What the fucking hell do you take me for, Scott? This is unacceptable for both businesses. The combined worth is thirty-five million dollars. I will take NOTHING less than that.” Lane snarled at her attorney.

She looked away momentarily, taking a breath before speaking again. She had to calm her nerves and anger.

“You know what? I will do this independently; what else have you screwed my family and me out of what? No, you know what? I will keep both of my businesses and bring them here to Alaska and keep those open there as a satellite office, and the main offices will be here.”

“Scott, you are fired; let me see those papers. I want the number of the assholes who think they can pull this crap with me. Who are they?”

“They are the ones who killed your parents.”

“Oh, Rami love, do you have pictures of those jackasses we used to have here? You know the three that we killed?”

“Yes, love, just one second; let me get my laptop.”

Scott was swallowing loudly at her words. Rami returned with his laptop opening it up and looking for the video of their visitors.

While doing that, Lane took back all the papers he had brought, ripped them up into small pieces, and pushed them back toward Scott.

“Here are the videos of our unwanted guests. Are the ones you are talking about, Scott?”

“Yes, yes they are, all three of them,” he responded with a shaky voice.

“Good, watch what happens next... I will wait for a response from you.”

Scott’s eyes shot open as he watched the guests get slaughtered, and he started to show sweat on his brow. He knew he was in uncharted territory and knew he was following. He, too, was a shifter, rogue to be exact, and this was his people they killed, and he knew he was following.

“Well, it appears that the cat has the wolf’s tongue. Who else is working for you, Scott? You know what? We know you are a rogue, Duke. I have a task for you and Lane, take some guards with you, go to Texas, where her offices are, and pack their shit up. Ship it up here and care for any rogues, no matter their species.”

“On it, the boss; Lane, let’s pack our bags and get your business up here.”

He walked his sister to her house but noticed the door cracked open. He put his finger to his lips and called for Atticus to meet him at her home now. Someone was inside, and he did not want to enter without his backup, nor did he want to put Lane at risk.

Scott was in the dungeon; Rami took off from his office, approaching Lane and Steven. He walked up the steps with everyone behind him. Another rogue was destroying her belongings inside, and she was pissed. She walked around the men putting her hands on her hips, growling. She pushed her alpha aura onto the intruder when he turned and looked at her.

“WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE IN MY HOME AND DESTROYING EVERYTHING I HAVE!” she yelled at the top of her lungs.

The man could not move as she pushed that much aura out of her. The intruder fell to his knees, putting his hands up to his ears as they started to bleed. He started yelling at her to pull it back, but she did not hear him. Ramiel took hold of her once he got up off his knees. To his surprise, it affected him, but Steven was not.

He smirked knowingly; his queen and her brother were exceptional. Steven walked by her holding her hand, and she pulled the aura back a bit so the men could arrest the intruder. Atticus and a couple of guards smirked when they swept her home for bugs. Once Lane and her brother leave for Texas, they would do a more thorough sweep.

“Rami, what am I? Are we? Steven, you were not affected; why? I did not know I had that in me.”

She broke down, thinking she had done something terrible. Steven, Ramiel, and the guards all smiled at what she had done.

“Love, you both are of alpha blood, polar bears, to be exact. But you both have something that none of us have, which was given to you by our goddess. I cannot wait till you shift, Lane.”

“Speaking of shifting, tonight is the full moon; we can’t leave till after she shifts into her bear,” Steven noted.

Ramiel nodded in agreement but helped Lane pack her bag and put her home back in order. The three of them walked into the bathroom and ran the water, letting her know what would happen and that when she returned from Texas, she would be living with him where he could keep an eye on her.

Later that evening, they took her to the woods in an opening where the moon could be visible in all its glory. They like new shifters to be in the whole light of the moon for its powers and to feel closer to their goddess.

She stripped down her bra and underwear, and her brother and mate talked her through the painful shift. Snow promised it would be over quickly if she let her control the change.

“Let your bear take control; let her come forward in your mind, and she will do the rest,” Remi said in a soothing voice.

“Is this going to hurt?”

“Your first time, it will take longer, and it will hurt, but the more you shift, the less painful it becomes,” Steven told her.

“Just let me move forward, and you will move back. I will do the rest, just like I said before.” Snow reminded Lane.

Lane shut her eyes and let Snow take control; she could feel her bones moving and reforming. She was crying and whimpering during the shift as the pain in her back, legs, then head all rearranged into Snow. It took about twenty minutes to make the shift, and the men were stunned at her beauty. She was white as Snow, with no yellow tints, grey, or brown coloring. Snow had clear blue eyes.

Lane looked through her eyes, stared down at her paws, and tried to stand up. She stumbled a little bit, then fell back down. Lane stood on all fours looking around from side to side, seeing she was pure white with no other colors. The others were laughing at her, and she growled at them for laughing.

Ramie and Steven had shifted into their bears, and they were happy. Snow was excited to see Rami and his bear. He was grizzly but had white patches in his coat. They sniffed and nuzzled each other, making sure they scented each other. The other pack members joined shifting and were happy to see they had a beautiful Luna Bear.
